In my opinion Westwood, Stepehens, Cork, possibly Brownhill weren't PL central midfielders either. We have needed an upgrade in this area for a long while. We have now been relegated and need to prepare for the Championship. We have a new manager who is keen to bring in younger, new blood, after the club has decided to release its older out of contract players amd some other good players have decided to move on. We need new players, especially in midfield, so I welcome us being linked with these new names.
I agree that over the last 18 months the Midfield has not been good enough but two players you have picked out in particular, (Cork and Westwood) have been treated a little unfairly in your statement in my opinion. Cork is probably one of the only players in our sqaud that I would say is an established Premier league player, and Westwood certainly did enough to suggest he was PL quality, even if only for a season or two. Stephens and Brownhill I agree aren't PL level and Centre Mid has needed strengthening for a long time. I would still like another CM but personally I think Cork, Westwood, Brownhill and Bastien will be better than most other teams in the division.
I still think the priority needs to be on a Striker and a Winger. I also want to see us sign someone who can drag the team up a level if we need it, like Barton did for us.

Not that much of a difference to be fair. 91% versus 96%.

Completely ready to eat my words if it comes to it but the Championship is not the quality it once was. It is competitive but the actually quality has dropped in recent years. Covid has had a big impact on a lot of the teams finances, just look at how few have signed players. Even if we have a rough year I expect us to atleast make the playoffs.

I would agree with this. However, quality of manager/tactics etc. is probably the highest it's ever been which almost cancels out the drop.

And the new lad Bastien looks a similar character to Cornet so will probably suit him down to the ground.
This is a strange this to say. I wonder on what basis you consider them to be similar characters, especially if you’ve met neither.
To be fair to you maybe you are thinking that they are both francophone and both have African heritage so yes I guess this would be points in common.

have you seen how quickly Man City chase back when they lose the ball - I expect our intensity to be up on what we usually see tbh, if you don't work hard you wont get in a VK team
Yes, City chase the ball down to get it and attack again.
Dyche wanted everyone back in the framework as quick as possible.
We shouldn't have teams breaking on us quite as quick as the Prem, unless it's long ball, which is far easier to snuff out.
We should be dominating the ball and leaving these flair players with more energy going forwards.

They both seem flashy, outgoing characters from what I have seen. Not the shy type. Love the limelight, not fazed.
Where as Nick Pope for instance always looked embarrassed when fans praised him or sung his song at him.
I hope this puts your mind at rest.

Yes I have noted that Burnley are one of the few Championship clubs able to splash the cash, and most transfer business for other clubs involves mainly free agents.
And looking at the division, if we get our affairs in order we certainly shouldn't fear anybody, Norwich will likely be strong as they usually are at this level, but nobody else strikes fear into me, as long as we continue to recruit well, and most importantly retain our key men, no reason we can't enjoy a successful season.

Have to say there isn't much business to shout about on this list, other than our own. Will be interesting to keep an eye on.

If we could line up something like this come Huddersfield I suspect we finish in the top 2:
Muric
Roberts, Collins, THB, Taylor
Bastien, Wiles,
O’Hare, Twine, McNeil
New
I would think more like:
Muric
Roberts, Collins, THB, Taylor
McNeil, Bastien, Brownhill, Cornet
Twine
New

Bastien, Brownhill,
Cornet Twine McNeil
Jay Rod
Looks the best with what we have so far (presuming the keeper is as far down the line as they say)

JRod and Barnes are good players to have on the bench but can't see either of them starting regularly so I hope we can at least sign a striker now.

I think Jay Rod still has enough to score plenty in the championship.
He has a great record still in the cups.

Yes I watch our games, his attitude was fine at Spurs. Not his best game but that doesn’t equate to bad attitude. Though you certainly seem to be an expert in the field judging by your recent posts.

Got a feeling, particularly the with player from Rotherham that we are anticipating him saying “I want to go” to move the deal forward.
We’ve made offers, they are trying to sit tight, maybe it’s up to him to try and push it along.

Loads of midfielders keep being linked, none of these are wide players by trade either (Knight can play wide, O’Hare deemed a central attacking midfielder/number ten by Coventry fans when I had a brief perusal of their forum yesterday). Interesting stuff I think. Without knowing an awful lot of VK’s style, it makes me think the width will be expected to come from Taylor and Roberts rather than a traditional ‘winger’ - pure guesswork by me though.
Hopefully we’re cracking on with a couple of strikers following the Muleka deal falling apart.

I’d say that’s quite accurate Jedi - if he plays the same / similar system as at Anderlecht, the two ‘wide men’ play very much as ‘inside 10s’, hence why we are seeing links to this type of player.

Hopefully we’re cracking on with a couple of strikers following the Muleka deal falling apart.
I read an article before VK joined regarding the tactics he used with Anderlecht.
While in possession the LB and RB advanced forward, while Cullen dropped back onto the right of a 3 man defence
While out of possession the LB and RB dropped into a back 4 and Cullen moved forward into a midfield 4

Sounds more like a game of chess than footy.

I’ve just had a quick look at SkyBluesTalk, Cov fans saying that they are only expecting loans to come in this window. Sounds like they haven’t got a great deal of money.
Plus, O’Hare has 2 years left on his contract, which makes you wonder whether SISU would allow it to run down to only 1 year, or cash in now.
Some Cov fans thinking £5M plus add ons may be enough.
If we’re persistent with O’Hare and Kompany really wants him, then I imagine we will get him. May just be dependent on us selling someone first, though.

A long but very insightful article. I for one would never thought I could get excited about a 4 4 2.

If you think about it, it's kind of similar in ways to how we played under Dyche in the first promotion season. The wide players played inside quite often allowing Trippier to bomb forward, while the deeper lying midfielder covered the back four
