That's partly true yes I did but I was extremely vocal about the senseless abuse he was receiving in terms of defending him as it wasn't his fault he was getting picked because no better replacements were available. Let's have some balance for justification.

Barnes absolutely and emphatically epitomises the true heart, passion, desire, skill and shithousery that The East Lancashire Derby demands.
The forceful dispatch of the Rovers keeper in the back of the net after such a sublime goal, was pure pure SkillThuggery. Brilliant!!!

Re: Ashley Barnes - Legend
JRod has been playing a deeper role than Barnes played on Saturday. We have had a lot of crosses into tge box this season and often noone on the end. Barnes was on them in this match. JRod is the better footballer but horses for courses as the saying goes and therefore there is a role for both players.

I remember going on the Brighton forum when we were in for Barnes, and he was a marmite player for them, even then.

Re: Ashley Barnes - Legend
I don't think he's marmite for us though
He's been great, then he's been **** for about three years, then he was showing signs of the old Barnesy v Crawley, and all the stuff he is really good at reappeared v Rovers
I'll say it again, its the perfect swansong for him, as we will now remember that rather than his last three years

As you said... Barnes struggled during earlier games... That's all anyone is saying, judged on the games you agree he struggled in, why wouldn't people say he was poor?Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Tue Nov 15, 2022 2:51 pmYou've had it in for barnes for years certainly spanning the length of time I've been posting & some of your comments aimed towards him have been absolutely appalling bearing in mind his service at the club & the contributions he made throughout the years especially under dyches tenure. As poor as Sir Ashley has been for the last few years, he has come through it. I thought after the Sunderland game that he was finished. He didn’t look fit, he certainly looked at least 2 yards off the pace and he was rightly hooked at HT.
Fast forward a month and he looks fitter, sharper and the goal against Crawley obviously helped his confidence.
Let’s hope he can carry on in Sundays vein for the remainder of the season when he’s called upon.

As far as I can tell, everyone who has been critical of Barnes this season and last has acknowledged that he played very well on Sunday.
It doesn't suddenly mean that we're all fickle or that Barnes has now become a brilliant player.
Simple as that really.

Legend? I suppose so, which in itself is remarkable given it's taken him just shy of 8 years to notch 50 goals; but lots of those goals were superb.
Re: Ashley Barnes - Legend
After rewatching the game numerous times, i cannot stop watching the 3rd goal. Barnes actually starts the move just outside the centre circle by passing to Brownhill.

Jakub, you are coming across as one damaged individual. Persistently repeating your idiotic claims of me having some kind of agenda against Barnes will not make it true, I'm afraid. Just read my posts past and present for God's sake.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Tue Nov 15, 2022 2:51 pmYou've had it in for barnes for years certainly spanning the length of time I've been posting & some of your comments aimed towards him have been absolutely appalling bearing in mind his service at the club & the contributions he made throughout the years especially under dyches tenure. I have stated the facts, if you are incapable in some way of understanding them, I understand your difficulties and sympathise and will leave it at that.
I can only repeat and try to make my thinking so basic even you might get it but, clearly, at times it looks like you don't want to understand and your agenda against/obsession with me takes over and your judgement is screwed - at least until you get the thread locked and shut down, of course.
No further comment is necessary - just read my posts in an open, objective manner and you might, might just get it.

Re: Ashley Barnes - Legend
I think most would agree before the Crawley game Ash B had been past his best for quite a while.
I have been a detractor of Ash B at times but Sunday showed "there is life in the old dog yet"
This game could just be the catalyst that rejuvenates his BFC career.
Those young devil-dogs around him played to his strengths and allowed him to play like the Ash B we loved, & not be the parody that he had become under SD the past 2 seasons.
Lets get behind "ALL" of them. They are "ALL" Burnley FC .. and they are doing us fans proud ...

We should but sadly that's not been the case hence the lack of form & contributory factor. Some players thrive off confidence & anything negative can ultimately finish them. The system is getting tweaked I think which in addition is getting the best out of him.Bosscat wrote: ↑Tue Nov 15, 2022 4:48 pmI think most would agree before the Crawley game Ash B had been past his best for quite a while.

For 1 he was poor I've conceded that all along & never denied that point but maintained the possibility that it could be a temporary blip & the system needs altering to utilise him effectively the Paul dickov nuisance factor will only get you so far when being stripped for pace with fast CHs. We all know Barnes isn't the quickest never has been to be fair but we know flighted balls he can on occasions outmuscle defenders if positionally set up right & so that proved the other day.

Re: Ashley Barnes - Legend
I have not seen any tweak in the system to accommodate AB - none at all.
Our young fantastic wingers realise that they have to put the ball in the box and sometimes this needs to be delivered early when either Jay or AB have made a run.
Often with the way we play we have to have patience and recycle the ball back to the full backs or midfield and then either switch play or often start again with our centre backs. We do this to keep possession and also because sometimes there is nothing to be gained from putting a ball into an empty box or it’s just too difficult to pick out a lone striker in a box crowded with opposition defenders.
On Sunday the cross from Zaroury was perfection - pace and precision. And AB like Jay has done a few times this year showed good movement to lose his man.
Our wide players are developing and Kompany will be telling them to be more courageous sometimes and put the ball into the box when Jay or AB have made the run. Earlier in the season we did not have Zaroury playing and Benson was over hitting a lot of his crosses. Since they have both been flying in the last 6 or 7 games it no coincidence that we are scoring more goals and winning more games.

All I can say is that he's clearly NOT finished. He scored two completely different goals and both "fit in" with how we play.
It's a major pity for him and the team that we have no games for a month.
I've rarely seen such a positive attitude towards a player both during AND after the match. Everybody was delighted for him and he will be walking on a cloud for some time.
Personally, I'd be very surprised if Barnsey doesn't score again this season.

Too many balls were behind him, even on Sunday. He seems able to twist and turn to get something of a shot off, no matter what. Certainly caused havoc and got his own back on their keeper, after being charged at, in the first half!

It must have helped Barnes having tired Blackburn out in the first half that Tella came on. Imagine after really been given the run around you have Tella with his speed coming at you.!!!

Re: Ashley Barnes - Legend
Barnes is the best finisher at the club since Wood left. Jay is the better overall player but tbh there is not much in it. We have played thirty odd per cent possession football for much of the last 3 years and Ashley has been very limited with his game time since his purple patch of goals at West Brom and West Ham a few seasons ago. When he did come in he was playing for fouls etc because we hardly had the ball.
This season is giving us twice the possession and a completely different style that everyone has needed to adapt to. The first game at Huddersfield gave us a glimpse and now everyone is getting used to it. He wasn’t that bad at Sunderland as the whole team was off it in the first half. This last week has really shown he is now in tune with the style of play and with the other players that are improving by the week.
It’s no surprise for a team that is constantly on the move having a couple of poor halves of football when both the games at Sunderland and Sheffield came when we had a shorter turnaround than the opposition.

His enthusiasm and commitment are so important and set a brilliant example to the younger, less experienced players. They can’t help but feed off his example and that will help them become better players. Teams need an Ashley Barnes and I, for one, am really pleased he plays for the Clarets.

When Barnes was in the team on Sunday I had a sneaky feeling he'd score. One of the very few downsides of this season was seeing Ash struggle. After all he's done for us, I didn't want his last season to be one where he was derided and ridiculed.
It would be nice for stalwarts such as Barnes, Cork, Westwood, Taylor, Brownhill & Jay Rod to get either promotion or silverware at the ends of their Burnley careers, as they've deserved it. Sometimes the constant grind of the premier league and beating survival isn't the same when thinking of past players and their achievements.

Not surprising that his two goals have got most of the attention, but even in real time on Sunday (and more so on the replays) I thought that his volley that led to the second goal was outstanding! (The save wasn't bad, but Zaroury was too fast for them!)
Ash took it on the turn and not only hit the target, he hit it with some force!
A great effort, I thought!

All players can do is grab their opportunity with both hands when it comes, and Ash certainly did that on Sunday.
Be a tough decision for VK if Jay is fit for QPR, however given our amount of squad rotation thus season we may find all 3 strikers being rotated depending on the opposition.

Re: Ashley Barnes - Legend
It was noticeable that AB was taking up some very good positions and finding space. No doubt finding space was helped by the mesmeric movement of the other players who were frightening and confusing the Blackburn defenders. His second goal was a great example, both in terms of the build up play, and also in the way in which he found space in the penalty area. And then his movement of the ball to enable his shot was top notch.
It looks as if the coaching he is receiving has further improved his play.
I wouldn't write him off yet! He can have a significant role to play this season.

Re: Ashley Barnes - Legend
Funny how we pick up on different things. In the first half I thought he was consistently too far to the right which meant that all of the chances ended up going wide because he had too much to do to get his chances on target. It's almost like he's so used to playing part of a front two that he's still leaving space for a left sided centre forward as he consistently positions himself around the right post or outside it.Claret53 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 17, 2022 12:35 pmIt was noticeable that AB was taking up some very good positions and finding space. Scored goals at some big stadiums too, such as Old Trafford, Anfield, Emirates, Etihad, Stamford Bridge and London Stadium. Hopefully he can squeeze in the (New) Tottenham Hotspur Stadium or Wembley later this season.
I bet there’s not many strikers who have played for a single Premier League club outside the ‘so-called’ top 6 who has done that.

Vardy is one who immediately springs to mind as possibly scoring at those venues, but I can't think of many more.

And he’s scored for us in a European match as well. So goals against all of the ‘big six’ in their own stadia including a first winning goal for the clarets at Anfield in donkeys years, a goal in European competition, a goal that won us promotion to the Premier League and two against Rovers.
Not bad Ashley!
