Some people are never happy. The lyrics have been changed recently and still they moan. 🤔 French national anthem very stirring but the lyrics are less tasteful.

Other than the England game yesterday I haven't watched any TV for nearly a week, I only found out from listening to a feed from talk sport with Simon Jordan who was going on about it with Souness, White and Keown.

I am sure he didn't make it up that they didn't show it live

It wasn't shown on the Bbc I was watching and others said the same, though one poster said it was 'on the red button'.

So it was shown on the BBC then, on red button and iPlayer.

"Flower of Scotland" literally is a dirge. It's commemoration the deaths of loads of Scotsmen who temporarily repelled an invasion by the English, and saying it won't happen again.

More a celebration of those that gave their lives in securing independence and requesting that spirit returns.

True. But it's still a dirge. ;)

Hark when the night is falling
Hear! hear the pipes are calling,
Loudly and proudly calling,
Down through the glen.
There where the hills are sleeping,
Now feel the blood a-leaping,
High as the spirits
Of the old Highland men.

Towering in gallant fame,
Scotland my mountain hame,
High may your proud standards, Gloriously wave,
Land of my high endeavour,
Land of the shining rivers,
Land of my heart for ever,
Scotland the brave.

High in the misty Highlands,
Out by the purple islands,
Brave are the hearts that beat
Beneath Scottish skies.
Wild are the winds to meet you,
Staunch are the friends that greet you,
Kind as the love that shines
From fair maidens' eyes.

Far off in sunlit places,
Sad are the Scottish faces,
Yearning to feel the kiss
Of sweet Scottish rain.
Where tropic skies are beaming,
Love sets the heart a-dreaming,
Longing and dreaming for the homeland again.

Surely the Scottish National anthem should be ....

Andy Srewart

I've just come down
From the Isle of Skye
I'm not very big and I'm awful shy
And the lassies shout when I go by
Donald, where's your troosers?

Let the wind blow high
Let the wind blow low
Through the streets, in my kilt I'll go
All the lassies say hello
Donald, where's your troosers?

A lassie took me to a ball
And it was slippery in the hall
And I was feared that I would fall
For I had nae on my troosers

Let the wind blow high
Let the wind blow low
Through the streets, in my kilt I'll go
All the lassies say hello
Donald, where's your troosers?

Now I went down to London Town
And I had some fun in the underground
The ladies turned their heads around
Saying, Donald, where are your trousers?

Let the wind blow high
Let the wind blow low
Through the streets, in my kilt I'll go
All the lassies say hello
Donald, where's your troosers?

To wear the kilt is my delight
It is not wrong I know it's right
The Highlanders would get a fright
If they saw me in the trousers

Let 'em blow high
Let the wind blow low
Through the streetss, in my kilt I'll go
All the lassies say hello
Donald, where's your troosers?

The lassies want me every one
Well, let them catch me if they can
You canna take the breaks
Of a Highland man
And I don't wear the trousers

Let the wind blow high
Let the wind blow low
Through the streets, in my kilt I'll go
All the lassies say hello
Donald, where's your troosers?
Donald, where's your troosers?
Donald, where's yer troosers?...

sweat caroline most people can sing it
Over recent years I've come to detest that song. Same with the 3 Lions it's coming home song. I die a little inside as soon as hear the opening bars.

Been played to death unfortunately.

As for the anthem Land of Hope & Glory or I Vow to Thee My Country for me. Never been a fan of the current one.

After the YK Supreme Court ruling that might be put into the long grass now.

Regarding the national anthems Flower of Scotland & God Save The King (Queen) are both tedious bores in my view, and that's even before you look into the dubious lyrics both contain particularly the latter.

French and Italian anthems are lively and get the pulses racing in a way the English (UK) and Scottish ones simply don't especially when played at the rugby.
