Sean Dyche Way
Sean Dyche Way
I was pleased to see the signs, on either side of the Canal Bridge, as I drove along the road, formerly known as Yorkshire Street!
Well done. A fitting tribute.

Hummmm maybe .
Re: Sean Dyche Way
Let's face it, John Bond Passage would be an improvement on anything with the word Yorkshire in it.

Definitely there on Sunday.
Re: Sean Dyche Way
I have every confidence that Afrasiab Anwar, as Leader of Burnley Borough Council is looking at a street naming in recognition of almost a decade of tremendous achievement.
Re: Sean Dyche Way
It would be very apt, near his very own pub!
Re: Sean Dyche Way
Perhaps it should be The Sean Dyche Way!

Is this official? My understanding is that the process of renaming roads and streets takes some time.

It does and I think there is a rule about naming a street after a living person. Gary Glitter St etc!Sean Dyche's Watch wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 12:30 pmIs this official? My understanding is that the process of renaming roads and streets takes some time.
Re: Sean Dyche Way
Street naming is the responsibility of the Local authority, Burnley Borough Council but Lancashire County Council would also have involvement as highway authority.
A proposal would be debated by the Councillors through a formal adoption process, and yes this would take several months.

If it was official, surely there would have been something in the local press
Most likely it's just some fan sticking a street sign up

Re: Sean Dyche Way
Ive been led to believe the road name change was a big part of the contract settlement and why there was a period of radio silence between all parties after Dyche got the boot. It looks like Mr Pace has got the council to push it through and so the new street name is now official.
Its not showing on google maps yet but it is now showing on MapQuest though I think Mr Pace's brother in law is a CEO at that company so that might have something to do with it.

Re: Sean Dyche Way
I believe that all those who live and/or have businesses on Yorkshire Street have be consulted, and agree, prior to a name change.
Harry Potts' Way was straightforward as Burnley Football Club is the only postal address on that section of Brunshaw Road.

Re: Sean Dyche Way
Just to be clear....
The signs are placed by a fan(s). They are not an authorised change of name.
That is indeed a process of consultation, following a representation.
I suspect you do have to be dead as well, although not certain. It is advisable, just in case.
My wife has a road named after her. She was made aware of the proposal, just before she died, so she was happy about the recognition. Most never know.

Re: Sean Dyche Way
I think there has to be agreement from everyone who has property on the street/road. It was easy with Harry Potts Way because there was only the football club and the bookies but that took some months.Billyblah wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 1:37 pmStreet naming is the responsibility of the Local authority, Burnley Borough Council but Lancashire County Council would also have involvement as highway authority.

Re: Sean Dyche Way
I think I read it could cost the council over a million quid to change a main street name when the council were looking at changing one for Jimmy Anderson.
I could have made that figure up though. But it's a lot of hassle and costly.

My Dad has a street named after him in Barrowford, and it was done long before he passed away. Perhaps they got away with it by removing the space between his first name and surname?IanMcL wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 8:43 pmJust to be clear....

Re: Sean Dyche Way
I don't think there has to be an agreement, although you do need to at least give the impression of a consultation. There's a controversial street renaming going on near me where 70% of residents were opposed to it.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 11:06 pmI think there has to be agreement from everyone who has property on the street/road. I think costs were estimated at a few hundred thousand pound.

Surely we name one after James Anderson before Sean Dyche.

There is a street in Todmorden which bears my name - Christian and surname with a space in between - and my dad took me to see it many, many years ago. It's my nearest, (only), claim to fame.

Re: Sean Dyche Way
There’s Alan Shearer Way in Blackburn near Ewood Park There’s also a housing estate nearby where the streets allude to the 1995 squad.
For me, Sean Dyche Way is a nice way of showing gratitude from the fans for a few weeks unofficially, but he could be manager of Blackburn Rovers next season, or he might replace Eddie Howe at Newcastle and relegate us in a few weeks time. Football is a funny game.
I’d give it a few years first before naming streets and so on.
