So, as a USA fan, someone who has not grown up watching the PL, what exactly are the coaching badges about? I've heard them mentioned often in the past, just don't know what's involved. And also why the PL would insist on them. I mean if someone wants to hire Ted Lasso isn't that their own risk?
Anyway, like I said, no idea what they are, so probably really good reasons. But coming from a world where NFL teams hire college coaches as new head men without ever coaching in the pros, it seems odd to me.

UEFA has a worship of badges and qualifications. And UEFA issue the badges as well, so it's in their interest to keep the system going.Elbarad wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 10:21 pmSo, as a USA fan, someone who has not grown up watching the PL, what exactly are the coaching badges about? I do wonder what might happen if a non-league manager took his team right to the PL, and refused to take the badges, and took a different job title to avoid having to take them. (They are very time-consuming, I understand.) How far would the PL go to stop him from coaching?

Thank you for your reply, I'm genuinely interested. Why could he manage in the top Belgium league without them if it's a UEFA thing? Do they require different badges for the Belgian leagues vs say the Spanish and English leagues?dsr wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 2:08 pmUEFA has a worship of badges and qualifications. I guess I'll have to start googling if I really want to know what they are, just wondered if someone knew off hand.
Thanks again.

It did cause a problem! Anderlecht were fined for appointing him. Then he had to start the course (which is 21 days in-person training, plus other time-consuming modules) but got held up with covid.

No, my nice Euro passport although that has been downgraded nowadays.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 2:13 pmTell me you've got a blue passport without telling me you've got a blue passport
Nothing against any manager who tries and fails. I do like a fair chance for home grown talent too.
Young players too. Very few making the breakthrough.

They'd break through if they were good enough, Ian.
Re: Villa keen on Kompany
Maybe but in the highest leagues they would rather buy a player. One of those things.
