On TV it seemed like some Huddersfield fans were booing their team off at half-time, which made it sink in just how good we were in the first half but was still a bit sad after 45 minutes of a long season, new (ish) manager and key players gone or missing.

We thought we heard some booing at half time but it's not always obvious what it is when you are in a noisy away end. Watched it back on TV and they are clearly booing.

Excellent report.

What was with the seats kept empty in the home stands?

Noticed the same at Rovers yesterday on the highlights with a stand empty. Is it simply numbers?

Great report 👍🏻

Ash Hoskin said he’d look forward to reading it, win or lose, so he’ll have enjoyed this read.

I got a lift to the game with a Town fan. He told me they usually keep the bottom tier behind the goal empty unless it’s a big game. Apparently you’re completely exposed to the elements there and nobody wants to sit there unless they’ve no other choice. Bad stadium design I guess.

What the game and performance will do for me is remove that fear that you get going into games. The last two seasons in the PL created this every game, knowing we would be under extreme pressure and probably concede. I have never seen a Burnley team hunt down the opposition player who had the ball so much, and regain possession. With Cullen, Bastien and Brownhill we had three terriers in the middle of the park, and Cork as the "wise head"

That first half performance was mind blowing. I’ve been a mixture of quiet optimism but the selling of McNeil a couple of days before knocked the stuffing out of that. I wasn’t sure what to expect at all, thought it would be cagey and disjointed but was anything but. You’ve said it was a bit Arsenal esq at times I wouldn’t disagree with that, to me it was like when an unknown European team comes to these shores and it’s full of movement, passing and pace….. I also probably recognised about as many players haha!!!

One game against what looked to be a poor team but the performance was very good and brought some relief after seeing a few favourite players sold off in the name of club debt.

That stand at the opposite end was the one that was built some time after the rest of the stadium. The stadium opened for the 1994/95 season but that stand didn't appear until 1998.

Agree with the report. It was an outstanding match from us and I too was thoroughly delighted. UTC!

Always interesting to see it from another pov.

Udders have some very decent fans and their Down the Mac fans forum is always a good read. They not unexpectedly rated us very highly and a number have even suggested we were better than Fulham( apart from the finishing!)who beat them 5-1 in the first home game of last season.

It was a very Town sided view. 🤣

He thought they showed us too much respect. I sort of agreed with him, as impressed as I was. We’re going to face more physical and motivated sides than Huddersfield. Be interesting to see how we cope with that.

My thoughts, too.
To say some players would hardly know each others names, never mind how they play, the way things came together right from the off was amazing.
Hudds weren't brilliant, but you can only beat what's in front of you and i think we'll only get better, a few more expected additions to the squad won't hurt either.
Great stuff.

There was circa 14,000 at Ewood and the empty stand was the away section with the travelling supporters taking a few blocks in there top tier. Didn’t look great for television.

To be fair, I watched the Football League show and most stadiums looked ‘patchy’

Absolutely. They said Millwall was a sellout and there was more seats empty than ones filled.

Finally got round to reading this and really enjoyed it, thanks Tony.

Just one point about Rhodes scoring his first goal against us for Huddersfield nine years ago.. he was playing for Blackburn in 2012 and he scored against us for them on the Turf in December (I think) that year.

He did score for Blackburn in December but had scored for Huddersfield against us in August when they beat us 2-0. It was his last game for Huddersfield before his move to Blackburn.

Interesting list of top scorers in the division that season. The top five were;

30: Jamie Vardy (Leicester)
29: Jordan Rhodes (Huddersfield & Blackburn)
25: Charlie Austin (Burnley)
20: Matěj Vydra (Watford) & Chris Wood (Leicester0

Ah, my point was more that 2012 was 10 years ago, not nine :-)

That's some list. Such a shame Austin 'only' got 25 when he was on 20 in November.

My inability to count.

Austin got his 20th on Boxing Day against Derby but then got injured and I don't think he was really fit again before missing the last few games with appendicitis.

What a season it's turned out to be. 🏆😀
I think most of us can still remember how we felt that day following that performance. For me, it removed a lot of uncertainty of what would become of us following relegation and the changes to personnel and the squad. Some silver lining that cloud had!

Brilliant performance, and a lot of the stars of the season weren't even playing, or Burnley players..
