This might force a change, which wouldn’t be the worst thing
Re: West Brom v Burnley Match Thread
We’ve played better than this, but these games will test us. We can’t walk over every team this season. Patience is needed sometimes.

Roberts injured in a fair tackle. Coming back on but HT might do for him.
HT. 0-1 how I’ll never know

About the worst half we've played this season, against probably the best we've faced.
Need to keep the ball and, use it.

We are standing too far off them and letting them have easy possession in our final third. VK will sort it I'm sure at HT.

Re: West Brom v Burnley Match Thread
We should be 3 down. We are getting hammered. Point blank header at Muric. Wallace hitting the post. A number of other chances.
Don't get me wrong, I'll happily take it if we get pounded all 2nd half and it stays this way.

Re: West Brom v Burnley Match Thread
Lowton would do wonders shutting them out down our right, Roberts struggling

We’ve been poor by recent standards.
Nice to see some solid defending though…. A bit of backs to the wall defending will serve us well as the season progresses.
We’re winning, when we shouldn’t be, all good for the learning curve.

Been way too sloppy with the passing. Needs to be more incisive and snappy.Buxtonclaret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 8:50 pmAbout the worst half we've played this season, against probably the best we've faced.

He's been quiet today but he's also had Roberts playing a mare behind him. Really don't like criticising players especially repeatedly but I think he needs benching for Lowton or Vitinho and a change of setup- two wing backs with both Cork and Cullen dropping back depending on the attacking side.
Thought JBG was unlucky to lose his place, best player first half Vs Millwall so I would be happy to see him on, or Benson if he can replicate his own Millwall performance.

We have been poor in possession but we look like scoring every time Tella gets the ball.
Re: West Brom v Burnley Match Thread
Egan Riley on for Roberts and JBG for Maatsen with Vitinho reverting to LB
If we play like that second half we’ll lose them game. Our luck will run out if we keep giving them chances

Just don't understand why their keeper is still on the pitch. What does he have to do to be sent off?

Our closing down in the final third as been criminal, how they haven't notched is baffling, need a good half time Vinnie chastising utc

Re: West Brom v Burnley Match Thread
Roberts looked a lot better playing with JBG, whether that's just due to familiarity who knows.
Conversely Vitinho looks far better suited to the left, I'd even switch him to LB second half, as Maatsen is looking lost. 2 changes for the price of one.
Still winning when we are so out of touch is no bad thing, so long as we find ourselves second half we'll be reet.

Re: West Brom v Burnley Match Thread
Never been so glad to hear the half time whistle.
West Brom are a better side than I thought but a lot of their possession has been as a result of our bad passing and lack of bite in midfield. The marking wasn’t great either.
Still a half time lead and hopefully a good team talk from VK will lead to a better display in the second half

Sorry but these stats don’t show us getting hammered, we’re not dominating them like we have other teams but we’re not getting hammered at all.
And this stat is the most important one right?

Re: West Brom v Burnley Match Thread
Id consider us fortunate to be level never mind winning but im not complaining. We've been poor tonight but fair play to West Brom who put us under pressure from the get go. They play a not to dissimilar style to us and have played some good football.
Hopefully we can step it up second half and punish West Brom for wasting all their good play and chances. On a side note who the fck is Nick Pope, we've got Muric in the middle of our goals

Re: West Brom v Burnley Match Thread
They got rid of the double punishment (red card and penalty) a long time ago, if the defender/GK attempts to get the ball and concedes a penalty they cannot be red carded.

Think they changed the rule so if a penalty is given the ref only gives a yellow. Double jeopardy rule.
Re: West Brom v Burnley Match Thread
If the exact same thing happens outside the area then he’s off, the point is we got a penalty which is punishment enough according to the rules now, so it’s only a yellowSilkyskills1 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 8:53 pmJust don't understand why their keeper is still on the pitch. Re: West Brom v Burnley Match Thread
I’d bring Churlinov on for Vitinho.
They are weak on the counter, let’s go for the second and pray we don’t concede rather than try and hold on for another 45. Get a second and their heads will drop and the crowd will shut up.
Muric has been phenomenal.

I think we have lacked energy today. They have played really well.
Maatson looks uninterested .
We need to be better second half.

JBG is warming up so I take it he’ll come on for Roberts who’s injured or Vitinho who’s been sleepingspt_claret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 8:55 pmWould agree. If ever same was for Egan-Riley to stake a claim it's surely this

We've been shite, but we're winning and we've been here before over the last 10 years.
I'll have a bit of that thanks.

We've been second best by a long way in that half. We've moved the ball too slowly and given a lot of sloppy balls away.
West Brom look a good side, mix it up well and are very direct.
Somehow we're robbing them 1-0 but we need to find a bit more guile this half if we want the points imo.

Re: West Brom v Burnley Match Thread
If West Brom could finish we'd be 3-1 down quite easily by now.
They are having a go at us on the wings and tearing us up.
Triangle of Muric, Taylor and HB look solid, but Roberts and Maasten just....loose? Cork having a poor game as well, think he'll be cautious now he's on a booking.
I'd hook Roberts, pull Vinthno back to RB and put JBG on left see how we get on.

May get pelters for this, but maatsen upsets the balance of this side. Time and time again the ball is going down his side. I much prefer Vitinho there.

We're getting hammered. We might be winning, but you wouldn't normally expect those chances to be missed by a good team. We've more than rode our luck. I doubt we keep a clean sheet without something changing.

Re: West Brom v Burnley Match Thread
We’re playing like a traditional away side and hitting on the break, weve gotten a it spoiled of late expecting us to dominate games , against the potential top 6 side it will be more even. And in some respects helps the players to not get to carried away. We also need to be able to defend for long stretches and so far that’s been a positive

Vitinho is a better defender and at least as effective going forward.

Re: West Brom v Burnley Match Thread
On a couple of occasions Vitinho had to track back and cover or tackle because Roberts was missing. You're regularly critical of Vitinho but I don't see what he's done so wrong today beyond be reserved because Roberts hasn't turned up. He failed to show for a ball and the offside header was a simple one but he's put a decent ball in and both fullbacks have been far more absent than him.
