Not surprised tbh as he plays for England at his age level and is a real prospect. And he MIGHT suspect his path at Burnley is somewhat blocked. I really hope he stays with us. Especially if we go down as he COULD he integral to our revival.

Sadly he's injured again, pity as he would surely have made the bench today, and could well have got on 2nd half.

Definitely one of the youngsters who can come to the fore if we go down.

I'd be surprised if he thought that. Probably would have seen a bit of him this season (cup games etc) if it weren't for his injuries. For Dyche to put him on the bench at his age suggested that even he recognised his potential (given how generally loathe he was to play younger players)

He's injured isn't he? and if he isn't I agree it's bizarre he couldn't make the bench with our lack of striking options.

He's battled injuries for one or maybe two years now, but still he's a real prospect and someone who we should definitely be looking to keep hold of, especially if we're going to be relegated.

Came back from injury and played in a couple of u23 games in early March but has since disappeared again so I’m assuming he’s injured.

Shame. Looked like he had something and could give us a different option.

Thompson is another one. Sure he came at Spurs away a couple of seasons ago and again looked like he had something. Again, think he's had injuries but think he's back and scoring for u23's. Not saying he can come in and make a difference, but at some point they have to have a chance, especially with injuries.

Richardson came on at Spurs last season for his debut. Thompson’s only appearance was at Man City when he came on in stoppage time two seasons ago. He’s had a long spell out injured this season too.

Ah, got them mixed up. You would've thought that without the injuries that Richardson definitely, and Thompson possibly would've been involved this season.

Hopefully they can stay fit and be involved next season.

I honestly think we’d be best not discussing the U23 squads and below. We all love to hear about the next generation of clarets and we’re rightly proud and excited. Sadly a few seem to not be able to control themselves and ruin it.

I’d be surprised if he was looking to move because he was in GOOD money a few years ago with us (and the travel expenses his parents got were handsome too if what I was told is true…. And there is zero reason for it not to be).

Huge prospect and definitely one that has been very looked after by the club and sponsors…… sure he had a boot deal at age 15/16 with a decent brand too.

I understand what you are saying but theses are u23’s not u 18s You have McNiel and Collins in the first team at that age and that’s how we want it. We should be happily able to discuss the talent coming through our ranks. Agree on the fact that we should be able to do it without snide damning comments though.

These constant injuries to our senior and youth players is a worry
We need a serious look at our conditioning and fitness regimes and overhaul them
Injuries to Ben,JBG, Ash Barnes, Jay , Maxwell ,Vyds,Erik,Tarks and Charlie as well U23 and youth players have seriously impacted on our results this season

Agree. Not sure what the PL injury table is but I’d guess we are near the top. Leeds too… it was interesting to hear Jesse Marsch call out Bielsa’s training methods as a reason they had so many injuries this season, saying it was way too intense.

Perhaps with us, the older average age of the squad is a major contributing factor? It is known that older players generally tend to pick up more niggles.

Totally agree, that’s not relevant at all and it’s private between the club/player.

I have one son in an academy in the North West. He feels pressure from other parents, shouting, and ‘coaching’ their kids. Parents trying to debrief kids as soon as they pick them up, telling them what they’ve done wrong, even when they’ve not watched the games/training!

The other one plays for his local village side, and it is even worse!

I was on the train last year, and saw two academy boys at Burnley getting harassed by Preston fans as they travelled down, just for wearing their kit. Telling them they weren’t going to make it and that they hoped they got injured.

Youth football is a difficult environment for the coaches, kids, and parents to navigate successfully so hats off to those who do it as their job!

I am all for discussing talent, but don’t for a second think that players and youth players aren’t aware of media and what the fans are saying/thinking. This message board is well known to players throughout the club!

Totally agree about the snide remarks. We should hold ourselves to higher standards.

I think we’ve built a clear pathway to the first team. The higher the league we’re in, the bar is pushed upwards and so the bottleneck becomes a little narrower to hit that threshold to make the first team. The impact of relegation become greater and that impacts the ability of managers to blood youngsters.

We had to challenge the bigger academies with recruitment, we’ve done that. We now have a viable ‘offer’ for talented players that can compete with Manchester/Liverpool/Blackburn. Give it time.

Lewis has travelled to Burnley from south Manchester since he was 8…. I know in many of those early years there were zero expenses for parents. There wasn’t even a free tea or coffee, they had to buy it from a clapped out vending machine in a portakabin, and it regularly didn’t dispense properly….. we had to give them back the 50p out of our own pockets.

We should be giving him, and our other prospects every opportunity to flourish here.
All of the big clubs do it.
The difference is, the big clubs probably don't employ terribly unprofessional people, who divulge important information to messageboard clowns who want to tell everyone about it.
A bit like the starting line up threads where posters give up our starting line up to the opposition a few hours before kick off.
Hopefully we get a grip on this eventually and sack the blabber mouths

Because a lot of parents and players would see Spurs as a great move if they offer a few quid etc ……. With him being looked after very well here already then he wouldn’t be enticed away by that sort of thing.

Time to start blooding him now that relegation is looking more likely than not, in my opinion. Vydra leaving, Cornet leaving, McNeil leaving (possibly Barnes too, Weghorst if we can find some German side to take him maybe also) means we can only really guarantee Rodriguez is here next season - we should be giving him game time now from the bench or even from the start once it’s mathematical.

I’ve only seen him once live (Oldham friendly before this season) and he looked a very lively, exciting player. A shame injuries have held him back but if he’s fit, get him involved. I’d far rather see him coming off the bench than having no option to change a game which is roughly where we are at now due to injuries.

Who would he play with now you’ve moved on our forward line? Playing with Jay and Wout will be improving his game. Watching Vydra’s movement will be improving his game. Playing in a system that is supportive of his skill set will improve his game.

Players need other players to partner and compliment their skill set. Lewis isn’t a lead the line kind of player.

I was saying the same on the Villa game. 3-0 down the game has gone. Get Costelloe on for 10 minutes and give him a taste of it.

My understanding is that the spurs offer is old news. Went to have a look but wanted to stay at Burnley. Has trained with first team and done well.

Difficult to play him in a relegation battle.

According to the latest odds, it's 10/11 Leeds, Evens Burnley - basically, as the table suggests now, a toss of the coin between the 2, but rather than take a 50/50, you're for blooding the youngsters and preparing for relegation. The Jedi swingometer in full flow this week

Seems pretty unlikely anything will be sorted either way before the last day, doesn't it?

Anyway, I'm as keen as anyone to see another young lad in the team - especially if it's a striker who can run - but now is certainly not the time for it. Especially if he's injured.

I find it really incredible that “fans” take pleasure in undermining every aspect of the players/club at a time when we need to be all standing together, they just cannot resist a cheap swipe. It display’s nothing but their own ignorance, which sadly some seem to glorify in making public.

May the young lad mature and flourish, in the Claret and Blue of the Mighty Clarets.

We will need a song, hopefully!

I've given a lot of thought to that chant, IanMcL..... and I came up with

Lewis Lewis Richardson
Richardson Richardson
Lewis Lewis Richardson
Lewis Richardson

That'll just about allow the Cricketfield stand to come on board

It was hardly the best result in the world on Saturday , and I suspect that your appraisal that we are likely to go down is heavily influenced by us having to play 2 old players and Tarks injury.

I can't think of any other reason because we achieved 10 points from the previous 4 games, 2 of which were away.

Leeds are in a mess with so many injuries and suspensions.

If we can find a way to get Cornet, Rodrigues and either Mee or Tarkowski in the starting 11 surely we have a better chance than them of staying up. Those 3/4 Burnley players I mentioned have not been ruled out for the season as far as I know.
