Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Tired of hearing this we need an experienced centre half, Norwich have had promotion for several years with young backlines and their experienced player at the back has been Grant Hanley...give me a young inexperienced player over him any day of the week

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
If we sell Cornet for the expected £17.5m release clause, I don't think it's too ambitious to want 50% (O'Hare) spent on a replacement and not 10% (Benson). £20m in for Collins, we can't spend 25% (£5m) of that on a replacement?
I don't think i'm being too unrealistic with what I want to see but I guess am I with the response I get on here. Like I said, I'm happy with the business so far, 2 or 3 ready to go and I think we'll have a big season. I'd even take someone like Brewster here from Sheff United, pacey and very different, 11 in 22 at Swansea, played only 14 games last season (3 goals). Still 22, clearly talented, I'd back him to do well here.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
It’s likely with the Cornet and Collins deals, if we are smart, that future incoming cash flows will be matched with the outgoing ones that we still owe on them to Stoke and Lyon. That could be anywhere between 12-18m we still owe to them.KRBFC wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 4:28 pmIf we sell Cornet for the expected £17.5m release clause, I don't think it's too ambitious to want 50% (O'Hare) spent on a replacement and not 10% (Benson). £20m in for Collins, we can't spend 25% (£5m) of that on a replacement?

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
strange one in the PL, Kasper Schmeichel has agreed to join OGC Nice (can't go until Leicester get a replacement though)
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Apparently that Iversen (who was on loan at PNE last season) is very good, not sure if he'll replace KS though.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 4:33 pmstrange one in the PL, Kasper Schmeichel has agreed to join OGC Nice (can't go until Leicester get a replacement though)

I had read he is on over 100k a week and was wanting a pay rise to sign a new deal, weird move as he can't be getting that much at Nice.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 4:33 pmstrange one in the PL, Kasper Schmeichel has agreed to join OGC Nice (can't go until Leicester get a replacement though)

Yes you are right , Norwich had an experienced centre half who helped them to promotion.Cleveleys_claret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 4:21 pmTired of hearing this we need an experienced centre half, Norwich have had promotion for several years with young backlines and their experienced player at the back has been Grant Hanley...give me a young inexperienced player over him any day of the week
That is why you keep hearing about the need for the same for us.
Maybe you simply don’t rate Hanley but he always seemed to get the better of our attackers and provided the kind of steel a good defence needs

The Leicester situation goes to show just how hard it is to stay sustainable in the top flight unless one of the so called big six, seeing it with them and Wolves and their massive cost cutting

Let’s not forget they also had Gibson and omabomidele as well.Elizabeth wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 4:38 pmYes you are right , Norwich had an experienced centre half who helped them to promotion.

It’s a bit of a stupid comparison tbh. They had two seasoned professional and a full Irish international with PL experience as reserve. Plus Duffy was out on loan.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I was not impressed when Benson played for us 2 years ago so no idea why are we going for him again.

He's a proper footballer is our Ash....an intelligent player & very good at laying it off.jedi_master wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 2:38 pmIn fairness to Barnes, and yes it was Shrewsbury Town in a friendly - he looked quite good dropping deep and collecting the ball to lay off to runners.
Not saying he’ll botch loads himself like, but he didn’t look lost in Kompany’s system.
I really don't understand some of the stick he gets on here.

Can't disagree with the need for some experience at CB although if money and time is tight we have three young guns and Long
Wide areas are a real concern given Max almost certain to go as will McNeil if the money is right, plus JBG will hardly ever feature with injuries
Just two fit strikers and both well into their 30's
Still plenty of work to do by the recruitment team - and the sooner the better as we will have played 7 games when window shuts

Bingo.
Usual posters lambasting the club for only spending a fraction of what we have brought in, whilst conveniently forgetting we still owe a sh*t tonne to both Stoke and Lyon.

Would be really strange to see him come full circle, given he was guided through his season with us by the old head of McGreal and he would then be performing that same role for us with the new signings.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 3:06 pmI’d have Gary Cahill on a free for a season no problem.

Apparently the Gibson sum was paid as he didn’t reach the adds on required to take it higher than the 8m.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 7:16 pmWe owed money on Gibson, what we got for him is pretty much what our original outlay was.

That money was just a straight transaction.
We got about 1m for Benson and similar for Dunne I believe

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Does that money owed have to be paid in a lump sum after a player leaves or do the previously agreed installments continue? Surely having to pay off one transfer fee in full while receiving the selling fee in installments would be problematic for most clubs.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Just a couple of thoughts:
I believe Gary Cahill and family are settled in London so if he continues his playing career I'd expect it to be at a club close to home.
Wasn't part of the reason Cornet came to Burnley was that he would be allowed to play in his favoured position, and not wing back. Perhaps a reason he wouldn't go to Forest was they wouldn't play where he wanted to play. This is just conjecture; but one thing is for sure he is premiership class and would improve most squads there.
