I have been critical of this referee at times in the past, but when you’ve experienced 17 or 18 championship referees so far this season, you realise why the Premier League referees are Premier League referees. An absolutely magnificent demonstration of how to control a derby game.

Sat at home watching this ... gutted I wasn't there ...
Coote definitely handled the hotbed as well as can be expected and if I could vote I would be putting exactly what jdrobbo put

Best I've seen for a long time. Showed leniancy to both sides and had full control but almost stealth like.

Outstanding performance today. As jdrobbo posted, it really does show how much better the Premier League refs are.

Can't really fault him today. Thought he let a few things go he maybe could or should have been harsher on but then he was the same both ways which is all we ever really ask for.

Very good although, weirdly for a derby, he didn't have many big calls to make. Kept things flowing without flashing too many cards and was pretty fair for both sides.

His direction is a bit strange.
You're not always sure what decision he's given, and certainly players of both teams struggled with that today. Needs to be more positive in his body language.

Not posted my marks but agree he was a very decent referee although in respect of the holding and pulling of Benson and his shirt he and the linesman were remiss. But the players of both teams were quite exemplary in not cheating and time wasting which does help the officials.

The fans on the brfc forums don't agree with these scores. They think the ref was massively Burnley biased and Ashley should have got multiple red cards

Could have dished out more yellows to both sides and awarding us a goal kick after Cork nutted it behind was bizarre. No complaints though, he can come again.

Not sure if we are just rating the ref as they are a team, but he was superb and let fouls go from both teams in the spirit of letting it flow (PL sides get fouls for blowing on the ear so it surprised me) although on another day his linesmen would have affected the game by missing the offside Diaz for their penalty claim and the handball by Diaz for ours.

There keeper had a moment where he tried to con the ref. Going down holding his face when Barnes put his hand near his throat. But the ref was having none of it. Walking over with that ‘really, you’ve gone down for that’ look.

Yes, we've had some shockers so far this season. And hadn't realised you realise how much better Premier League referees were.
Thought Cork should have been booked early doors, but that set the tone. A good physical derby with a referee being consistent, not brandishing cards left, right and centre and not for an instant was there any hint of him not being in control.
An absolutely magnificent display.

How to Score
A. Decision Making (including use of advantage) -20 out of 25
B. Consistency -22 out of 25
C. Fitness and Positioning -22 of 25
D. Control and Authority -20 out of 25
Very good performance, let a few go at the start of the game, could arguably have booked Barnes, good use of advantage.
The handball incident was the only contentious issue, seen them given.
So overall very good.
