‘If I hadn’t seen such riches I could live with being poor’

James -Sit Down

‘Fare you well, and carry me away and sing for those I know upon their birthdays’

Ocean Colour Scene- The Circle. Huge sentiment and emotion behind that for me.

Well, I hit him hard right between the eyes
And he went down but to my surprise
Came up with a knife and
Cut off a piece of my ear

Sam Stone was alone when he popped his last balloon,
Climbing walls while sitting in a chair,
Well they played his last request,
While the room smelled just like death,
With an overdose hovering in the air

Now im not a man, who likes to get mad
When i do i dont feel too bad
Come some situations
You just cant let it be

Like last night, i caught my wife
F**king two of my friends
A smile on her face
D**k in each hand
Guilt runnin down her chin

(Nashville Pussy - Go to Hell)

"Every day is Christmas and every night is New Years Eve" from the Sweetest Taboo by Sade.
"And these Children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're going through".....Bowie from Changes
Spent yesterday listening to music and these two stood out for me the Bowie lyrics are genius and in that song they where delivered to perfection.

You get a shiver in the dark
It's a raining in the park but meantime-
South of the river you stop and you hold everything.

Cant pick out one or even just a few lyrics as when I was an impressionable youngster the lyrics to this whole song really made me think and understand myself (and other people) at a lot deeper level and in my opinion its still as relevant to human life today as it was when it was first written

Got to be the opening lines from Kinky Afro by Black Grape.

"Son, I'm thirty
I only went with your mother 'cause she's dirty
And I don't have a decent bone in me"

Time can never mend
The careless whispers of a good friend
To the heart and mind
Ignorance is kind
There's no comfort in the truth
Pain is all you'll find

As this thread has gone beyond one line I give you complete Goodnight Saigon by Billy Joel. My favourite, of many, anti-war songs. Perfection.
We met as soul mates
On Parris Island
We left as inmates
From an asylum
And we were sharp
As sharp as knives
And we were so gung ho
To lay down our lives
We came in spastic
Like tameless horses
We left in plastic
As numbered corpses
And we learned fast
To travel light
Our arms were heavy
But our bellies were tight
We had no home front
We had no soft soap
They sent us Playboy
They gave us Bob Hope
We dug in deep
And shot on sight
And prayed to Jesus Christ
With all of our might
We had no cameras
To shoot the landscape
We passed the hash pipe
And played our Doors tapes
And it was dark
So dark at night
And we held on to each other
Like brother to brother
We promised our mothers we'd write
And we would all go down together
We said we'd all go down together
Yes we would all go down together
Remember Charlie
Remember Baker
They left their childhood
On every acre
And who was wrong?
And who was right?
It didn't matter in the thick of the fight
We held the day
In the palm
Of our hand
They ruled the night
And the night
Seemed to last as long as six weeks
On Parris Island
We held the coastline
They held the highlands
And they were sharp
As sharp as knives
They heard the hum of our motors
They counted the rotors
And waited for us to arrive
And we would all go down together
We said we'd all go down together
Yes we would all go down together

Even better when Billy sings it.

Loads of ace lines in this

Oh you gonna take me home tonight
Oh down beside that red fire light
Oh you gonna let it all hang out
Fat-bottomed girls you make the rocking world go round

I was just a skinny lad
Never knew no good from bad
But I knew love before I left my nursery
Left alone with big fat Fanny
She was such a naughty nanny
Hey big woman, you made a bad boy out of me

I've been singing with my band
Across the water, across the land
I've seen every blue eyed floozy on the way
But their beauty and their style
Went kind of smooth after a while
Take me to them naughty ladies every time

Oh, won't you take me home tonight
Oh, down beside your red fire light
Oh, and you give it all you got
Fat-bottomed girls you make the rocking world go round
Fat-bottomed girls you make the rocking world go round

Now I got mortgages and homes
I got stiffness in the bones
Ain't no beauty queens in this locality
But I still get my pleasure
Still got my greatest treasure
Hey big woman you gonna make a big man out of me

Oh, you gonna take me home tonight
Oh, down beside that red fire light
Oh, you gonna let it all hang out
Fat-bottomed girls you make the rocking world go round
Fat-bottomed girls you make the rocking world go round
Get on your bikes and ride

Love Jackson Browne, " The Pretender " is one of my top 10 Albums ...

" I'm going to find myself a girl
Who can show me what laughter means
And we'll fill in the missing colours
In each other's paint-by-number dreams
And then we'll put our dark glasses on
And we'll make love until our strength is gone
And when the morning light comes streaming in
We'll get up and do it again
Get it up again "

" I'm going to be a happy idiot
And struggle for the legal tender
Where the ads take aim and lay their claim
To the heart and the soul of the spender
And believe in whatever may lie
In those things that money can buy
Though true love could have been a contender
Are you there?
Say a prayer for the Pretender
Who started out so young and strong
Only to surrender "

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure, the privilege is mine

Well I’ve just re-read the sleeve notes and Glenn Frey does say he first heard it coming up from Jacksons apartment but the song is credited to both of them. I actually heard the story in an interview with Glenn Frey RIP.

The sky was Bible black in Lyon when I met the Magdalene
She was paralysed in a streetlight she refused to give her name
And a ring of violet bruises
They were pinned upon her arm.
Two hundred francs for sanctuary and she led me by the hand
To a room of dancing shadows where all the heartache disappears
And from glowing tongues of candles I heard her whisper in my ear
"'J'entend ton coeur"
I can hear your heart

I've been afraid all of my life
Crippled with anxiety, shame and doubt
And sometimes, sometimes I'd like to shout
At the top of my lungs and just let it out
What has that fear ever done for me,
But hold me back?
What has jealousy and hate ever done for you
But remind you of what you think you lack? So
Give me love and give me compassion
Self-forgiveness and give me some passion
I love you even if you don't love me,
I love you even if you can't love me

All of this pain that I've kept concealed
But if I didn't speak it, it wouldn't be real
But sometimes, sometimes I feel I have to shout
At the top of my lungs and just let it out
What has that fear ever done for me,
But hold me back? So
Give me love and give me compassion
Self-forgiveness and give me some passion
I love you even if you don't love me, ooh ooh
I love you even if you can't love me
You've been staring at your mirror
Tryna make the picture clearer
But angel, can't you see who's in front of you?
So give me love and give me compassion
Self-forgiveness and give me some passion
I love you even if you don't love me

There goes the siren that warns of the air raid
Then comes the sound of the guns sending flak
Out for the scramble we've got to get airborne
Got to get up for the coming attack.
Jump in the cockpit and start up the engines
Remove all the wheelblocks theres no time to waste
Gathering speed as we head down the runway
Gotta get airborne before it's too late

Move in to fire at the mainstream of bombers
Let off a sharp burst and then turn away
Roll over, spin round to come in behind them
Move to their blindsides and firing again
Bandits at 8 o'clock move in behind us
Ten ME-109's out of the sun
Ascending and turning our spitfires to face them
Heading straight for them I press down my guns.

Your name and mine inside, a heart on a wall
Still finds a way to haunt me, though they're so small.
Just walk away Renee. Four Tops.
