…even if they continue to win one, lose one, they won’t be anywhere near the play-offs.
Win one, lose on would give them 69 points.

Ah, but that’s no longer win one, lose one.

That’s win one, lose one, draw some. ;)

In terms of league and cup games we’re actually a lot closer to catching up. Despite it being 34 years their run only consisted of nine league games and two cup games undefeated, our run now consists of seven league games and one cup game, so only three behind.

I sit in the BL near the way end and the Rovers fans looked humiliated towards the end as the Burnley fans taunted them.
I new exactly how they felt as we had the same experience at Ewood when they put 5 past us, yesterday was certainly pay back time and I enjoyed every minute of it
The gulf between the clubs is massive although the league position doesn't support that. Our support base is growing, there's shrinking. There ground is looking tired and dated whilst the yanks have brought the Turf into the 21st century with the branding around the stadium

It’s not really that even in the last 60 years tbh, we now have a 50% win record since 1962. The other 50% is draws and defeats so they are well and truly in our modern day shadow.

No, it’s 11 and 8, you’ve included the three draws that marked the transition between their dominance and our dominance as part of our run but not theirs.

In April 2001 my pregnant wife and I sat in the upper tier of the Darwen End having travelled there on one of the fleet of buses and as the teams ran out onto the pitch that day and there was an almighty roar she felt the baby kick inside her for the very first time. The ensuing match and result really was embarrassing, but the gulf in class at that time was absolutely glaring and we really were the poor relations and seemed destined to be so forever on that dreadful showing. The baby (our son) was born a few months later as a now 21 year old was watching the game yesterday from a pub in Adelaide, Australia. His summation was "this is embarrassing for Rovers. The gulf between the teams is massive, even if the league placings aren't". I guess we should have known back in 2001 that actually nothing is forever and that what comes around, goes around!

When we played at Sheff U we tired badly in the second half after 3 games in a short period. Yesterday as VK predicted we were fresh. By ht yesterday Rovers had been run ragged and as they say the second half is history. At 3-0 down they were still time wasting which must have been acutely embarrassing for their fans.

It was as close to a perfect game for us as I have seen in a long time !!!

Long may the the total dominance continue

Did seem like Tomasson made some odd decisions yesterday. Mola was a youngster making his first team league debut (and looked it). Wharton highly regarded by their support yet didn't see a minute. Oh well, never mind.

Neither Wharton brother was involved. Both two of their better players and Rovers fans themselves.

Rovers supporters aren't happy with Tomasson. Oh well.

From what I’ve seen on various platforms of social media the Bastards fans have largely been magnanimous in defeat and even offered a whiff of praise towards us.

And the tactics were wrong. They should have played their natural game instead of playing 5 or 6 at the back and hoping for a breakaway goal. It worked in tge first half thanks to their keeper it was bound to come unstuck with talent we have - and it did and they looked ragged.

Yep, it’s fair to assume that their draws could replace their defeats meaning they would do even better!

However, based on what I have seen of Blackburn this season along with other teams in the division, it is my opinion that they will at some point, have a spell where they will draw/lose more games than they win. I could well be wrong with this opinion (I seriously hope not), and yes they could go on and win their next 15 games in a row which you would imagine would put them top of the table, but I highly doubt it, in my opinion.

Just out of curiosity, what is your opinion on Blackburn’s likely form and therefore final league position between now and the end of the season? Top 2? Play offs? Mid-table?

I actually thought in the first half they did a good job of defending and game plan was working well. It's the best I've seen FBs defend against us, Zaroury and Benson couldn't really get in the game even when give 1 v 1s. They were also unlucky to not make the most of their break in the opening 10-15 when a slightly heavy through ball should have set them up 1 v 1.

We were deserved winners, but until their lad broke up the play with the gashed leg early in 2nd half, I was pretty nervous at the pattern of play. We ended up easy winners, but I feel they're going slightly OTT against their own team.

Pretty much all sides have one of those periods - Sunderland are on one now - but my hope is that all those draws we had early on were in fact our 'bad spell' and the fact they were draws and not losses bodes well for us finishing the season as Champions.

As to where Blackburn will finish: Based on yesterday's performance you'd say at best mid-table and only because they've got enough points on the board already to underpin that; but if you judged Burnley on our performance at Sheffield, you'd have to say similar about us. I certainly don't think they're capable of finishing in either of the top two spots, but I think they might (provided that they don't sell BB Diaz in January) make one of the bottom two play off spots; that said, I think there will be a much harder/closer fight for those play-off spots than there will be for the automatic promotion places. I anticipate Norwich and more especially Watford soon overtaking Rovers, with Watford being the one side who might get close to ourselves and Sheffield for a top two place; but besides Rover's there are certainly eight and perhaps even ten clubs who I consider capable of getting up to 5th or 6th by the season's end.

Then again, three months ago I felt that we might scrape into the play-offs at best and as late as yesterday morning I declared that 'a half decent performance against the likes of Crawley is about Ashley Barne's level nowadays'; both of which show what my opinion's worth.

Not so sure tbh - one shot in a derby is incredibly poor. They were doing ok, but it was clear they were absolutely spent by about 55/60 mins. Plus, they had sacrificed pretty much their entire attacking mindset in order to do it. Wasn't their first half xG 0.0 or something? Thought they were very disappointing. And also kept picking the worst possible times to play out from the back.

Interesting thoughts. Ultimately it’s all just opinions, however, they would have to improve dramatically to change my view. It’s not as though they have been cuffing teams, with a lot of their games being 1-0 or 2-1 either way, with, I think two 3-0 wins and three 3-0 defeats to us, Sheff U and Reading?

I suspect that the incredible stat of having not drawn any games at nearly the mid point of the season will hurt them at some point much the same as the draws have prevented us being 8-10 points clear at the top at this stage. Also, that’s 9 defeats in 21 games for them now, so they are going to have to have an incredible run of results over the last 25 games of the season to have a chance of finishing top 2/6 and they will surely draw games and add to their already high number of defeats?

Finally, it’s also quite interesting to read their fans opinions not just about yesterday but their season in general so far. Many of them saying that results like yesterday had been coming for a while and that they have had some seriously big slices of Lady Luck recently as well. I know you can’t always rely on fans opinions, but it does give a useful insight into how they are feeling overall.

We will see!

Interesting to have a browse on the Sheff Utd forum too, it seems (despite their result against us) many already have us down for champions and wish us well against all, to create a gap between them and third place?

Burnley vs Blackburn head to head :

Burnley have won 43 times
19 draws
Blackburn have won 41 times

It’s neck and neck since the inception on the 3rd November 1888 but in the past 50-60 years as mentioned earlier ITT (bar a baron streak from the 80s-2014) we have gotten the better of them most of the time… long may it continue!

Well, they certainly did a number on us second half of that game! Interesting to hear VK attribute the ‘fall off the cliff’ second half down to fatigue/tiredness which I hadn’t even considered straight after the game.

Not sure that anyone/or at least many thought this performance to mean we would end up mid-table, but I still think it’s fair to say that when opponents are more direct against us they are more likely to succeed. Set pieces and fast counters seem to be where most of our conceded goals have come from, I think?….. Interestingly, the tards didn’t do this at all yesterday, instead opting to try and play out which once we were 1-0 up played right in to our high press.

That was a very interesting and entertaining read. Surprised at the levels of animosity towards their current manager who has guided them to 3rd and to Mowbray, who speaking as a bystander, seemed to have done quite well for them

Don't forget these are the same fans that thought Roy Hodgson wasn't good enough for them. They do have a bit of a track record of hounding out managers who've done a decent job for them. Jack Walkers millions dried up a long time ago. Sounds like there's plenty that have yet to realise it yet.

And plenty more who don't realise that Venky's are still putting in £20m per year.

I would assume they will play much better in B'tardville.
Not a forgone outcome.

Nonetheless, this half a season is ours.

I agree with most of your post on the footballing side but the branding around our stadium is more “smoke and mirrors” so to detract from our dated and tired stadium.

Yeah, just been on there myself, misery doesn't describe it. :)
Slagging our Ash off, but a few saying they'd like someone like him.
Yes they didn't play with a CF which surprised me. Diaz out left and Gallagher out right. Strange plan for the game.

There does appear to be two types of Rovers fans

Ones who say they should have had a penalty, and that would have changed the game, and refuse to acknowledge anything after that

Ones who acknowledge that they were just been beaten by a better team

I've got a lot more time for those in 2) than in 1)

1) is obviously delusional. As was Dunn when he said the momentum was with Rovers when we got our first goal. Having watched it back they were completely outplayed. We ground them down in the first half and finished them off in the second. Kompany makes the point repeatedly that we wear down the opposition and then take advantage as they tire. Bringing Tella on was the coup de grace.

If they had been awarded and scored that ‘penalty’ we would have won by at least 3-1. I suppose they would then have had two shots, so yeah it would have completely changed the game

They had to work incredibly hard to cut down the supply and close down our players in their half, but at the cost of barely crossing the half way line, and you can't do that for 90 minutes

And once we got the goal, they had to open up and try to play, and once we went 2-0 they completely collapsed and ended up being lucky to lose 3-0

It was every bit as comprehensive as the 5-0 was, and the reason is exactly the same

We had far better players all over the pitch than they had, and sometimes there is nothing you can do because you've just been beaten by the better team

Its so tribal not to recognise that unfortunately

But if they had been awarded a penalty then by the law of averages we would also have been awarded a penalty for the handball. Therefore our penalty would nullify their penalty which nullifies their argument. 🤔🤔🤔🤔😂

I can still see Rovers challenging the playoffs if Diaz stays fit and in form. Their first 50mins was decent enough and far from our 2001 shambles. By the end they were completely humiliated which made the whole experience so wonderful but I agree with those who point the finger at their delusional fans for thinking they should somehow be doing better than third place. Bizarre!
