Totally hypothetical...would you have Dyche back?

Post by Spiral » Sun May 22, 2022 9:08 pm

You're the chairman of BFC. You've just been relegated from the prem. Your gamble in sacking Dyche has ultimately failed. You're in need of a total squad rebuild. Parachute payments are going to be wiped out by debt repayments. You're looking around at managers with experience, with success in the championship. Sean Dyche is just sitting in the pub doing nowt. Ignore for a second the fact he has every right to tell us where to shove it...if you were the chairman, would you grovel to him, give him veto power over transfers and try to tempt him back?

Just to pre-empt a few replies, even though this is all hypothetical, I don't find "move on" to be a particularly convincing argument against it.

Depends totally on what the players who will still be here next year would say. Barring a problem with them, yes.

Sacking Dyche wasn’t the gamble that didn’t work, keeping him as long as we did was the gamble that didn’t work

No thanks. Some great years and I fully supported him until the end but I just couldn’t bare the football towards the end.

No I don't think so. He's done his time with us
and will be remembered as one of our best managers.

It will be interesting to see where her goes next and how
well he does with a new team/club.

As much I think we shouldn't have potted him I really don't think going back is a good thing to do. Sometimes it works but often it doesn't. We've made our bed now so we need to make sure our new appointment is a good one.

Still think the timing was strange and the only occasions when I thought he could have gone were after the defeats at Leeds and Brentford. I thought he did a wonderful job for us but his time was at an end and we need to move on from him.

This is where I'm at. It's the scale of the exodus that got me thinking this. He wasn't getting a tune out of these players by the end, no doubt, and ultimately that's on the manager. But so many of those players will be leaving. And maybe when all is said and done we just had too many $hit players at once; our ability to compete in the market at PL level inevitably exhausted. With fresh faces everywhere, in a league where we're theoretically far more competitive in the transfer market? It won't happen, but I'd have him back.

Absolutely not, He’d extend the contacts of Lennon, Barnes, Long et al. We need not revolution now not creaky knees evolution. The dinosaur is long gone. Let it be,

Sadly, no. Though it wouldn’t at all surprise me to see us looking on enviously next season as he takes a team up from the Championship.

It’s time to move on for both us and him.

What is his legacy ? Most of the squad are over 30. It’s a complete re-building job now.

No one could deny it was effective but for the majority of the time it was an awful watch.. Anyway, it’s gone - we move on, Just hope we can rebuild, trust a bit in youth, different formations etc.

No, we need the Sean Dyche of 2012 or even the Owen Coyle of 2007 but even had Dyche not left when he did then this summer was the right time to make a change.

You’ll note that I said “no”, so there’s no need to “move on”.

Bracketing him as an Aidy Boothroyd, after what he has achieved and given us over almost ten years, give over.

I’ve not been a fan of some of the football over recent years and certainly felt that there have been mistakes, but to be so belittling of what we’ve had is pretty poor.

No. We are going to experience a few seasons of transition now, hopefully under a progressive young manager. Dyche is not the answer. Will always owe him a debt of gratitude, however could not suffer any more of his attritional football. Would love Rooney to come and manage us but think he will stay loyal to Derby and repay the fans faith in him.

A definite no.

When we get over the relegation, get a new manager with new ideas, new young players coming in , we could be in for some fun times.
We have had it in the past and it can easily happen again.

Absolutely not. Dyche brought great times to the club but one of the reasons our squad looks on his knees and in need of a total overhaul is him. Fresh start, fresh ideas.
