History says international teams win tournaments with settled teams, England are nowhere near, Southgate doesn't even understand what a settled side is, it's been coming as far as I can see, anybody can play for England now, and god only knows why he continues to pick Bellingham. Summary - : same old, boring.

Wonder how many people will remember this game once the WC starts. Maybe Hungary will, they aren't in it.

"Young team" excuses excuses. You're a shite, boring and dull manager. You pick the team and you pick the way they set up. You're clueless Gareth. Kudos for taking the blame but the crowd were booing you not the players you donut.

Lost 1-5 to Scotland 1928. And 3-6 Hungary circa 1953

I remain to be convinced that he is the man to get a full tune out of what we have available. He is though a decent bloke - I’d love for him to be successful.

They're well drilled and very organized and that was enough to completely pick us apart.

But to put Southgate's excuses in context, does anyone think Callum Styles (relegated from the Championship) would have made the England starting lineup? Well, he started and formed part of a side that just thrashed England.

That England squad team probably has a transfer value close to £400-500 million versus a Hungary side worth maybe £70-80 million max. It was like watching Dyche's Burnley versus a disorganized top six side. They knew exactly how what their game plan was, stuck to it and Southgate just jumped into the traps.

He's a very nice bloke by all accounts. I'd love him to be successful too but I'd also like to go out with Natalie Portman.

I've got a better chance of that happening than Southgate becoming a good manager. He simply doesn't have the skills and the character for it.

I would rather he was successful but he's just uninspiring. You can only ride a crest of a wave for so long. I mean he has got us to a semi final and final but look back at them runs and we hardly put in real stunning performances. We did enough. And just doing enough will stop after a while. See Dyche. You have to adapt and not carry on picking the sane players and doing the same things.

I wonder if GS will be re-thinking his priorities for goalkeeper? He might move being able to keep the ball out of the net to being number one priority and move passing the ball s lot lower.

Individual performances and kind draws have papered over the cracks for a while. We are going backwards rapidly

He’s been in the england setup since 2013 with the u21’s then taking the srs on in 2016. I’d say that we still don’t have a recognisable way of playing or style , or a settled team. And this is after 6 years in the role for him to map and work it out. He hasn’t. He is massively tactically unaware , and incapable of making game changing decisions.

We batted well to win the test match.

We will win nothing with him in charge ,he has blown our chances previously with his ultra cautious approach ,cost us the final in the Euros, and semi in the world cup, we had easy run ins as well which papered over the cracks.

Its not about ‘taking it seriously’ or not. Other teams have been up for it and frankly looked threatening to score some goals. We’ve been absolutely s*** in all 4 games. I can’t remember ever seeing worse performances in an international break from us.
Belgium got pumped 4-0 at home the other night, European Champs Italy thrashed tonight. Have France won a game yet? The big nations clearly don't give a **** about this tournament so why should the fans care so much?

Literally every big nation has used this ''tournament'' to constantly rotate players, nobody is playing their main team each game apart from the small worthless nations like Hungary. I'm an expert and couldn't name some of the young kids in the Italian setup.

It matters because we are likely to be relegated to Lge B now and play a lot less challenging teams, where we will flatter to deceive again. These are not meaningless games as they have consequences for the next tournament in terms of opponents
who cares lol? relegated to group B or not, group B is probably tougher given the smaller nations are actually playing fuller strength sides. They are meaningless, entirely meaningless.

The tactical masterplan from the Hungarians tonight was to literally stop going short from the goalkeeper to beat England's press ( this happened around the 15th minute) and go long to their center forward. It really was that simple and that simplicity totally bamboozled Southgate

We walloped this lot 4-0 in a World Cup qualifier not long ago, if this was a World Cup game tonight, we run them over 3+. It's not that easy to throw a bunch of random players together at the end of a long season and expect them to perform in a pre-season friendly when they should be resting ahead of pre-season with their clubs.

England looked anything but cohesive tonight, are people shocked 11 players thrown together looked so dysfunctional?

I didn’t rate Southgate in the World Cup, the Euros, then again now. He’s been lucky, but has regularly come unstuck against decent opposition. It isn’t to do with time of year, this is us. Panicky defence and goalie, the occasional world class save papering over the cracks. Not enough flair, talent on the bench. Two holding midfielders yet still overrun.

Southgate has always been a cautious/defensive manager. Now he seems to have developed a team that cant even defend- so there's not much/nothing left. Performance tonight was especially poor but its been building to this over a few games. No settled team, no aggressive intent, no great belief- not much there to cling on to.

Not long ago is a long time in football, what worked 12 months ago might not work now. It's how you adapt and change your style as we all know as Burnley supporters ;)
