Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I was thinking that Barnes may enjoy the opportunity to be part of the deal to bring Obafemi to us - he could move to Swansea in return, perhaps on loan with us propping up his wages so he can move closer to his roots in the South West, though not sure Swansea would want that or not. He is a proven goal scorer at a high level, just not a good fir for us now.Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 7:59 amCould Barnes leave today?

Kev Long wouldn't be a disaster in this division, at least as back-up.

Sorry to reply to my own post but just to add none of his goals were penalties.Goody1975 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 8:20 amObafemi last season in the league.
Signed early in the season and only started one of his first twelve league games, scoring one goal. He got a run in the side from the beginning of Feb and started nineteen of his last twenty games scoring eleven goals.
So:-
12 (11) - 1 Goal
20 (1) - 11 Goals
Make his stats look a lot better than 32 games 12 Goals.

Swansea play possession bases football also, Barnes doesn’t fit their way of playing either but worth a go

It's a shame Dyche didn't get the Sunderland job, we could've made a fortune in transfer fees from Barnes, Lowton, Long, Gudmundsson.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Not sure Obafemi is exactly clinical from what I am reading, also sounds like his first touch is ghastly - but raw pace and despite those deficiencies that Swansea fans identify with him, he still notched at a ratio of better than 1 in 2 on a goals to minutes ratio. Sounds very Andre Gray in fairness, who was hardly the silkiest of footballers but his pace alone was a match winner at this level.
It provides a really good alternative to the False 9 that we play with Jay. If that current Plan A isn't working, we can fully change it up by playing an off the shoulder type to stretch the defence. We've already seen on occasion this season that our possession game/probing won't unlock every defence sufficiently so I think it's a really good idea to have an option like this (and we all know that Barnes is incapable of this).

Surprised you didn't include Rodriguez in your list given how critical you have been of him.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
My only concern is the last 4-5 players have a close similarity in playing styles, and now that Josh is playing further up the field he is added to this pack of players who can attack from deep-dont forget we have Twine to come back too.
Meanwhile in defence we have an outstanding CH is THB, a left back playing alongside him and Egan Riley and McNally do not appear considered to be automatic starters. If we signed no one else but a CH I would be a very happy claret

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Obafemi, is he really worth the 10/12 Million Swansea are rumoured to want for him, I'd say 5 tops plus add on's if we go up and decent sell in percentage, they paid around 1.6 million for him and in a season or so he's hardly ripped up any tree's, he looks raw and is tiny at 5 ft 7, I can't see how he's gone up in value by x8 in a year, surley there is better player's with better value abroad like from where most of our buys have come from

I suppose McNally, Long and Thomas would all be in consideration so its not like we only have two centre halves (and one of those is a converted left back)

Obafemi would be perfect in our current system. His pace alone would tie defenders to him and with us now giving free rein to the rest of the team to get into the box he can drag them away and create even more space. As Jay has been doing by dropping deeper. Really hope this comes off.

Whilst some cover at centre-half and maybe a forward would be nice, with 14 players already signed this summer then today doesn't quite have the same feel as previous years, when we'd managed some old lad from Stoke (or Dale Stephens) with the hours ticking down.

Brownhill to Liverpool?
They're in desperate need of a CM with Henderson joining the long injury list.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Not sure about that. Think it's easy to underestimate Long. He reads the game fairly well and is a technically good defender (he worked with Dyche for nearly 10 years) and is a good athlete - good in the air (which we need - THB is a bit vulnerable in the air and the common theme with almost all the top end teams in the league is that they'll be more physical than us) and deceptively quick - certainly at this level, he'd be perfectly comfortable with the high line that we play. Perhaps he's not as good as Kompany would like with ball at feet (I always thought that when he deputised for Tarkowski, we missed Tarks more in possession than defensively), but again our perception of him is slightly skewed by the fact virtually all his football for us has been at Premier League level where that is magnified. It might be that compromising slightly on the ability of one player of the team to play that way optimises the effectiveness of the team as a whole.
In an ideal world we'd bring in a centre back and Long would probably go to make way. I still think a centre half is our biggest single priority today. But it might be that Long's injury has actually scuppered that - we can't move him out. If he's in the squad, I'd be seriously contemplating him as a better option alongside THB than Taylor.

For people that want a new starting CB in today, what are you doing with Taylor?
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
CF is a priority over a CB. Imagine if Jay got injured for a serious length of time? We'd be fairly screwed.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Interesting one. Firstly that depends if there is a buyer for him and secondly will a player of his experience / quality be happy being benched in the Championship.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I don't think Taylor suits our style or system.
It's not the defending out of position, but he looks so slow, and his passing is really poor compared to those around him.
I always rated him in the Prem, one of the first names on the sheet, but he's had a poor start to the season. If we could get a replacement I'd cash in, but do we have any interest.

In all fairness he's played the SD way for a long time and he's taking a bit of time to adjust to the new system and the new position. Bring in a CH, (Hopefully give KL a chance) put him at LB again and he'll be fine. Good player IMHO.

That would make it a really good window and probably most we can expect today. Can't see Swansea letting Obefaml go on the cheap, they'll hold out for more than we are prepared to pay.
