Not sure how you think it's a fair race when THB starts with his back to the finish line whilst the attacker is running forwards. Still don't see the relevance to Hull's striker and Tarkowski either. You're just incredibly negative about the new team, good job you don't even attend games.
I’m incredibly negative about the new team? That’s a first

He’s plodding lad - poor acceleration.

Aye course I don’t, 5K on my clarets account

Played well. Picking passes like we’ve become used to. Captain too.

There’s more to being a top defender than being decent in possession.

He reads the game well when defending in a high line and clearly has excellent vision and a stellar passing range.

However he is limited in the air and doesn’t seem to have great awareness defending inside the box - also isn’t particularly blessed with pace/acceleration.

Think he’s a very good young player but I’m not sure he has all the tools it takes to be a top top player as the OP alluded to
Agree. He has many forward attributes, however, he is a centre back. Job is head and block first. Create 2nd. Lack of pace - use your experience and positional sense to be there first.

Saw the 2nd half. THB looked very composed, looked as if he was organising the defence plus he played some decent passes into midfield.

Both Steve Davies and Ben Mee were particularly slow, but through experience and positional play were rarely exposed

He is a far more cultured defender than you are giving him credit for.

Terrific young prospect not sure if he will make the top 6 in the PL but he looks to be PL class for sure.

Cullen aside looks to be the pick of the new recruits in terms of consistency, performance and contribution.

THB has been MOM for me in virtually every game - including the first game, when he hardly got a mention. I think he's in a different league from Cullen.

I think Cullen and Maatsen were the pick of the bunch in the first game and Cork/Brownhill arguably thereafter but I agree THB looks a cut above Cullen in terms of potential.

Now I remember Cahill being quality, especially alongside John McGreal - This would be akin to THB being alongside Ben Mee (ish).
Cahill was also sold to Bolton before he made it.

THB is the main defender for us, at a very young age, that speaks volumes about how good he is.

We won't get him (as my City supporting friends delight in informing me) but he's the one loan player I'd go all out for a deal.

Steady job in a team that is so much more positive than the main team! He came off after around 81 minutes just to give the other lad a run out.
Beyer came on as a sub for them for the last half hour and played well but picked up a silly booking when he took a free kick to get the England player booked because he hadn't retreated 10 yards. The ref booked them both!
Really good win 3-1 for England after going behing in the first half.

Was on row 2 behind the goal so got a good view of THB.

Looked totally comfortable. More so than in the Champ to be fair (not so up and at ‘em).

Nearly scored with a left foot volley and Beyer at wing back looked good on the ball coming inside to end up at centre forward in a Roberts fashion.

Both our lads spotted the little ones Clarets attire. Which of course was the plan :-)

Comments from him on how difficult it is to break through at City, especially after they signed another new cb in the summer. Also encouraging to see how committed he is to us this season.

Being reported by Nixon today that City want THB to sign a new deal as his expires in 2024. Also that VK wants him back in the Prem and we could get him on loan again.

Tough on Ekdal. Also, we may not get him next season so the more game time for Ekdal the better. Same with Beyer I guess. Tough call.

Im not sure to be honest. Ekdal comes across to me as a bit more aggressive in the tackle, certainly more noticeable in the air, whereas THB is probably mite skilful. Just my opinion of course. A tough call for VK but not a bad one to have.

It would be tough on Ekdal but I'd certainly play THB when fully fit, and of course we need to do what we can to entice him back next season. THB is one of the best centre halves is this league and will get even better.

It was only a couple of months ago everyone on here was saying how THB was a certainty to play for (and captain) England in the future. He has been part of the journey this season from the very beginning and deserves the chance to finish what he started.

Ekdal has been superb and is a great option to have as cover on the bench. But once fit, Harwood-Bellis comes back in for me alongside Beyer. He is a very good footballer.

Ekdal is the better defender at the moment by quite a bit I’d say. He’s better in the air, knows when to attack the ball better and is a decent dribbler and passer himself - although not at THB’s level.

Al-Dakhil has looked really good in his performances too. Really quick and a proper front foot defender. Very impressive for his age and we need to try and make sure he gets game time.

Aerials won %

THB 62.6
Ekdal 71.4
Beyer 58.4
Taylor 59.3

Limited data for Ekdal, though, given he’s played only 8 games.
