Brownhill

According to 90mins, I have no idea how reliable they are, West Ham are interested in our Josh.

Lazy journalism. It’s always West Ham, Leicester or Everton in the rumours. I’m half expecting Claret Tony to get linked with a move to one of them soon.

I am sure I saw his name linked with Stoke.

So who did we buy him from? Perhaps equally important, how much did CT cost us?

I don't believe you, several alleged experts on here have stated no one will want to buy him from us and no other PL club was interested in him when we signed him and he's barely championship quality.

I think I covered everything there...

Hopefully it’s a bad rumour but heard he is struggling for fitness today and that Vydra is out for the season. Hope it’s a load of rubbish.

Haha if you believe sources like this for transfers then it explains a lot.

No chance he goes to West Ham. Absolutely zero

Being linked with Everton too. As someone said, probably lazy journalism at this point. But more realistic than the bellend on here who repeatedly said he's low Championship/League One standard.

Got to love the name calling. Mods really need to get on top of this.

But I love Burnley fans, our whole midfield has had one of the worst seasons they have had and people honestly believe they will end up at bigger clubs.

But under Dyche they were barely allowed to cross the halfway line. If Brownhill gets a bit of freedom to get forward I think he'll end up being a steady Premier League midfielder. Not sure he's good enough on the ball to move to a bigger club though.

I did - you are absolutely right. And I will acknowledge I got it wrong if we stay up, which is looking likely. You were one of the ones that perpetually slagged Dyche off. But neither of us insensitly did so in the way one poster targeted Brownhill.

Nice lad, works his arse off, does have some ability, he's a weird one though.

He likes to go forward but his end product isn't good, he gives the ball away and gets caught high up the pitch far too much. You cannot afford to keep giving the ball away up the pitch and leave your team wide exposed for an easy counter attack when you're playing in a 442 especially at this level, at Watford he kept giving Watford 3v3 counter attacks, we were fortunate it was Watford and not a better side.

He shows nice confident turns and runs with the ball sometimes, 2 minutes later he's misplacing a 7 yard pass.

You can excuse him giving the ball away sometimes up the pitch if he's got defensive midfielders holding for him and if his end product was good. neither are true

I'm not sure he's a PL level midfielder, certainly not in a 442, I think he'd potentially be better used in a narrow LM role, so we aren't constantly defending 4v3 3v3 on counter attacks. It's a serious issue of his.

Yesterday's 3rd goal was an example of that, Cork and Brownhill holding hands up the pitch, Brownhill loses the ball, Cork falls over, 3 passes later it's in our net. Tarkowski was screaming at Brownhill at Watford for giving it away non stop.

Interesting shout and as he's one of the few who's likely to still be here he could be a contender.

Personally if Mee does go I'd install Collins as skipper.

Regarding Josh he's certainly looked much better in recent months, and chipped in with goals and assists, but he does need to stop needlessly giving the ball away, it cost us yesterday, and it could well cost us in future.

Brownhill always puts a shift in but I just don’t think he’s a starting calibre premier league midfielder.

Seems a great lad but to me screams championship.

In no man’s land ball watching leaving Buendía the freedom of the penalty box for the second goal. Mind you they were all at sea for that one.

I noticed that but I’d say more Dwights mistake for losing Digne. Can over analyse these things though. Another day the cross or shot gets blocked and it’s a moment of the game everyone forgets.

Our midfield was pulled all over, yesterday. I’m a big Cork fan and have seen some good improvement in Brownhill but we really need some more quality in the middle of the park.

Brownhill is one of those players who will look better and be far more effective in a team with other technical players who can take the ball and hold it and do the more creative stuff. The better the quality around him the better he'll look. That's why he's looked better alongside Cork who keeps the ball better, but even more so when he's had McNeil offering a playmaker and Jay playing alongside Weghorst - and Cornet also playing off one flank. When he does there's less pressure on his passing and he can play to his strengths - namely being a supreme athlete (he's very, very quick and fit) and being a good simple passer. Those qualities and plenty of football intelligence mean that if others do the crafty stuff he can stretch teams with good third man runs, and link stuff together. My guess is that in a league where pace and dynamism are hugely appreciated, thats what any clubs interested in him will look for.

Unfortunately yesterday with Lennon and Barnes in the technical quality was diminished (first goal starts with Barnes hooking it hopefully into an area) and as a result he's no longer got the players around him to allow him to play to his strengths. That said, his stats were pretty good and he was far from our worst player on the day, and I don’t think he was particularly to blame for any of the goals.

I’ve not seen it back so only based on seeing it live; I thought both Cork and Brownhill were poor for their third.

If someone wants to buy him for £15m, it's a no brainier, sell him! He can't play a simple pass at times and last week at Watford he was caught in possession 3 or 4 times, Tarky was going mental at him.
First thing Wacko Jacko did was to correctly bench him at West Ham, if Westwood hadn't have got injured, we'd have seen very little of him in the last 5 games.

Spot on that, to play in a midfield two the one thing you can’t do on a regular basis is give the ball straight to the opposition. He does it far too often for this level to be successful. If he cuts out the mistakes then maybe he has a chance to kick on.

Think we need a stronger player in there really, looks lightweight to me. Scored a good goal at Watford but it’s a luxury we can’t afford with Maxwell in the side who has goals in his game. We need two brick **** houses in midfield who don’t give the ball away at all and give it to the flair players consistently.
