Sam Larkin from Kays Boxing Acaedmy in Colne is running to Lake Windemere on Sunday Morning from his gym to raise funds for casualmindsmatter.com based in Burnley, the route he is taking is appx 82 miles taking in The Dales Way.

Quite poignant for me, I’m a mental health champion at work, yesterday I had a massive kick off at work with my manager that had been brewing for some time. I understand mental health and my own mental health. The company director told me take as much time off that I liked however I want to work, I don’t do time off. Said I would be back in Wednesday however I am realising i need to give my head a rest, it takes time. Mental injuries are the same as physical ones. It is good to talk.

The problem is, the country is becoming less empathetic as the years go on.

Depression is going up - empathy is going down.

The word empathy was used in my email response to the one I got saying that hopefully I will have a “better mentality “ in the afternoon meeting. Some need to understand that comments like that are no different to punching someone in the face. It’s good to talk.

How is your manager as a person in general?

Probably in a really bad place himself, his whole life is a blag, struggles with truth. He deals in stress, anxiety and demotivating. He spends his time at work covering for his girlfriend that he thinks no one knows he is seeing, that’s after a failed relationship with the admin team manager which caused his divorce. It’s complicated! His staff have to suffer. Thanks for listening. Good to talk. X

Surprising - he should be more understandable. Maybe mention that to him.

Have tried to help him the past, it’s beyond that, relationship is broken now. I think the thread has helped to realise that I am injured upstairs and 2 days off won’t solve things and not to let my pride get in the way of going back into work too soon. Good to talk. Xx

Sounds very similar to some of the stuff I’ve had to deal with at work over the last 18 months. Thanks for sharing. J

I would like to flag up the Samaritans Self Help app. - link on their website. Plus there is lots of other useful info there.
