I don’t think there’s too much to fret about on the Benson front.

I think what we have done is amazing, but we still have quite a few holes in the squad to be genuinely competitive (ie to compete with a few injuries)

All I was really commenting on was the post about how we were not paying what other clubs demanded for their players, when we have to use our limited funds wisely to fill the gaps we have

I think we've done really well so far considering
I don't think we have large holes in the squad, maybe two or three players if Cornet stays and and another couple if he leaves, yes that will be down to the budget we have available but I think we have played an excellent hand so far.

The big question is what are the plans for Lowton, Long, BPF, Norris and to a lesser extent Gudmundsson, four of those are into the last year of their contracts. If they are moved on then there are extras bodies required.

I agree NewClaret. The fee is agreed. Just the detail of what payments when. If he is coming for a medical, it is micro detail.

Not a rumour but if Antwerp are messing us around and we’ve reached the top figure we are prepared to go, I’d be switching my attention to Bowler at Blackpool, championship experience, young, exciting and an asking price of 3-4million, ticks all the boxes for me.
Their owner is a **** linked to Putin so I would not be surprised. Should never pay more than 3mio for Benson. He is a gamble and there are other players like Selemani available for less and more proven.

Be very surprised if any of these will play. Lets respect them as loyal servants and give them every help in finding a new club so they can extend their career. Hopefully their agents are on it already. I suggested on Friday that some of the brighter U-23's could take up some places on the bench. Just look at what Costelloe did in his first game. We have Richardson and Dodgson that can become part of the active squad

After watching the game on Friday, it is clear why we are looking at players like Benson and O'Hare as theoretically they could play as part of the front 2 dropping off, or part of the 2 more forward thinking midfielders. Flexibility is key here. At the moment in our squad, we only have JBG and Cornet who could play that type of role (and any U23s like Costelloe). I think VK would prefer to bring in 3 who are reliable who he can rotate through a gruelling season rather than rely on Max and JBG who let's face it, are made of glass.

I think the plan is to move them on tbh (maybe not the keepers)

What a morning of mixed messages with this deal and it’s only 10.30. That sounds promising though.

Out of the blue signings mentioned yesterday by yourself?

Perhaps all these new names are smokescreens to those out of the blue?

I really trust Kompany, he is obviously a deep thinker about the game and ok money plays a part but people want to play for him and be part of what he is trying to do.
I genuinely feel like a kid looking forward to the season after a long boring football starved summer dreaming about James skinning a full back and firing in a screamer or a pin point cross, watching Dobson collecting a pass and charging through midfield or Noble terrorising defenders. Bring it on.

Been very mixed messages on Benson over the last 24 hours but I'm more confident than not that a deal has been struck. No other info at the moment other than an article is written, in fact was written some time ago.

‘Benson is understood to have had interest from clubs in France but a move to England appealed and Burnley manager Vincent Kompany is understood to be a big draw.’

No way will David Moyes let Dawson go. He has been outstanding for WHU. The rock of their defence and a handy goal scorer. We should have got him 5 years ago before he went to Watford

I recon that VK has promised all these players a shot at the premier league if we get promoted. They obviously believe in him and his system. And the ones that don’t want to play in the Championship. Sod them, spoilt brats they are.

Just a warning to our fans who don’t like ‘one footed’ players. Although he plays on the right wing, Benson is (imo) more left-footed than McNeil.

Doesn’t bother me one bit but best be forewarned if you are easily upset...

Sky reporting West Ham have made contact re:Max but would prefer a loan.
I don’t expect they would throw Dawson into the deal or that he would want to drop a division after having such a good season.
Following earlier discussions I also read that Liverpool want £10m for Phillips.

I think this is to be expected. The most important thing in my mind is the type of player we are looking to attract.

It’s depressing to think who we might’ve been going for had we stayed in the Prem & not had the debt to repay. Arguably would have retained some players that might not have best suited Kompany’s system though, I suppose.

Just a warning to our fans who don’t like ‘one footed’ players. Although he plays on the right wing, Benson is (imo) more left-footed than McNeil.

Doesn’t bother me one bit but best be forewarned if you are easily upset...
In the following link it shows him going past players by shifting the ball quickly from his left to his right foot.

It also shows him smashing two goals in with his right foot which I don't recall McNeill ever doing.
