very strange not doing a straight forward 4-4-2.
Going off the squad as it is now.

McNeil..............................Cornet
......................Jay
Gone with Long for his experience. I fear staring a match with a cetnre back pairing with so little experience.

Shameful bench unfortunately - back down to the absolute barrel scraping of last season but with almost all known quality gone.

If Cornet is (apparently) deemed not fit enough to play, no reason why he can’t be on the bench.
He’s still on our books and has trained with the group

Agree with your team.
Interesting though that you call that a shameful bench when it’s got a mix of youth and experience. Everyone clamours over the academy, it’s importance and how Dyche never gave them a chance etc, now it looks like they get chances and it’s labelled shameful?

Roberts Thomas THB Taylor
Cullen Cork
Bastien Brownhill
Barnes Rodriguez
Can't see Twine starting as he hasn't played much, could be on the bench

I hope they step up obviously, but that’s not a bench where I can realistically see massive game winning/saving substitutions. Shameful a strong word but expresses my dismay (as it was last season) that we are scraping the barrel to name players. It shows the squad remains a long way off in my opinion, as was the case last season.

Fair points in some ways, clearly the squad needs and will be strengthened, like Kompany said. Also note that Lowton is not available for 2 games as he is suspended.

I’ll add on that I fully agree with this - he’s earning good money and should be allowed to be a part of Kompany’s team until flogged. I don’t think he will be though.

The strangest thing regarding this game is the betting
When the fixtures were announced we were 2/1 for this game with Hudds 6/4. At the start of the week the odds were pretty much the same, last couple of days has seen the change Hudds are now nearly 2/1 and we are 6/4. Surprised to see us shorten with the sales that have taken place.

I think you've pretty much nailed it. Although Lowton is suspended after that ridiculous red card at Villa

While I agree with Jedi’s team it will be interesting to see if THB and Twine start, as neither played in the past two friendlies so can’t be as match fit as others that are available.

I’m going for this.
All 4 central midfielders we have who are fit starting , not ideal but with the lack of action for twine and JBG I’ve gone for this

I think this is quite likely. Brownhill and Bastien did well in the advanced midfield roles at Shrewsbury. Think VK will want more pace up top, hence Twine's inclusion over Barnes.
Don't mind that bench, similar to other replies. Could include Cornet on the bench too, but even without there's some energy to bring on if we need it.

No Rodriguez already? We desperately need a striker.
Take it either Richardson gets the nod or Twine.
Which radio? Didn’t see it in the twittersphere yet

I've changed about 3 times now, with McNeil going I think it's going to be a very narrow 4-2-2-2

Didn’t hear myself but from a Huddersfield mate , Talk sport apparently had some bookmaker going through the odds and said Rodriguez injured , Cornet not playing because of potential transfer.

I'd start Maatsen ahead of Taylor to give us more width and properly go for it. If his fitness holds up Cork will take the pi$$ in this league in the defensive midfield/pivot role so he'll provide excellent cover in attacks, and besides, I'm less concerned about shutting up shop at such an early stage of the season. Away from home with a brand new team, manager, and playstyle, there is no pressure on us. Let's attack!
Muric
Roberts CJ THB Maatsen
Cullen Cork
Bastien Brownhill
Barnes Jay
Twine's pre-season has been a little bit interrupted, so I wouldn't start him, and Jay and Barnes's height will help defending set-pieces, but I'd get him on the pitch at some point.

I suspected Barnes and Jay-Rod would struggle to maintain fitness over 46 games, but to hear Jay might be out already isn't good.
Makes the need for a new striker all the more urgent in my view.
I keep forgetting about JBG, and if we're relying on him to make a major contribution it's gonna be a long season.

I think that’s probably nailed on as the starting eleven (based on who we know is fit etc…)

Depends how fit THB is. If he’s not 100% I suspect Taylor could start there.
He started there against newcastle last week didn’t he?

Dyche always said he could move into CH if needed I wonder if this is the time for that, he is our most experienced defender and he will be playing like a 3 when defending by the looks of it so might suit him perfectly. I’d rather play him there than 2 young CH

I would probably go something like
Muric
Roberts THB Taylor Maatsan
Cullen Cork
Brownhill Bastien
Rodrigues Richardson
I would play Cornet if fit enough or have him come off the bench for the last 20-30 mins.
Twine I’m not sure about I know he scored goals last season but a lot of them were when driving from deep so he strikes me as more of an attacking mid than a striker

I’m thinking that way too…
Cork
Cullen
Brownhill
Bastien
Twine
Jay (or Barnes if Jay unfit)
To make up the rest of the team… Taylor at CB a bit of a gamble/masterstroke. Wasn’t Dyche thinking that was a natural progression for him?

Taylor's lack of positional sense would be even more obvious at centre-back. We've signed a load of new central defenders, I don't know why we would decide to pick someone out of position instead of a specialist.

I just can’t see Taylor as a centre half, he’s much more effective an overlapping/attacking left wing back playing just in front of 2 or 3 central defenders (probably 3 under VK).

Joe Rodriguez (Jay's brother) has tweeted something like "a hat trick and a win on his birthday would be nice" so hopefully he's fit enough to start.
