I’ve mentioned it before but some players won’t be hit in their first year, it’s usually the second season to try and make them stay for a year to get back up. The club still get decent parachute payments for the first year
I don’t know if that’s true or not, maybe the odd player? You’ve got a wage bill at 90m (this was the 3rd lowest in the PL too) and parachute payments of just 42m.
According to all the accounts of recently relegated clubs, it happened immediately. Check out Bournemouth’s latest accounts. Also the note in our own accounts says there are significant wage cuts on relegation to mitigate the loss of TV money.

Probably more the case at your bigger clubs than someone like us

Alex James provided a few updates this morning
Believes there’s been no Wolves contact for Brownhill as some were reporting, no Leeds contact for Taylor and no contact from Burnley for Dara O’Shea at West brom.

Belgian press reporting interest in Anderlecht goalkeeper Verbruggen.
Bid of 3M €, Anderlecht want 5-6.
A bit steep for an unproven 19 yr old if you ask me

Wolves story was broken by a two-bit fan account and was always going to be ********, Taylor story is just half nostalgic Leeds fans talking about it constantly, and other half of the fanbase saying don't want him back. Dara O'Shea story just feels like the agent trying to bump his deal up, I never expected us to go for another centre back, especially an old school type who isn't 'ball playing'.

It's instant unless the player has a clause preventing it in their contract, which would be odd.
Our previous accounts examined by the likes of Swiss Ramble have shown it.

Peter crouch gives some decent insight to this in his podcast…. I think it’s either the relegation episode or the contract episode. It’s not as black and white as some are saying on here. It is a contract clause, however clubs do make exceptions to not enforce it, seemed to be the gist of what he had experienced.

Yeah the clause essentially gives clubs the right to reduce wages by the agreed amount, but if the club wanted to keep a player after being relegated there’s nothing stopping them not enforcing the clause or making a smaller reduction as an incentive to try and keep the player.

To give Pace his due, whilst the outgoings may not appear to be pulling in the £££ we thought they would, Neither do the incomings.
If we’re letting Hennessey go then you would imagine we’ve got our man at a more agreeable cost.

Seems close but we were told it would only complete when we'd brought in a keeper.
So perhaps one is also close to joining us.
EDIT - scrap that, club have just confirmed he's gone.

Forest wrap up Hennessey signing
Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey from Burnley.
The 35-year-old Wales international has signed a two-year deal at the City Ground and will provide competition for Dean Henderson, following his loan arrival from Manchester United.
Hennessey told nottinghamforest.co.uk: “I’ve come up against Forest a lot in the past and it’s a fantastic club.
"There’s a great fanbase and the atmosphere at the City Ground is up there with the best in the game. It’ll be a different level now that we’re back in the Premier League.
“I have also played with and against a few of the Forest players. It’s a very exciting time to come on board and I can’t wait to get involved and start training here at the Nigel Doughty Academy.”

Little concerning if he’s coming in as a number 1. He’s 19 and only played 7 senior games

I suspect our new GK coach has worked with him and knows him well, and wants him to reunite with the coaching team. He is obviously well thought of.Sounds promising and maybe the No 1 choice for us

A 19 year old keeper who has played (as far as I can tell) 7 first team games cannot be our first choice keeper, surely.

From comments I’ve seen from Anderlecht fans / Belgian league followers they don’t believe he would be coming as a back up. Seems very highly thought of there and of course by our manager / GK coach too.

The keeper sounds like a good prospect, who I'm pleased may be coming, but at 19 he's far too young to be first choice. If he is then Muric definitely isn't coming at all, he won't play second fiddle to a kid.
Big fear is that any mistakes will flip his head, its a lot of responsibility, and why most keepers don't come into their prime until late 20's. We can't afford to take a gamble like that.

Meslier was 19 when he came into the first team at Leeds and helped them get promoted. If you’re good enough..

I have just read this article (nieuwsblad.be) and it claims we are paying between 5 and 7 million (Euros - so between £4.25m and £6m...) for Verbruggen. That seems an insanely high amount for him based on what he has played so far? Having seen those numbers I would agree with RVclaret - no way we're spending that for a Number 2.
----------------
Burnley made a first offer – reportedly around 3 million euros – for Bart Verbruggen (19). The goalkeeper does have ears for Kompany's English club, but Anderlecht is counting on a higher transfer fee.
Anderlecht had a plan with Bart Verbruggen. The Dutchman would be the regular goalkeeper of the U23 in 1B, but also the first stand-in of Hendrik van Crombrugge in the first team. According to the regulations, it is allowed to put a goalkeeper/player on the match sheet in both the Jupiler Pro League and the Challenger Pro League on the same weekend. Only there is a real chance that Vincent Kompany will put a stop to that.
Burnley have been pulling on the sleeve of Verbruggen for several weeks and the English second division player is now shifting up a gear to incorporate the Dutchman. There is a multi-year contract ready at Turf Moore and the Dutchman could become the first goalkeeper. The Clarets knocked on rsca's door with a similar bid as for Cullen – about 3 million – but that is not enough. Verbruggen is a talent that is still fixed until 2025 and so Anderlecht demands a higher transfer fee. The water is still deep, but the ambitious goalkeeper himself would like to go to The Championship. According to English sources, Burnley is willing to increase the bid to finally end up with a transfer amount between 5 and 7 million euros.
The people of Brussels can make a hefty profit anyway, because they took Verbruggen away from NAC Breda in 2020 for about 300,000 euros. Anderlecht have to get a new (young) goalkeeper to play in 1B. With the A-team, Colin Coosemans can also be the double of Van Crombrugge. Timon Wellenreuther can look forward to another club.

It’s not so much the fact he’s 19, just that he’s 19 behind what can be considered and inexperienced defence
