Re: Are we going up?
Excellent first half performance. Rode out a tough spell in the second half and then saw the game out pretty comfortably.
We'll face tougher tests than that and I'm sure there'll be plenty of teams who'd like to give these young whippersnappers a bloody nose.
Are we going up? Dunno, but I reckon it's going to be fun finding out.

If the League gets cancelled in the morning due to a pandemic, then yes.. we will win the League on a points per game basis.

Re: Are we going up?
Long, long way to go.
If VK gets the last couple of players that he wants then anything is possible.
I still can’t believe a team full of so many debutants ‘clicked’ like that in their first competitive game.
Absolutely outstanding.

Kompany said as much after the game, we don't have the squad for 46 games.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Fri Jul 29, 2022 10:49 pmThink we're lacking 5-6 new players still but good start

This∆∆
We need a fast striker who will Rio up defences with the ball played into his feet. If we get this then we will go up.
Re: Are we going up?
We will know better after the next two games but it's going to be some ride.
Re: Are we going up?
Not until we get a proper frontman
Re: Are we going up?
Agreed. We need a goalscorer. Barnes was great as disruptor but we need someone running in behind slotting things home.
Re: Are we going up?
After tonight, we definitely need a speedy.. play off the shoulders defenders striker.
Vydra would have enjoyed tonight, but a young upcoming speedy [proven scorer] striker would be a perfect fit for that system.

Re: Are we going up?
Excellent performance against a poor side yet to find their feet.
Not getting carried away but if that is the standards Kompany sets then the future looks bright.
We are short of 4 or 5 players in the following positions
2 strikers, centre half, centre and right side midfield.
I now wish we could keep Cornet as he would love playing in this side
Can't properly judge on a hot summer night in July with a long slog in front of us but the signs look promising and we got our 1st win under our belts, can't ask for anymore than that

Re: Are we going up?
That was impressive
We'll need a few games to gauge the overall quality of the league. We caught Huddersfield completely off-guard. It took them until half time to get any kind of foothold in the game. The more opposing teams see of us the more effective they should become in countering us - so that will be a test
As others have said playing at that intensity requires a bigger squad. Technically gifted, young athletic players will be at a premium as the window draws to a close - but if you are someone like O'Hare for example and you watched game last night - you'd almost certainly want to be a part of it

Re: Are we going up?
I remember 1982/83season.Our talented young side just promoted, after drawing 0-0 in our first game, won the next 2 games 4-1 with some excellent football. The wheels came off and we were relegated. Theres a long way to go
Re: Are we going up?
If Cornet goes and we bring in O'Hare and a striker then there's a really good chance. Still think the current team will struggle to score enough goals.

Re: Are we going up?
Be warned, remember our horse fiddling friends were looking excellent for an auto spot last Christmas and didn’t even make the play offs.
A dream start but teams will quickly try and stop us playing that great football and we’ll have to find ways of beating them, especially at home you’d imagine.

Re: Are we going up?
Far too early to get carried away, a good win at a side that finished 3rd last season though, and that 1st half display was impressive to say the least.
Still need a potent striker as we created plenty last night, but only scored 1 goal, and although Huddersfield offered little, there was always the late feat that they'd nick a leveller.
Depends what business we conduct in the rest of the window, but an encouraging start to a long season, and we've put an early marker down to the rest of the division.
Also great for Kompany to get his 1st win on the board, this should settle everyone down and allay some nerves.
1 down 45 to go.
