Police
When are the police going to stop treating football fans like animals? They were an absolute disgrace under the Culvert yesterday after the game. Can’t believe how many I heard telling people to f**k off. People were being assaulted and charged by police horses for no reason at all. Surely they are there to remain calm rather than cause problems? Where I was it was Burnley and Blackpool fans v the police.

I'm sure the police response doesn't always help, but let's not pretend; there will have been hundreds of "fans" behaving like thuggish, loutish idiots yesterday. I'd focus on eradicating this first before we end up back with the horror stories of yesteryear

Every single game there is trouble under the culvert, because that is where the opposition fans go to get home, and outside the pubs there wait those of our fans who all dress exactly the same
The police know that as well as we do, which is why they move everyone along quickly, and that is why anyone sensible just tries to get through there and back to their homes and cars as quickly as possible

I saw what I imagine is the spillover from this on the old Thompson Centre car park. Police were quite aggressive but the mostly young lads were not following the order to move on, hanging around and just generally being a bit antagonistic.

Pretty much every bit of trouble I've seen on the way out of the ground (thankfully rare) is between the pubs and the Culvert, and it only doesn't get out of control because of the police presence there

Yes, it's not remotely close to every single game - that was my point and I didn't think saying that was helpful.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 9:46 amPretty much every bit of trouble I've seen on the way out of the ground (thankfully rare) is between the pubs and the Culvert, and it only doesn't get out of control because of the police presence there

I was walking back to the town centre after the match and the police were escorting Blackpool fans, presumably to the station. All of a sudden I was surrounded by Burnley fans goading the Blackpool fans and obviously spoiling for a fight. If the police hadnt been there it would have been chaos.I am a partially sighted 73 year old so it wasnt a pleasant experience. Some of the Burnley fans were just out of nappies but giving it large. If some of the Blackpool fans had attacked them they would have sh*t their pants, but because they were in a big group they thought they were big and hard.Good job the police and police horses were there.

Re: Police
Sounds like they’ve done a good job on that occasion. I’m under no illusions at all that there of plenty of idiots on the match who cause trouble. Fair play to the police for dealing with them. My issue is when they treat normal people like criminals just because they’ve been on a football match. The only people causing any tension where I was were the police.Jimscho wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 9:59 amI was walking back to the town centre after the match and the police were escorting Blackpool fans, presumably to the station.

I walked under the culvert after the match and the Burnley fans were like a pack of wolves that hadn't been fed for a month and even threatened a Blackpool fan with a young child.
Some of the Blackpool fans looked frightened to death and were being protected by police and horses on the other side of the fence across from the bingo place. The knuckle draggers from Burnley were out in force yesterday and the police had numerous video cameras on everything that was going on.
The knuckle heads need to remember what happened to the Newcastle fans last year and the two years plus they were all given and if you are caught and there is video evidence you will be paying a visit to Her Majesty's Prison Service.

Re: Police
I’m afraid this was always going to happen this year. You’ve gradually seen a build up of poor behaviour inside, and outside the stadium over the last few years with some of our fans.
Combine that with so many derby games, teams we’ve not played for years, grounds we’ve not visited for years and the loonies were always going to have a field day.
Best part of 5k going to Wigan next week, and PNE on the horizon I don’t thing it’s going to get any better..

Sums up most young "lads" at football these days. Give it the big one but if it actually came down to having to fight they'd run a mile. Still I imagine it's not nice getting caught up in it if you're elderly or have kids with you.Jimscho wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 9:59 amI was walking back to the town centre after the match and the police were escorting Blackpool fans, presumably to the station.

I walked through early and was sat on a bus at the station when the Blackpool mob was charging back towards the town centre on the roads.
They didn't get far like.
I was a little surprised to see them being escorted to the train station with the strikes on.

Didn't see the police response, but some of our fans behaviour generally yesterday was shocking.
Booing the knee, jeering our own players, attempting to intimidate/brawl with random Blackpool fans inside and out of the stadium.
Embarrassing.

Some bloated donut Burnley fan was ready to get out of his car and fight me and my brother on Todmorden Road for making eye contact with him when crossing the road on foot. He started heckling us out of the window, asking what our problem was - totally unprovoked. I was with my four year old boy. Two minutes earlier a woman with her young child was shouting ‘smart c*nts’ at some lads in a stationary car whilst getting into their faces and filming them with her phone.

Re: Police
Moral is low in the Police force, as it is in most public sector workers, not am excuse but it contributes to negativity. It is all so familiar; happened in the late 70’s/ 80’s things will be allowed to go so far then a series of draconian measures will be introduced, that effect everyone.
The muppets that need to be part of the pack have not got the mental capacity to realise (if they a genuine supporters) they will have to live with their actions for years to come. Safe standing is little more than a joke when sheep cannot behave when they are supposed to be seated. I can see some form of barrier returned if it continues (and there is little evidence its not a downward spiral). Then the same numpties will be crying about their ‘rights’ and being penned in like animals.
It all comes down to society and sadly it is clear that attitudes in the young have shifted massively in recent years. The feeling of optimism has been drained from the North West and is being reflected in the young… we saw it in the seventies and unchecked it will just get worse, not better if indeed history is repeating.

Re: Police
This kind of behaviour is definitely on the up, and gates will be hit if it gets worse. These days, most lower league clubs couldn't survive on 1980s attendances.
If we don't watch out, we'll end up handing over the game we love to the chavs and thugs. Lifetime bans are required along with banning orders for the town centre on match days. Also, there has to be a clamp down on the culvert lurkers who come out of the woodwork for games like this.

Let’s not pretend that all the trouble was from Burnley fans.
Blackpool fans were chucking coins in to the cricket field end by all accounts
Also - I can’t understand why away supporters that aren’t on coaches walk out of the ground wearing team colours?! Yeah in an ideal world they should be able to but after a heated contest and back and forth like we’ve seen in the away end I just think you’re asking for trouble.
I’d never wear a claret shirt outside an away ground, just takes one plonker to see red…

Personally think this is where the police can learn the most from yesterday, too much concentration on young lads in the ground throwing out a few verbals and gesticulations but in reality if it came to it wouldn’t do anything, where as after the game there was a large amount of Middle Aged men who 99% will have just sat in the pubs and been allowed to stroll into the streets after the game without any police presence at all. A real lack of intelligence that needs to be improved if they want to avoid similar situations throughout the season.

People seem to have forgotten (or are too young) to remember Blackpool fans have a history of despicable behaviour at Turf. The only thing that surprises me is that the lessons have been forgotten by the club. The club have made a rod for their own backs doing away with the no man’s land and they will pay a heavy price more than once this season, I fear… we have several derbies and clubs like Millwall, Stoke etc. too. Anyone who visited the Victoria Ground will remember being pelted from behind all through matches; I don’t see a three foot fence cutting it.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 12:21 pmLet’s not pretend that all the trouble was from Burnley fans.

While I'm not condoning the awful actions of a sizeable minority, it's hardly surprising that the younger generations are displaying such anger, aggression and moral inadequacy given the recent and current climate.
I'm afraid as a country, collectively, we're reaping what we've sown, and it will most likely get a lot worse than this.
History is repeating itself.

& You call me ignorant without you knowing the answer to your own question, well let me tell you the people you have mentioned in the 2 incidents I'm not a betting man but if I was to wager the peoples behaviours were influenced by some sort of substances which is becoming 1 of the major reasons behind all this disorder we are seeing.

Re: Police
If people really think the Blackpool fans were some raging hooligan mob they really need to get out more . It was full of families kids and all sorts ( as well as few gobsh1te types ) and they looked terrified if anything . Apart from a bit of chanting threats and the old bill pushing a few people back

Re: Police
In the 70s and 80s it was pretty much volenti non fit iniuria going to football matches. By the 80s the crowds were small and just about everybody going was either looking for a fight or knew that there was the possibility of getting caught up in one. Thank god we have moved on from that and everything must be done to stamp out any signs of a resurgence.

Re: Police
The no mans land needs to be bigger, the attempt to add some netting to the seats next to the divide actually made things worse as it gave fans something to stand on.
The longer term answer is to probably replace the wooden seats in the home section with plastic ones, the seats are slightly smaller meaning the same amount of seats in a smaller space this can allow a larger gap between home and away fans.
Short term answer would be to have stewards inside the home section of the divide in an attempt to stop fans getting to each other but really think the small section in the home end will be left empty if this continues for games where the away section is full.

Re: Police
The home games before the world cup break with away followings above 2,000, which wouldn't allow the away section to be sectioned off nearest the divide:-
Norwich (decent away support) is a Friday so should be fine.
Stoke (hit & miss this season) is a Wednesday night, so again should be okay unless they go on a big run.
Blackburn game is the big issue but the club have time to put a plan in place which allows all the season ticket holders to retain access to the CFS but limit flashpoint areas, not every seat is taken in the CFS so the safety team must have thought of a scenario that can work.
Loads of games in the second block of fixtures which could be problem games.

How would you know you were sat in your Villa on the Algarve?
