Re: Wout WEeghorst
Tbf, Vincent Jansson made the squad, and he plays for Antwerp so I'm not entirely convinced he would've necessarily missed out if he stayed. Though saying that, if that was the agreed contract, so be it. Relatively poor Dutch squad these days.
Re: Wout WEeghorst
Do we receive the $10,000 a day fee off fifa for Weghorst like we will for Roberts ?

Re: Wout WEeghorst
That is a difficult one because technically we do not hold his registration - though I cannot find any definitive info - we will get something for his qualifying games last season as we will have from Cornet, Vydra, JBG and Prope too for their participation in the qualifying while under registration with us

Re: Wout WEeghorst
A fact you haven't considered. He didn't do much in the EPL because it's a far higher standard than the other leagues he's scored so many in.houseboy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 2:11 pmFact: he came to us with a record of scoring 1 goal every two games in Holland and Germany.
Fact: He now has a record of the same in Turkey.
Fact: he couldn’t score for us.
Conclusion: it seems to say more about Dyches style of play than it does about the player.
Under our current system bringing him back (if that really is a possibility) is a no-brainer. The guy is obviously a talented and consistent goal scorer at high levels. In our set up he could have a field day. I don’t care about the circumstances of his leaving, I’m sure he’s an okay bloke.
Re: Wout WEeghorst
I'm intrigued to see him in this Burnley side. I think he'd be good in it. Doubt it'll happen and not the end of the world if it doesn't.
Looks a poor Dutch squad.

Weghorst (Jan 2022): Hmm. My dream is to play in the premiership, so I might join you. However, there is a strong possibility you will get relegated, and I don’t want to drop down a division at this stage in my career. Can we insert a clause in case that happens?
Burnley FC: Certainly.
Weghorst: Excellent. I’ll sign for you then.
Burnley: *Gets relegated*
Weghorst: I’d like to use my agreed clause, please.
Burnley: Understandable. Leave it with us.

I'd quite happily have him back after the world cup if he's committed to the cause. JRod has shown you don't need pace to get goals in this team. If he's not motivated by playing for us in the championship then let him stay in Turkey.

Justified his request to move away from the club.
Hopefully he takes part in and has a good world cup, as it makes it easier for the club to get a good price for him.
There's not really a lot else to say tbh

Re: Wout WEeghorst
It is far more nuanced than you are interpreting it, the rules accept, and make accommodation for, the transitory nature of a player's registration.
Payments will be proportionate to the appearances while under registration with any specific club in the appropriate, qualification/finals appearances/
Also, payments for the qualification element will almost certainly be less than those for the finals

Disagree bud. I think the Bundesliga is every bit as good as the PL and he managed 1 in 2 for about three years there. It’s only the PL and media hype that’s goes on about the ‘best league in the world’ rubbish.

Oops! Another Dyche can do no wrong supporter eh? No agenda here bud. Just pointing out actual provable facts about his scoring ability. As to whether it was Dyches style or not is open to question but that question has to be asked.

Was he even a Dyche signing?
Bringing him back, as some want, may be an issue because I suspect (nothing to support it with) that he is still on Premier League wages and had no relegation clause in that respect

I'm not saying he's a god, you're the one grinding a stupid axe over him.
As for scoring facts, Cornet the winger converted to striker scored more than an actual striker, but don't let that get in the way of a good old argument eh?
WW was a flop for Burnley, you bat this about as much as you want but it's a fact
All we need from him now is to have a good world cup, so his value doesn't drop and then we can flog him and recoup as much as we can from him.
Meanwhile you can carry on being butt hurt over Dyche

I am talking about a £12 million striker who scored 2 (two) goals. A lot less than Cornet who spent half his time up front, one less than Chris Wood and the same as Rodriguez and Vydra. If that is your idea of the most productive striker we had then that's your own business.

Re: Wout WEeghorst
All the games authorities from FIFA, through UEFA, the FA to the EFL and PL talk of loams as temporary transfers, and by this they are referring to the transfer of a registration - a player can only be registered at any one club at any time. So, at face value we do not own WW's registration at this time.clive40golf wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 8:49 pmGenuine question Chester, Do we not hold his registration?

The difficulty here, and I am yet to find an answer to it, is that as far as I understand it FIFA pay compensation to clubs who register with them concerning the players registration - the issue may be covered by the loan contract (you would think/hope our club would be wise to that) but we do not have sight of that so do not know for certain where the compensation money goes
Incidentally UEFA have a similar scheme for the Euros and WW will be playing in those qualifying groups

You are the one with an axe to grind bud. Dyche was great for us. I’m saying nothing different. But you can’t see the facts about Weghosrt. You seem to think I have some kind of agenda but I don’t. I have simply pointed out the facts and suggested the possible reason for his failure with us. I could be wrong but you seem to think you are right. Dyche was great but he was also fallible. He played players who were obviously not performing and his use of subs was awful. He had favourites, we all know that. To be honest Dyche was amazing for us but in the last 18 months he lost it and the sooner some people realise that the better. I wish nothing but good for Dyche because he deserves better than what he gets on here but he isn’t perfect, no one is.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 4:03 pmI'm not saying he's a god, you're the one grinding a stupid axe over him.

Re: Wout WEeghorst
It is not a ‘fact’ to say he flopped, it’s an opinion. There were games where he played very well and didn’t score (notably against United) and games where he could’ve done better. A ‘flop’ is a subjective assessment, but it usually refers to a player who has contributed nothing to the cause. I’d have him back all day long, personally - his scoring record is good, he’s a Dutch international and I feel VK would get a tune out of him in this very different set up. If not, then so be it, but I don’t subscribe to this ‘let’s get rid asap’ view in some quarters.

Re: Wout WEeghorst
He started ok with us but then spat is dummy out and that was the end of him . Obviously we were desperate for a striker when Wood left but for him to have that clause in is contract with the situation we faced shows how desperate were .
Re: Wout WEeghorst
Who wouldn’t spit the dummy out by being forced to play in a turgid hoofest. Fortunately, we only had to endure watching.
Even Wood, who was the poster boy of Hoofball, gathered up his toys and left.
Wout is a quality footballer, in the right system, he thrives. We now play the right system. BRING HIM BACK.

Re: Wout WEeghorst
We got relegated.
The liklihood is that we were never going to be able to pay the wages of jrod + wout + Barnes without hitting the budget elsewhere on the pitch.
So I'd say the questions are: do we have an option to make a choice in January between Barnes and weghorst and if we get that chance, which do we go for.
Given our unexpected position in the league, I'd hope that we look a better option for ww than we did in the summer.

Re: Wout WEeghorst
For your assumption to be true people would have to accept the fact that the Bundesliga is inferior to the PL. The same would have to be true of the Dutch league. Maybe the latter is an argument but definitely not the former. To suggest the PL is that superior to the Bundesliga is just national arrogance, a kind of mines bigger than yours attitude. The PL is not that good that a prolific goal scorer suddenly becomes rubbish. We played extremely defensive football under Dyche and it kept us in the PL for a good while but same style is not conducive to producing goal scoring opportunities.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 1:44 amFact - WW can score in Germany and Turkey quite easily, but couldn't here, so he flopped.

I’m not criticising Dyches style, it was good for us for some time, but I am suggesting that is why maybe Weghorst failed. Nothing more.

Things can change very quickly in football. If he came back in January and scored a few and helped take us up, playing well in a new system, all will be forgiven and forgot.
Would love to have him back here and see how he did under VK, but doubt that will happen mid season.

Unfortunately, he didn’t score enough goals for us in a system that undoubtedly didn’t suit him. He showed enough for people to see he’d do really well in this current set up.
