We must have some sort of record with the sheer number of international keepers we have had on the books in the last 10years.
Top of my head.
Paul Robinson
Tom Heaton
Nick Pope
Anders Lindegaard
Joe Hart
Wayne Hennessy
BPF
Arni Muric
and I feel I’ve missed one.

In the England v Wales Under-23 International in 1972 we had Alan Stevenson representing England and Jeff Parton in goal for Wales.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 7:07 pmWhen did two Burnley keepers last line up against other in an International?

Re: Northern Ireland v Kosovo
In terms of full Internationals Colin McDonald (arguably our greatest ever keeper) played several times for England including every single game in the 1958 World Cup.
His understudy at the time here was Adam Blacklaw, but Adam didn't make his full Scotland debut until 1963.

Gerry Peyton? He had a long international career... though not much of it with Burnley.

Re: Northern Ireland v Kosovo
Gerry had a long and illustrious International career playing some 33 times for the Republic of Ireland whilst mainly with Fulham and Bournemouth, but he never played for them whilst at Burnley.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 8:19 pmGerry Peyton? Apparently his early form at Fulham was so good that Don Revie called him up to the England under-21 squad but he turned that down in favour of playing for Ireland because of his desire to play for the country of his parents' birth.
Remarkably Gerry is still the interim coach of Indian Super League club Odisha FC.

If we can stretch it back to 2009, Gabor Kiraly made 27 appearances for us, and was capped 108 times for Hungary ..

I was so impressed by Gerry Peyton's rugby boots.
Re: Northern Ireland v Kosovo
If we go even further Nik Michopoulos, and Chris Woods. Not a dreadful record over the last 25 years, especially given the levels we've played at.

Nick Pope should be having double the amount of caps he has but for Muppet Southgate ignoring Nicks obvious superiority over all other keepers

Every football pundit and journalist cites Nick's inadequacy with his feet as being a hindrance to him being a top class keeper. In today's game you have to be good with your feet. Nick plainly and obviously isn't. Hence he will never be first choice for England. Sad but true.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 2:53 amNick Pope should be having double the amount of caps he has but for Muppet Southgate ignoring Nicks obvious superiority over all other keepers
How many shots did he have to save on Friday. Very few. How many opportunities did he have to start another attack, quite a lot. However his distribution was poor, putting Italy on the front foot and England out of shape.

This is why Muric is SO important to us. He shouldn’t have that many saves to make given how we hold the ball, so his ability to distribute is a huge asset.Loyal Supporter wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 8:08 amEvery football pundit and journalist cites Nick's inadequacy with his feet as being a hindrance to him being a top class keeper. Re: Northern Ireland v Kosovo
The thing with Pope is that he'd make a save that many others including Muric will never be capable of. He had an uncanny knack of sticking out a boot and deflecting almost certain goals the other side of the post for a corner.Loyal Supporter wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 8:08 amEvery football pundit and journalist cites Nick's inadequacy with his feet as being a hindrance to him being a top class keeper. It seems in this day and age being a very good goal keeper and being a brilliant shot stopper is very much secondary to how well you can pass a football.

No reason why Muric should not become as good a shot-stopper as Nick Pope.
Pickford is probably a better shot-stopper than NP.

A little earlier Danny Coyne as well.
Brian Jensen always felt good enough to play for Denmark, if that counts?

Diego Penny also. I'd be reluctant to count Hart, Robinson and Gilks as they weren't capped while at Burnley but by my count in the last 20 years we've hadTricky Trevor wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 7:18 pmWe must have some sort of record with the sheer number of international keepers we have had on the books in the last 10years.

2 English

1 Peruvian
1 Hungarian
1 Kosovan
All playing for their country while at Burnley. Not bad going.

Re: Northern Ireland v Kosovo
I don't think there are many pundits or journalists who would say Pope isn't a top class keeper. He's the best English goalkeeper there is and has been for some time now.Loyal Supporter wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 8:08 amEvery football pundit and journalist cites Nick's inadequacy with his feet as being a hindrance to him being a top class keeper.
However, it's very much a horses for courses thing and the likes of Pickford and Ramsdale are clearly better with their feet (although not to the huge extent some would have you believe). There's no reason why the manager shouldn't pick the players depending on the game. Where England are likely to have most of the possession, have a keeper who can move the ball around and start attacks. In the big games where they'll need to make more saves and do some proper goalkeeping, it's Pope every time.
On Muric, I think he looks a cracking keeper for 23 and he's vital to the way we play. Will he be as good as Pope? Could be, with more experience and the right coaching. He's got that Pope trait of standing up as long as possible and making himself big. Plenty more to come from him, I think.

Re: Northern Ireland v Kosovo
I'm struggling to remember Pope costing us any goals with his bad feet.
Muric might become a decent keeper, he has time on his hands. But at the moment he's a championship keeper who puts his team mates under pressure every game.
He shouldn't even be in the same conversation as Pope, maybe judge him against John Spicer, he was better with his feet than his hands as well.

Maybe cause Dyche’s instruction was to launch it to Barnes / Wood / the crowd every time?Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 11:41 amI'm struggling to remember Pope costing us any goals with his bad feet.
Re: Northern Ireland v Kosovo
More often than not Pope would punt it long. He admitted in an interview lately this was instructional. There was never any delicate chips to wingers / full backs like modern keepers (like Muric/Ramsdale/Pickford) are capable of. He tried a few of those the other night and they all went out of play.
Re: Northern Ireland v Kosovo
Yes, but you said every time and it certainly wasn't the case under Jackson. Pope was and is an excellent keeper despite his only weakness.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 11:58 amMore often than not Pope would punt it long. Re: Northern Ireland v Kosovo
The funny thing is that we have watched our Championship squad goalkeepers playing in an international match, both making very good saves, yet we end up in a debate about the merits of our ex keeper.
