And that he has met Nice to discuss terms with last week.
Could you point to me where it specifically says he ‘discussed terms’?

Nixon on twitter now responding to fans asking what’s the hold up and should we be worried:

‘Your clubs not worried’

‘I did say permits come in their own time… but that doesn’t stop people asking every day’
People will continue to ask every day till it is (or is not) completed, that’s just obvious when the season starts in 7 weeks and we have so many question marks over us.

A lot of people give Nixon a hard time on here, but he has historically been (generally) very consistent with us. If he is saying the Nice link is not of concern, then I’ll accept that. With pre-season due to start in 2 weeks or so, we really need to be cracking on with recruitment, can only hope it’s confirmed today/tomorrow.

Can just imagine what would happen to a club that announced everything they were working on, especially in regards to staff and player signings / contract negotiations

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That’s a very simplistic view.

How long does it take to tie a manager down?

If he’s still not agreed by now move on, obviously doesn’t want to come.

Just say agreed due to work permit if that is the case, not that hard to communicate that is it?

It also says he held talks with Nice?
That’s strange if he has signed a deal with us and is awaiting a work permit
The talks may have been along the lines ;-

"Hi Vincent, if our bloke leaves would you like an interview "

Breaking news... The club would like to inform our fans we are in talks with regards to signing players and a new manager
It was so unprofessional of Barry Kilby and Steve Cotterill to publically discuss the attempts to sign Luton Shelton and that it was all agreed pending a work permit, and that we would be informed the outcome of the permit hearing. Thank God we are run by a more professional man these days.

Unless Kompany turns out for us in a reserve game it’s not really the same is it.

I think most would just be happy with how Cheltenham are dealing with Michael Duff.

Straight open communication so the fans know what is happening.

Not really, I’d have been better off using the example of other managers recently announced ‘pending work permits’, as other posters have referenced on other threads. There is nothing stopping the club doing that if it’s all agreed. Indeed, if ‘I’ was Alan Pace, I’d make a point of doing it to make it clear that if it was to fall through, it was not down to myself/the club but the Home Office or Kompany himself.

I am personally not fussed about experience as long as he has shown in the interview potential. From the outside I can understand peoples concerns

Lots of hedging of bets going on here by those who like to pretend they’re in the know whilst saying absolutely nothing.
Exactly this. Apparently things appeared to be what they now do not to them.

Some people actually do look to know what the status is, others simply don't understand how some things work.

Right so they have met and discussed terms and then told Kompany we will be in touch if our manager does leave ? Does Kompany then sit and wait for PSG to sack Pochettino and then appoint their new guy ?

Frank Lampard had never managed before Derby, but I imagine he was on a ton. Likewise I bet he's on even more now at Everton, despite failing at Chelsea. Kompany's name/career come at a premium to attract him also. I think three years is a good grounding, at a good club also. There has been a clamour from some for Duff, Rooney, Barton who are all in the same boat. To get this 'revolution' of youth that people seem to want, whoever the target was would always have had limited seasons as a manager under their belt.

For reference, Eddie Howe had 'only' managed for 3 years at Bournemouth before we appointed him.

Perhaps the whole Orsic saga affected Alan Pace more than we thought.
Perhaps he is learning not to put anything out there until the contract is signed sealed and delivered?

That’s your problem, believing this stuff. Someone comes with a story and before you know where you are, others jump on it and add bits to it. If you look back past the nonsense there is no reference to him having met them.

I believe Lampard was on around 1.75m at Derby. But again I would say that was really expensive and a big risk.

Like I said there’s nothing wrong with paying an inexperienced manager good money as long as he earns it. But as I said I can see the concern with paying an inexperienced manager that much money.

In fairness to Pace I’m not sure he himself ever did r.e Orsic, the media just seemed to have wind of it. Good point though, maybe that falling through has made him more guarded around updating.

Apart from in th Lancs Live article by Alex James who is the most reliable contact we have atm:

'The Ligue 1 outfit finished fifth in the French top division in 2021/22, but manager Christophe Galtier looks set to leave the club amid links with PSG. Belgian newspaper Le Soir claim that Nice met with Kompany last week, with British owners INEOS said to be appealed by the Belgian's profile as a coach.'

Similar!?
Duff has managed 203 games for Cheltenham and gotten them a promotion and their highest ever finish. Kompany has managed 92. He's closer to Rooney who is on 85, Duff has over twice the experience.

Kompany might well be a good manager but let's be accurate.

Firstly, Alex James tweeted to say he’s on holiday this week. That article was likely produced by the second name on it, a PNE reporter.

Secondly, that snippet does NOT say ‘discussed terms’ as you wrongly stated.

Thirdly, it’s just regurgitating a Le Soir report, so lancs live are not adding a single thing new.

Apart from that, good job.

He didn't but the Burnley Express said he flew to Zagreb on a night flight so understandable if true.

Tony I'm confused by some of your comments- you imply the Nice stuff isn't true but also that the work permit isn't-this would suggest a third reason only you know. Is there any more you can say without risking giving away your source?

I have this horrible feeling that the appointment of a manager might be linked to our ownership structure, which may be up in the air. Hoping I’m wrong.

While some managers this season were announced before work permits were processed, Jesse Marsch at Leeds wasn't.

They waited until his work permit was approved before announcing.

Just adding this as previously I'd only used examples of Conte, Ten Hag and Rangnick who they announced before permits had been approved.

With someone like Kompany and Rooney you're hiring a name, who has contacts at some of the biggest clubs in England.
Both of those two would have better access to the youth players than some other managers, IF they play a style of football that the parent club likes.

If £2.5 million means we get an influx of City's younger players who propel us into the PL, then it's good value for money.

So glad to have UTC back and this thread in my life again!

I now know what cold turkey is like not being able to refresh it every few mins and get absolutely no news whatsoever about the Clarets getting a new manager, hour by hour, day by day. Having to keep looking on the general internet yesterday and Sunday to find absolutely no news there either in no way came close to delivering the same hit!

Increasingly seems like VK coming to BFC is old news now. We're in one hell of a mess aren't we? Staying up next season already feels like it will be a bonus....

Although, Bielsa was sacked on the 27th Feb and Marsch was appointed on the 28th Feb on the Leeds Official Site ‘Pending international clearance’ (perhaps work permit, not certain).

Why the mammoth delay with Kompany in comparison to Marsch? I appreciate we had two bank holidays but it seems so bizarre that it would be so vastly different to Leeds mid-season.

Well, quite. Rather seems to confirm the work permit business is horse poo. He's plainly d!cking us around waiting for a better offer before committing, or just d!cking us around full stop.

I rather suspect they'd agreed terms and applied for Marsch's work permit before they potted Bielsa.

No announcements as Kompany is assessing his options.

We want him- but saying so and then he doesn't come won't look great for the 2nd or 3rd choice manager who then automatically has his (or her) authority undermined when they start.

I read the home office stopped doing fast track applications since the Ukraine disaster, to prioritise their citizens. Add to that, the PL season is finished, weeks before the new season, they may not see the same urgency that was there mid season.

CT are you still confident of this happening?
Doubt he'll bother answering because of the stick he'll get if it turns out differently to his reply. Can't say I blame him because it's not done until it is. Have to admit though that this is dragging on longer than our incoming transfers which is quite worrying, let's hope it doesn't turn out the same way as a lot of them did. Miss out on our target and end up with nothing or with a last minute desperation signing.

I rather suspect they'd agreed terms and applied for Marsch's work permit before they potted Bielsa.
Yes true, quite possible.

He probably wouldn’t be asked as often if he didn’t make inferences along the way.

CT made a suggestion that the work permit issue wasn’t the delay and he’s been asked politely by more than one poster to expand and has simply ignored the questions.

To be honest i am sick of the whole business regarding the new manager and rumours about this that and the other..
I am very disappointed we have not heard anything at all from Pace, even if he had just said something, like things are being sorted both with regards to a new manager and sorting out a retained list.I will update you as soon as possible..To say nothing really, since Dyche and his team left is really poor in my opinion.

Put it this way. If he has indeed agreed a deal with us and it is just red tape holding things up, if he goes anywhere else at this point I wouldn’t be too sorry.

I have been defending the club for resisting spouting sound bites with no substance since the end of the season, but having been relegated, and having escaped the fan meltdown about it by the healthy rumour mill suggesting a club reset, the delay is now draining that cold-comfort enthusiasm. So much for our forward planning.

While players remain under contract until the end of June, there will be less that can be done before then but time is now very much at a premium to be ready for the early season start. There needs to be some positivity coming from the club soon: one piece of club history the board should be aware off is that throwing a load of ‘names’ onto the field has never worked: The team needs gelling on the training ground, and that takes time.

I know a hell of a lot more than you and it's not because I don't know. But don't worry, it got you a like from Jörmungandr, another who can't wait to have a go at me.
