Not offer him another contract ? I would have him here until the end of time, he is an inspiration in housery and however we expect to brush on the finer details he will always be able to teach

Barnes has been a fantastic servant for us over a long period, however now is the right time for him to move on and get regular footy.

Mind you if both Barnes and Vydra leave that'll mean we'll need at least 1 new striker this summer, as Weghorst is still unproven at this level, Cornet is injury prone and inconsistent, and Jay isn't getting any younger these days.

Be fitting for Ash to finish his Burnley career on a high with the winner against the Toon, but he might already have scored the goal which will keep us in the PL for another season with his pen at Villa.

It will be a very sad day when the time comes for Basher to leave the club, however he is 33 in October and has been injury prone for the last two seasons so it looks like it will be a parting of the ways in July.

if they go up, a stint at Wycombe might not be a bad move for him.

Or back to Bristol, he'd do a job at either club.

If he's "one of our own" why did he **** off and leave us at the first opportunity instead of fighting for us?
Really?

If BFC release Barnes, then they are mad as hatters.
Similarly with most of the squad. Very few players wish to sign for Burnley and tge ones we have are a very healthy unit with super work ethic. Look around at the other teams and they are riddled with fair weather footballers.

A rebuild should be a slow process, or all these years are lost in one season.

Can’t believe fans are suggested he stays, he wants to play every week and there’s absolutely no way he should be starting every week at this level if we are looking to improve next season.
Sentiment needs to go out of the window

My favourite player at the club and after Leighton James my second favourite of all time.
Life at Burnley won’t be the same if he leaves the club.
My friend Pasty is convinced he is on his way to Plymouth.
Let’s see.

A cult hero is Ashley Barnes. Defenders and opposing fans detest him. He is absolutely horrible to play against. I think he has been wonderful for us, a good goal scorer and a very crafty fox.

Hoping for one last massive performance on Sunday, and like Elizabeth says; KEEP YOUR HANDS DOWN!!

Will wish him all the best for the future.

He gets in my team tomorrow as you know he’s going to give that ‘extra’ bit required and will be proper up for the challenge.

I think this year we have seen an Ashley who has not been at the top of his fitness so the performances were disjointed. Saw the last two games and he was almost back to the old Barnes. Personally I think its time for him to now move, but he has been a great servant.

We've been one of the worst teams in the league over the last 2 seasons, yet some fans want to keep virtually all the out of contract players?
How do they suggest we try and progress and move forward exactly? If Jay Rod is staying Barnes simply has to be moved on. There isn't room for both of them.

Probably a change of manager will revitalise the players/squad, I think we`re getting a glimpse of what they can produce if allowed at the moment, does the squad need improving/strengthening, yes, do we need to lower the average age, yes but has as already been said gradual change with the right players keeps the ethos of the squad and basically we have a good ethos.

He's been a great servant

And scored some great goals (none better than the one at White Hart Lane many years back)

But times need to move on

We have an old squad that has not helped this season

Changes need to happen and keeping Ash (and others) for another season is not looking to the future whatever league we are in
