You sure it's Kompany that wants/needs the money?Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 8:29 pmIts not a choice between Barnes and Cornet or between Jay and Cornet. Its a choice between Cornet and around £17m to fund a replacement striker and winger and I reckon given the choice Kompany would rather have the £17m
Id love if we could keep Cornet and spend £10+ million on a striker and/or winger but I dont think thats an option unfortunately. Therefore providing Kompany was given most of the money to fund additional players Id back Kompany to get more out of £12-£15m than we'd get out of Cornet this season

Re: Cornet’s Instagram
If he’s likely to be sold, there’s little point getting a couple of games out of him. He’ll be playing at the expense of someone who will be part of the squad this season and we’ll benefit in the medium and longer term to give the remaining players the extra opportunity to bed in.
That said, I don’t rate him as highly as others. He could well take this division by storm, but it’s starting to look telling that he’s still here and that nobody appears willing to pay the the release clause.
I predict he’ll go, but for significantly less than £17.5m.

I think Kompany is blameless in this mess it’s something he’s inherited & if you could sit down with him & ask would he have preferred the departed players to have remained he’d say yes obviously the paymasters above have taken that control away from him, I hope the bloke succeeds he’s a new manager starting out & seems a decent bloke.

Nope, I think firstly our owners want/need to cash in on our assets. Secondly I think Cornet would want to play Premier League football if he has the opportunity rather than stay on at Burnley. But thirdly and finally given the straight choice between Cornet and £12-£15m to spend how he see's fit I think Kompany would take the money and that would be my personal preference.
Cornet would be great in the Championship but a £17m player should be one of the best 4 or 5 players in the league and should be an 8 or 9 out of 10 pretty much every game and whilst Cornet is a top player IMO I dont think he's at that level

Nobody is willing to pay the 17.5m UPFRONT, plenty are willing to pay up to 25m in instalments, 9 goals in 25 games says plenty of teams want him.agreenwood wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 8:54 pmIf he’s likely to be sold, there’s little point getting a couple of games out of him. If he was consistent we’d be talking about £50m plus.

Cornet reportedly wants European football, only West Ham offer this, but they don't want to pay all the money upfront.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 9:02 pmNope, I think firstly our owners want/need to cash in on our assets. Looks like West Ham are closest, with a £25m package and the prospect of European football ( even if it is only the Conference League ).
Let's just sell him and use the money to buy two three or four players to strengthen the squad.

Re: Cornet’s Instagram
The problem, I think, is that there is a very narrow selection of potential buyers. He's flat out not good enough for a title/top 4 chasing side. At £17.5m he's verging on being too expensive (for what he offers) to PL bottom feeders, foreign leagues would probably struggle to match his wages, and for the small handful of PL teams left where he is worth taking a punt on, they are also looking at value in foreign leagues (indeed how we found value in him by looking to France) while also having to deal with their own financial fair play considerations. I tend to agree with DA that viewed with calm sobriety it's probably in everyone's interest that the sale happens, but it's not a Weghorst situation where you need to get the c*nt out the door at all cost. If a loan-to-buy is done, it needs to be with an obligation to buy, not merely an option. We need a guaranteed fee, even if it comes in instalments.agreenwood wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 8:54 pmIf he’s likely to be sold, there’s little point getting a couple of games out of him. It’s very telling that Cornet is still here now despite a fairly modest release clause. It’s fast turning into a game of poker that clubs expect we’ll be so desperate to sell that we blink first and lower our demands. Given the fees accepted for Pope and Collins I suspect we will.

I can't believe that some people don't think Max would be a great player for us in the championship and suggesting he offers little etc.
If we were linked ithe a player that scored an average of 1 in 2 from the Belgian league everybody would be going insane.
Look at the excitement Benson is creating and yet his record is fairly poor.
Cornet averaged about 1 in 2 in the best league in the world playing for a poor defensive team that created very little and ultimately got relegated.
I doubt very much that he will be here by the end of the window but if he stayed he scores 20+ goals.

Re: Cornet’s Instagram
Agreed I too have concerns about his robustness for the Championship and that £25M is close to twice what we paid for him a year ago. That's how the economics of the club will need to work going forward, sell the players when they're worth top dollar and work around their loss to the team. Even if paid in five installments, we can factor the sale as with Chris Wood's transfer and trouser >£17.5M release fee the week after.lakedistrictclaret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 9:09 pmLooks like West Ham are closest, with a £25m package...

Re: Cornet’s Instagram
No point of Cornet wanting European football when all the bat room physios and sports scientists on here will have you know that he’s not fit enough to play two games a week.
Re: Cornet’s Instagram
Can't imagine Cornet staying and it looks as if West Ham are
the most likely destination as they can offer European foorball
and look as if they will match Evertons' offer of 25m over a period of time.
Pace should be happy and it'll hopefully release some more funds for Kompany to bring
in another 2 or 3 to improve the team/squad.
If you look at the players we've sold this year - Wood 25m, Pope 10m, Collins 20m. McNeil 20m
and now Cornet 25m in addition to the ones who've left for frees and we 're no longer paying big salaries
for then we should be relatively stable financially.
Not sure how much we've spent so far but it's a fraction of the total amount we've got coming in.
I'm looking forward to another 2 or 3 coming in and us having a reasonable squad for
what will be a difficult season given the number of games we're likely to be playing.
It's a huge turnover and almost unbelievable when you consider we might have 10 or more
new faces.

Re: Cornet’s Instagram
Vaguely remember Kompany floating the idea of 13-14 new faces. Add that number to what we at present have left from last season: Jay, Barnes, Brownhill, Cork, Taylor, Roberts, Westwood, JBG, Long, Lowton, you're getting close to a 25 man squad there excluding the U23's filling the squad at present, so assuming the sale of Cornet, and perhaps Lowton moving on, another four through the door seems totally realistic.

Re: Cornet’s Instagram
Forgot Norris and BPF, too. I was happy for a moment until I remembered that.
Re: Cornet’s Instagram
Well you can add Pope , Tarks and Mee to that. Maxwel was the best finisher we had last season. He missed a few but scored some superb goals. He is so quick to react and get his shots in. Far better in that respect than any other player we had. OK he didn't perhaps contribute totally to the team.but I can name one or two others that didnt. I would think he might enjoy playing with this exciting young team and show us just what he can do. Alas its unlikely as the management would appear to be trying hard to offload him.fungus_the_bogeyman wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 9:56 pmHe offered a lot more goals than anybody else did and if it wasn’t for him, we’d have been down by Christmas.

Errr isn’t it paying off the debt? It sucks, but I thought we all knew this. We are getting back on an even keel hopefully and reinvesting a small portion back into a young, talented players with sell on value to sustain the club. After my initial resentment subsided, I’m feeling positive about this … and the players we are targeting are a hell of a lot more exciting to watch.Iloveyoubrady wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 9:46 pm“Bring cash in then we’ll have 4 good players at this level.”

It’s quite clear that nobody wants him unless it’s on the cheap , if anyone was keen on him and were afraid he would sign for someone else he would already have been bought for the release clause.
Let’s just forget the time wasters and integrate him back into the squad as VK said would happen this week ready for the Luton match .

Everton, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, WHU. All after him.
WHI in Europe and looks like he fancies that. If the price can be agreed, he'll be gone very soon.

We’ve already brought £50 million in and spent 10?
Where is the money going..?
McNeil 15m (20 inc bonus)
Collins 21m (possibly 30 inc bonus)
Pope 11m (possibly 15 inc bonus)
Total: 47m
Minus % owed to Stoke and Charlton of profits, let’s say 5m so that’s now 42m
We still owed 6/9m to Stoke for Collins, so if we are being wise then you’d match future incoming cash flows with these to avoid any issues (the same with Lyon re Cornet btw)
So that leaves 36/33m
Incomings: Cullen 3m, McNally 2m, Twine 4m, Bastien 650k, Egan Riley 350k, Muric 3m, Vitinho 1m, Benson 3m (might sign today)
Total 17m + agent fees (maybe around 10% would be an assumption) so that’s around 19m now, oh and I didn’t include loan fees for Maatsen and THB.
So as you can see the ‘spend’ is actually far greater than your 10m and received is technically far less than your 50m.
Books need to be balanced upon relegation, some debts are likely being paid, as Kompany said, its about getting the club healthy again - but at least let’s try and be accurate!

Re: Cornet’s Instagram
Very bizarre to say a player who scored 9 in 26 in a position that wasn’t his best, being asked for most of it to play with his back to goal with balls being pelted in the air, offered little.
Despite his tendency to pick up knocks and drift in and out of
games, he offered far more to the team in terms of attacking output than any of our other strikers or wingers.
He’s a class act and, used correctly, would tear up the championship. Having said that, I very much doubt he will be here at the end of the window.

RVClaret don't forget the 12/13 left over from the wood sale after buying Weghorst to add to the total of incoming cash that still leaves 30/35 million in the pot, and that's not counting the 3 or 4 million we're saving in wages each month
Re: Cornet’s Instagram
Like I said, some money will undoubtedly be going towards paying off debts and balancing books, my assumption is the Wood money is part of the 20m paid off the MSD loan that we know about. 3/4m saving in wages is maybe accurate but you are also forgetting the clubs income has been slashed by around 70% this season with a reduction in revenue of around 75m expected, that reduction will be by around another 10m if we don’t go up this season.AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 5:54 amRVClaret don't forget the 12/13 left over from the wood sale after buying Weghorst to add to the total of incoming cash that still leaves 30/35 million in the pot, and that's not counting the 3 or 4 million we're saving in wages each month
Re: Cornet’s Instagram
There are so many things quoted in this thread that I could reply to, but to keep it simple. We should keep Cornet.
One game stuck out last season, Palace at home, along with his interview after the game. Where he states ‘I didn’t think about it, I just hit it’ or words to that effect. He is instinctive, sharp, pacey, clever and boasts a lot of qualities that not many in the squad do.
You can talk about his work rate and would it be enough, which may I add, he had enough under Dyche for him to trust him, you can talk about the money coming in and signing 3/4 players, you can talk about his physicality and the possibility of him getting injured. But in reality, none of us know the full outcome should be leave, or stay.
One thing that can’t be argued, is he is a great player, seems to have great attitude, and we’re lucky to have him!

The club as a game plan and a business plan and in that plan is the sale of Cornet and he has to go for the future of Burnley FC.
As others have said he is lazy and inconsistent and we can put his money to better use than having him hanging around.

Re: Cornet’s Instagram
I believe that the sale of our players is much less about the money we receive for them and much more about reducing the wage bill. I have no doubt that Cornet will be one of our highest earners regardless of any relegation wage reduction clause. These clauses might knock a % of the wage down for our players but they will still be amongst the top earners in the division.
When you look at the teams that have struggled the most after relegation from the Premier League, it is the high wage bill that has caused the biggest issue. Moving Cornet on is likely our biggest priority. I am glad to see we are holding out for a good fee though.

Its so infuriating to see money coming in from the sale of the best players being used to pay off the debt. VK has taken on an enormous Project here replacing 20 million players (and sold cheap by the way) with 3 Million players. If he pulls this off - and I hope he does - his stock will be higher than mount Everest.

Re: Cornet’s Instagram
If selling Cornet allows Kompany to sign another 3/4 players then so be it, we are still short in certain areas, and will need to bolster our squad for a sustained promotion push.
Clearly through choice or design we want all the big earners off the books, and as long as we get decent money for them, and then bring in replacements I'm happy to trust VK to mould us into a competitive side.

Re: Cornet’s Instagram
I think that came from Top Claret this morning.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 8:17 amThe description of Cornet as ‘lazy’ is total and utter rubbish - I honestly don’t know what some people are watching. Very strange how such a lazy player is attracting any PL interest at all.

You also said "he doesn't work hard enough". Mad that Dyche played him really considering that

Re: Cornet’s Instagram
And he doesn't - not in the way we played under Dyche and definitely not in the way it looks as though we will play under Kompany. That's completely different than suggesting a player is lazy. I just don't think he's enough of a team player.claretcarrot93 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 9:41 amYou also said "he doesn't work hard enough". Mad that Dyche played him really considering that
