I would rather the country came to a stand still for the little girl who was shot not making double figures than a 96yr old that had a very privileged life!
I agree about tge shocking terribly shocking murder of the lite gorl BUT you must be as thick as a brick to even mention it on this thread.

They haven’t cancelled all leisure activities. And it’s precisely because football teams mean more to people, representing a town and a people, that it’s important they’re seen to be doing the right thing.
The "right thing" isn't tangible. It's subjective. That's why some people will agree and some people will disagree (they might even whinge about it). And that's okay. The Queen was lucky enough to preside over a democracy and free society.

I will.
I had a feeling the game would go as soon as Giles effing Brandreth was wheeled out to give his fascinating insight into the workings of the Royal Family.... You know it can only get worse after that.

Make football look a whole less indulgent, don't they?
Well not really, none of them are spectator sports ( unless there’s something your not telling us boat shed) 😁

Weird decision. We’ve played after way bigger tragedies than a 96 year old lady passing away.

By postponing the game it goes against everything the Queen and the Royalty stood for. Continuing through adversity and getting on with life.

No.
i have tried very hard to show the anomaly between stopping sport ahead of other social weekend activities.
But you don't want to see or accept it.
Please explain why you believe that sports fans should have their enjoyment taken away and cinema fans (for example) should not.

So people disappointed that the football is off can go and watch a film.

Disgusted with this - it’s not about ‘respect’ it’s about Burnley/EFL not wanting to be shamed for being ‘unvirtuous’ in this bullshit digital world.

Celebrate her life, clap at the ground - show what it means to be British.

Correct decision. I’m meant to be on for my first game in 3 years next week but I won’t gripe if I miss out. Somethings are more important.

I don't understand the controversy. Our royals have been intrinsic in our national game long before any of us have been following our team. How can the league walk away from that? And why should they?

I fully support the postponement of games

Their main aim is the continuation & relevance of the monarchy so this is exactly what they will expect and hope for.
It is going to feel very out of place in a world where news moves so quickly and now will have a week or more of this, barley even news, just reaction.

I don't think this was unexpected for one minute.

BTW: Take a look at the foreign TV news stations. Nearly every one of them is covering the Queen's passing. Not just the Commonwealth countries either, this is truly one of the global events of our times.

Yes but you can go to the cinema in your home town.
It's not much consolation when you've shelled out a load of money to travel to Burnley on a Thursday or Friday, and it's then called off.
I hope travelling Norwich fans can be compensated, but I don't think there'll be any compensation for our long distance supporters who've booked flights, other transport and accommodation.

Utterly ridiculous. The Queen was praised for her stoicism and her ability to carry on through adversity. We have to postpone things at the drop of a hat, with no thought for those who have travelled etc for enforced mourning while Nicholas Witchell regales well worn anecdotes. A joke.

I must be thick! And It's not just you nil desperandum......several people have mentioned it.

Alright so I’ll be making a long awaited return the Turf for the Norwich game (I’ve been living in New Zealand for over 10 years) and wondering two things…

1) Can I still pay at the turnstiles or do I need to go ticket office first?
2) Where’s the best place to park the car these days (ideally free)?

Thanks in advance. UTC

Where does it say he's flown in from NZ just for this match?

In fact, I read it that after living in NZ for over 10 years he has relocated back to the UK.

Perhaps you are all correct and I'm wrong, it wouldn't be the first time

The cancelling of all sports for ten days would be very nineteenth century. For a wonderful lady, who dragged the royal family, into the 21st century, I fail to see how that honours her memory.

Pretty much the perfect example of virtue signalling in my opinion. Postponing the games serves no purpose, it certainly isn’t in the best interests of the people and I can almost certainly guarantee it’s not what the queen would have wanted or what she represented.

I can understand emotions running high tonight, I’m sure everyone is saddened by the death of the queen, and of the hundreds of posts I’ve read about this I’ve probably only seen one or two disrespectful ones.

Do not conflate the idea that football should go ahead the weekend after the queen dying with a lack of respect. What were you all doing minutes after hearing the news? Posting on a football messageboard? Is that somehow less disrespectful than wanting matches to take place this weekend?

People are entitled to have different views about this - but as usual on here there are those too quick to shut them down and resort to personal abuse.

Oh, I’m fine. It’s the people so distraught over the fact their Friday night has now been ruined I’m worried about
So disrespectful posting on a football messageboard when we are supposed to be in mourning

I will raise a glass to her majesties memory.
If the game had gone ahead,I would have raised that same glass for that same reason.
Sports have been controlled by the nobility since they realized its power to control.

Very good point. You might be right.
My point about long distance travellers remains valid though.
Indeed your point is still valid.

However, we now have a person on this thread who thinks that BFC should fly this chap back from New Zealand for the rearranged fixture.
Jeez, he only wanted to know where to park his car.
Now he's a hero who flew for 24 hours only to watch the Norwich match them to fly straight home again.

I don't think this was unexpected for one minute.

BTW: Take a look at the foreign TV news stations. Nearly every one of them is covering the Queen's passing. Not just the Commonwealth countries either, this is truly one of the global events of our times.
It's a global event but the event itself is done with now until the funeral. The TV will have already repeated itself a thousand times already today, there's not really anything else to say. Sure, have a period of mourning for those who want to mourn for however long but there's no need to stop everything else. It's huge, very sad news, but it's done with now until the funeral. If we're really going down the 'enforced' national mourning route, we should all be getting the day off tomorrow.

Bang on.

Good night everyone. Some of you are getting hysterical. It's like you haven't got or can't think of anything else to do if a game is postponed.
Goodness knows how you coped with the covid postponements?
