Who gave Dyche the contract ?Walkerpool wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 8:14 pmGiving Dyche a new contract was a big mistake but on the positive side we have needed a reset for a few years now and I for one believe Alan PACE will sort things out.

The players too. After he put the penalty away Wso came over and waved bye bye.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 8:18 pmOne thing I’ll say about today, the enjoyment the geordies took in relegating us will live with me forever, absolutely no need at the end from a large number of their supporters, I know I’d not do that when I can see a set of fans hurting, when’s there’s no rivalry between us

Remember who funds them now, and how happy they all are about that as wellBabylonClaret wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 8:27 pmThe players too. After he put the penalty away Wso came over and waved bye bye.

Remember and add them to the list of clubs with fanbases that tolerate money and don't care where it is from

I was positive I saw Trippier telling off Wilson after his penalty to which Wilson just snarkily looked back at Trips

Weirdly if we'd held out at home against Leeds we'd have stayed up too. We would have both been on 36.
Fine margins indeed

Really? We have gone backwards on every front since ge took over. Financially, league position, academy. I have no faith in the bloke.Walkerpool wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 8:14 pmGiving Dyche a new contract was a big mistake but on the positive side we have needed a reset for a few years now and I for one believe Alan PACE will sort things out.

I'm 62, can't remember how many relegations I've been through and I'm hurting.

My sentiments tooPearcey wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 7:42 pmGot what we deserved. It was an absolutely dreadful season and I’m glad it’s over. The club feels miles away from the one I’ve known since I first watched them in the 80’s. I’m sick of feeling miserable about something that should being giving me joy.
I’ll look forward to a season with no VAR, big club bias and a load of defeats.

Re: Relegation.
Before the season even started , most posters on this board stated we needed a creative central midfielder . Unfortunately the " board " that counts , did nothing about this problem . With a choice of Westwood , Brownhill , Cork or Stephens , you aren't going to compete against most teams in the prem .

I think it was probably because things had gone bit stale under SD more than anything else.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 8:05 pmLack of investment over the past 3 years has cost us. Even one decent signing per window who could have gone into the first team could have made the different. Instead we’ve watched an ageing and injury prone squad with nothing been spent while we waited for a takeover to go through.
Everton didnt have a problem with lack of investment but mismanagement has caused them enormous issues.

Re: Relegation.
Callum Wilson was really annoying today. Never jumped for a high ball, just complained he had been fouled. He seemed to take extra delight in scoring and sending us done, always thought he was a decent sort before today.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 8:18 pmOne thing I’ll say about today, the enjoyment the geordies took in relegating us will live with me forever, absolutely no need at the end from a large number of their supporters, I know I’d not do that when I can see a set of fans hurting, when’s there’s no rivalry between us
Re: Relegation.
Empty seats at most home games hasn't helped, we all get the tv money but the vast majority of other clubs get thousands and thousands more on then us which just better players, it was inevitable.

Re: Relegation.
I wouldn't say it's exactly lack of investment more like lack of refreshment.
For me it went stale / wrong with Hendrick. We should have sold him for a fee and refreshed. He was never going to stay. The same happened with a number of players at that time.
We should have let them go one by one and refreshed.
Dyche got stuck in his safety zone.

Re: Relegation.
Ultimately this is the answer.
Regardless of what some wild optimists thought it was always going to be when, not if, we went down.
We still paid some of the lowest wages in the league, at some point we were going to stop outperforming that.
Re: Relegation.
The total sum lost by the amount of empty seats this season probably equates to 1 month salary for 1 player - drop in the ocean

Just face it! we was no good enough
Even today not a shot in goal the first half
Do you think we deserved to stay up ?????

Re: Relegation.
If that were true we wouldn't have lasted for four more seasons including a top ten finish.

Re: Relegation.
that's a short sighted view though, everyone could see an ageing squad and it needed refreshing or the inevitable would happen - and it did
edit: Anyway, after the new manager has been announced and the new players arrive I expect a Spijed prediction for next season !

Re: Relegation.
The warning signs were clearly flashing last season when we were one of the 3 lowest scoring teams but managed to stay up unlike the other two. This season it is the 3 lowest scoring teams that drop into the Championship and a lack of goals, especially from midfield, has finally caught up with us and found us wanting.

Re: Relegation.
There was a real opportunity to see the writing on the wall after last season and head off the inevitable during last summer's transfer window and we let it slip by. Whether that was Dyche's fault or down to Pace and ALK I don't know, but whatever happened or didn't happen under the last couple of "Garlick years" wouldn't have mattered had we recruited better last summer. Collins was a good buy (despite yesterday!) and Roberts is more than OK, but it was never going to be enough.
