The "right thing" isn't tangible. It's subjective. That's why some people will agree and some people will disagree (they might even whinge about it). And that's okay. The Queen was lucky enough to preside over a democracy and free society.

I will.
I had a feeling the game would go as soon as Giles effing Brandreth was wheeled out to give his fascinating insight into the workings of the Royal Family.... You know it can only get worse after that.

By postponing the game it goes against everything the Queen and the Royalty stood for. Continuing through adversity and getting on with life.

No.
i have tried very hard to show the anomaly between stopping sport ahead of other social weekend activities.
But you don't want to see or accept it.
Please explain why you believe that sports fans should have their enjoyment taken away and cinema fans (for example) should not.

Their main aim is the continuation & relevance of the monarchy so this is exactly what they will expect and hope for.
It is going to feel very out of place in a world where news moves so quickly and now will have a week or more of this, barley even news, just reaction.

Yes but you can go to the cinema in your home town.
It's not much consolation when you've shelled out a load of money to travel to Burnley on a Thursday or Friday, and it's then called off.
I hope travelling Norwich fans can be compensated, but I don't think there'll be any compensation for our long distance supporters who've booked flights, other transport and accommodation.

Utterly ridiculous. The Queen was praised for her stoicism and her ability to carry on through adversity. We have to postpone things at the drop of a hat, with no thought for those who have travelled etc for enforced mourning while Nicholas Witchell regales well worn anecdotes. A joke.

Alright so I’ll be making a long awaited return the Turf for the Norwich game (I’ve been living in New Zealand for over 10 years) and wondering two things…
1) Can I still pay at the turnstiles or do I need to go ticket office first?
2) Where’s the best place to park the car these days (ideally free)?
Thanks in advance. UTC
Where does it say he's flown in from NZ just for this match?
In fact, I read it that after living in NZ for over 10 years he has relocated back to the UK.
Perhaps you are all correct and I'm wrong, it wouldn't be the first time

The cancelling of all sports for ten days would be very nineteenth century. For a wonderful lady, who dragged the royal family, into the 21st century, I fail to see how that honours her memory.

Re: Game postponed
Pretty much the perfect example of virtue signalling in my opinion. Postponing the games serves no purpose, it certainly isn’t in the best interests of the people and I can almost certainly guarantee it’s not what the queen would have wanted or what she represented.
I can understand emotions running high tonight, I’m sure everyone is saddened by the death of the queen, and of the hundreds of posts I’ve read about this I’ve probably only seen one or two disrespectful ones.
Do not conflate the idea that football should go ahead the weekend after the queen dying with a lack of respect. What were you all doing minutes after hearing the news? Posting on a football messageboard? Is that somehow less disrespectful than wanting matches to take place this weekend?
People are entitled to have different views about this - but as usual on here there are those too quick to shut them down and resort to personal abuse.

Jeez, he only wanted to know where to park his car.
Now he's a hero who flew for 24 hours only to watch the Norwich match them to fly straight home again.

It's a global event but the event itself is done with now until the funeral. The TV will have already repeated itself a thousand times already today, there's not really anything else to say. Sure, have a period of mourning for those who want to mourn for however long but there's no need to stop everything else. It's huge, very sad news, but it's done with now until the funeral. If we're really going down the 'enforced' national mourning route, we should all be getting the day off tomorrow.Billy Balfour wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 10:18 pmI don't think this was unexpected for one minute.
