Re: Today's footie 21/8
Similar to yesterday. Tripps deserved that red. No attempt to get the ball. But the ref bottled it when asked to review it. How is it fair to completely take a player out, on purpose, when they are through and about to slide a player in, only for the punishment to be a yellow and a free kick in an innocuous area??
I'm all for hard tackling. But that's just cheating

"I'm stealing a f***ing living here."?
Re: Today's footie 21/8
Clipped him on the shin and was pulling out rather than lunging through the man. Not knee height and comments like "both feet off the ground" normally implies it was a two-footed challenge which it wasn't.

If I get assaulted I don't check if the studs were up
He took him out with no attempt to get the ball. Its violent conduct. They applied the wrong rule on the VAR check

Re: Today's footie 21/8
City and in particular Fernandhino have made the cynical foul an important part of their armory - they can have no complaints that Tripps stayed on at all
Re: Today's footie 21/8
The top of Trippiers foot caught KDB's knee, talking out of your backside saying studs were up, the studs made 0 contact

Re: Today's footie 21/8
Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.
Trippier was reckless and as soon as he left the ground was not in control. The challenge didn’t carry excessive force but it certainly endangered the safety of DeBruyne who was travelling at some speed. Crazy to overturn that in my opinion.

VAR, the ref, commentary team and ex pros including soft ass Lineker said it wasn't a red.
Re: Today's footie 21/8
It's a cynical foul not violent conduct, a trip is not violent conduct, violent would be studs to knee.Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 6:11 pmIf I get assaulted I don't check if the studs were up

Re: Today's footie 21/8
So despite his studs not being up he can catch someone at knee height - not physically possible unless KDB is already on the floor. No one said the studs made contact so what are you talking about

Re: Today's footie 21/8
Red card all day, same as the Blackpool one yesterday. Zero attempt to play the ball.

Re: Today's footie 21/8
Zero attempt to play the ball does not mean red card, a shirt pull or cynical foul to stop the counter attack has been a yellow card in the game forever. Re: Today's footie 21/8
It's violent conduct. If you're not trying to play the ball, what are you doing? Might as well just punch him. Cynical, shitty fouls that can easily injure someone. Good to see the ref yesterday get it right. The aussie got it wrong today.

Re: Today's footie 21/8
Any truth in the rumour that one of the add ons for Pope is 20 million if Newcastle take any points of City?
Re: Today's footie 21/8
I’m surprised that people are saying that was a red. A yellow all day long for me. Pope is having another good game.

The thing that saved Trippier was the minimal contact and the fact he caught KDB with the top of his foot and not the studs.

Honestly you lot. If Trips had done that while playing for us, you’d have been raging if he had got a red.

Never a red card. Pretty basic stuff. Very surprised to see some on here that think otherwise.

Called a professional foul, happens all the time.quoonbeatz wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 6:25 pmStopping the counter attack still means you have to attempt to win the ball. Otherwise its a free for all.

Pope is a top keeper, pleased he’s started off so well and will surely be in the World Cup squad if he keeps this up.

Re: Today's footie 21/8
There seems to be a lot of confusion here on the difference between violent conduct and a professional foul.

There's nothing in the laws about professional fouls.

Pope. MOM for the second game running. Bargain of the Century that lad was.Conroysleftfoot wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 6:23 pmAny truth in the rumour that one of the add ons for Pope is 20 million if Newcastle take any points of City?
I'm convinced they only bought Wood thinking it woukd send us down.

He is a class act.
Interestingly though, given recent conversations, every long kick immediately relinquished possession to City.

Re: Today's footie 21/8
I disagree with the ex-pros, commentators, officials....
But its a simple application of the rules for me:
Was there a genuine attempt to play the ball?
Yes: Was it serious foul play?
No: What would the decision have been if you completely take the ball out of the picture. i.e. is it off the ball violent conduct?

Violent conduct?! Jesus wept, he tripped him up. Hardly crime of the century. Yellow card all day.

When you last tripped someone up did you lunge at them and catch them on the knee?
No. I didn't think so

Shay Given and Micah Richards both also think the red card was right to be overturned

That's thing with professional fouls, the cynical trips and blocks are a, rightly, a yellow card. Big difference between lunging in like trippier or taking a wild swing like the Blackpool lad. They are reds.

Re: Today's footie 21/8
Brady had a similar one for us away at Huddersfield a few seasons ago. He was just trying to stop an attack but because he was so far away from the ball and player he had to lunge recklessly and was rightly dismissed.

Exactly. It's not difficult to see why some should be red, and some yellow

Re: Today's footie 21/8
Todays wasn’t a red though? As the ref and VAR ref agreed in addition to every person commentating on the game. Only a few armchair softies think it should be.quoonbeatz wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 6:58 pmYou don't trip someone up at knee height.

Re: Today's footie 21/8
I think the trips are fine, the reds are the studs down the back of the ankle or high lunging with the studs up. This one was a kick (with the top of the foot) on the knee, minimal force.Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 7:11 pmExactly. It's not difficult to see why some should be red, and some yellow
