Re: Sport Tonight
Great news, all rugby league fixtures going ahead this weekend. All will have a minutes silence for the Queen.
The game's English governing body, the RFL, said "due respect will be paid to Her Majesty before all fixtures" with a period of silence being observed at matches, the national anthem being played where possible and black armbands being worn by players and officials.
"This has been a difficult decision - we have taken into account the desire expressed by players and clubs at community level to come together to share their grief, and to celebrate the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II," the RFL said in a statement.
The Queen was a patron of the RFL during her 70-year reign, and twice presented the Challenge Cup at Wembley - to victorious captains Derek Turner of Wakefield in 1960 and Featherstone's Malcolm Dixon in 1967.
Elsewhere, fixtures in Australia's National Rugby League are also taking place, with a minute's silence preceding the play-off fixture between Penrith Panthers and Parramatta Eels on Friday.

Odd that the “working class game” has to stop but Rugby a game invented for the posh and rich gets to continue.

I think it’s more to do with the fact the rugby league season finished last weekend and this is the climax with the playoffs.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 6:40 pmWhy is the Rugby still on and football isn’t? What a joke
Only two eliminations set for this weekend and if they’d been delayed it’d be out of sync for the coming weeks and Grand Final.
Calling the footy off so early in the season doesn’t make a blind bit of difference to anyone.

Nice to see the respect shown for the Queen by the rugby league crowd in France ,followed by the national anthem God save the King.

Perhaps you need to research the history of the formation of rugby league.RickyBobby wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 5:58 pmOdd that the “working class game” has to stop but Rugby a game invented for the posh and rich gets to continue.

I thought it was largely started by working class men in Lancashire and Yorkshire
Maybe I'm wrong?

The problem with Football is that clubs have hooligans and Police are needed at Stadiums and in particular matches in London .Police are required whilst thousands are coming into the Capital to show respect to the late Queen and there are not enough Police to cover both.
Rugby and Horse Racing don’t have hooligans watching.

Half time Catalan 4 Leeds 12.
A hard game with thunderous tackles but Leeds scored 2 late tries and have upper hand.

Agree con, the Catalans were certainly testing the ref's patience during that match. Very hard fought game ---enjoyed it.
