If you’d have lamented the lack of communication from the club on here under the previous ownership, you would have had to wear a tinfoil hat on here. Now it appears to be the norm.

What are you hoping or expecting to hear while there is nothing to announce ?

Everton’s end of season communication was really good. But again I believe they also had a group of fans that complained about it (saying that they don’t trust Moshiri etc…).

Who knows what the best way forward is.

Or is she? I met someone last week who's brother's ex-wife overheard a rumour that she's been offered a larger tea urn and cake trays at Ewood!

Worrying time

I think it’s shocking. This is confirmation that Burnley Football Club is no longer the ‘community club’ it used to be praised for.

I’m not interested in them keeping supporters up to date with the managerial appointments, but our chairman hasn’t even recognised relegation.

Around the stadium, before the Newcastle match, the LEDs were flashing ‘Together We Can!!’ Then after losing the match the club decided against doing a ‘lap of appreciation’ and we’ve heard nothing since. Poor form in my opinion.

You mean the ‘community club’ people were constantly having a go at for lack of communication?

Call me old fashioned, but I only want news when there’s anything new. Maybe it’s the world of 24 hour news channels constantly churning out meaningless drivel between actual news stories and the same on social media that leads people to believe they need to be constantly informed even when there’s nothing to tell.

When did Garlick ever ‘recognise relegation’? Do any owners even do that?

I have reservations about ALK but I do think people are throwing things about with no real thought.

Why do you keep playing the world's smallest violin for this regime?

People did lament lack of communication under Garlick. People lament this lack of communication. They're not mutually exclusive and the previous regime being bad at it doesn't give the incumbent regime a free pass.

This was the open letter issued on our last relegation.

This isn’t recognising relegation, it’s from John B about how he’s stepping down.

It’s from John B not Garlick. Because he’s stepping down. It wouldn’t have even appeared if he wasn’t stepping down. It’s not a specific communication about relegation which is what some seem to want from the club.

Garlick wasn’t in charge then though? He took over that day.

I don’t think anyone is asking for specific communication. I think people are just asking for communication as a whole. This open letter effectively covers a number of topics. Something off the same ilk (similar to Everton’s open letter) would appease most.

Yes that’s correct. But I assume people that don’t want to hear anything will be happy regardless.

So an open letter like that would keep the majority of the fan base happy.

I think Pace will do some kind of statement when Kompany is announced

I've not knocked them from the word go, so you can wind your neck in. I've knocked the economics of the takeover from day one as nothing will ever convince me that leveraged buyout was right- and I wasn't a hardcore Garlick Out type either before you ask.
I've given them credit on the (few) things that warrant it -modernising the ad hoardings, being willing to sanction overseas signings unlike Garlick, supporting the push towards analytics which Dyche was pushing for here years ago, behind the scenes training videos/Weghorst signing video showing some semblance of engagement with player profile culture and modern football marketing- and gave them the benefit of the doubt and took positive talk as a positive sign til the end of the January window despite Wood leaving.
You seem to jump on all criticism as unfair and wrong, or all critics as being unreasonable. It is not unreasonable to point out the failings of ALK,even if some of those are failings the previous owners shared.
I don't care if it bores you frankly. If they keep doing things that I think are mistakes I'll keep saying so, and happen to find blanket defence of them at all times equally tedious.

You always jump to their defence uncritically then act like every single critic is unfair and unreasonable with no nuance. I was fed up of it so I asked why you do this- granted I did so somewhat provocatively. Apologies for that, I should have moderated my tone.

But you then proceed to continue to act like all criticism is unfair and prejudiced and refuse to address or engage with the central point- that it's not and that the previous owners having some of the same flaws doesn't change that.

Fair enough. I apologise for getting defensive. They aren’t beyond criticism and the economics of the takeover is above my head. On the face of it, it isn’t ideal but they’ve only been here 18 months, in the midst of a pandemic with a squad that has been neglected for far too long under the previous administration. It was always going to take time, and unfortunately it wasn’t enough time to save us from relegation. This is the season for me where they really get to test their metal, and I’m as frustrated as anyone at the delay in announcement but the constant moaning and abuse that pace has received has been grossly unfair, which is why I do jump to his defence a bit on here because people are quick to criticise.

Level of debt and how it is due to be paid? Are the rumours in the press around significant repayment true, and how do they plan to pay for them?

It's over 3 weeks since the end of the season, and 6 since the previous manager left, with a view that an interim manager was due to be appointed. There have been no official comms on progress.

The academy is rumoured to be losing it's category one status. What's happened there, what are the club doing about it? Was it something the club wanted to do in order to cut costs?

The club captain has left the club, as have a number of first team pros.... all there has been is a stock thanks for the memories statement. Did they offer contracts? Were they turned down? Is it a part of the plan for them all to move on, to give a bright new future based on youth? Is it a cost cutting exercise? We can all guess, so don't tell me your opinions, I would like the club to communicate on it.

But you're right..... there's nothing at all to communicate on, other than last season's kits being on sale, and a view on LED's and the big screens.

Next on the agenda? Maybe a statement about how Pace is going to repay the £112m (maybe more by now) that he owes the club.

The issue I have is the economics of the takeover massively reduced the resources available to refresh the squad and prevent relegation (summer 2021 gross spend was lower than summer 2019- the last time Garlick spent) and the investment they did sanction appears to have been more geared towards changing the aesthetics/playing style, rather than strengthening- a subtle but important difference. Creates the weird paradox of trying to change too much too soon but also not having the resources to change/reinforce enough. Add in the similar situation with Dyche- signing players allegedly not wanted, giving him a huge extension suggesting commitment to him and then sacking him (irrespective of the new manager bump)- it smacks of them pulling in different directions from one moment to the next without the resources or acumen to fully commit. I don't accept that relegation was purely down to lack of time, the old regime not investing in 2020 (which by all accounts was driven as a prerequisite of this takeover so again casts blame at ALKs door for their methodology as much as Garlick for agreeing), or Dyche making mistakes. ALK drove a budget squeeze then failed to align with the manager, half backed him in the summer, backed him with a large contract while again having transfer issues (and apparently disputes) in January then sacked him. That level of misalignment and instability contributed massively.

I agree that the personal attacks have been unfair. There's a point in questioning if cultural differences between the USA and UK may contribute to some initial difficulties and miscommunications but an awful lot of the sentiment there massively oversteps the mark. I think there is a point regarding the difference between corporate, Wall Street finance culture and the mentality it promotes vs football clubs as community institutions but I'd agree it's too early to say if that is an issue here yet, a consideration sure but not necessarily a problem. The religion criticisms are way out of line and something I've defended them on- there's the argument their religion is a positive as the Church of LDS practice excommunication of members who behave disreputably, putting a pressure on them to behave responsibly as owners. As for the topic at hand- Communication isn't even close to top of my list of issues because it is regrettably familiar but that doesn't make it not an issue.

I guess from my perspective I just find it frustrating when people express criticisms that are considered and reasonable, and still get shouted down as naysayers- or flat out ignored.
