Man Utd v Burnley match thread
Re: Man Utd v Burnley match thread
The big revolution for us, and it's been the case for years, is for us to sign some real pure athleticism in the middle of the pitch. We needed it for most of Dyche's tenure and although the transformation under Kompany has been thorough, canny and successful - some height, strength and general physical presence in midfield would be an enormous addition. Especially vital if and when we make it back to the Premier League.

No one has played badly, just a little reminder of the gulf that exists. Bit of a training session vibe at time.
We’re a good Championship team, they’re a good Premier League team, it’s played out exactly as you’d imagine really and that’s not a criticism.

He’s a very intelligent player and will make the step up.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 9:51 pmI must be watching a different game, I thought he’s been tidy but struggled to get around the pitch against such athletic midfielders.
A combative, athletic CM needed next to him to make up for his lack of physicality.

Agreed. Overshadowed by the opposition and failed to impose himself as much as he does in the championshipNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 9:51 pmI must be watching a different game, I thought he’s been tidy but struggled to get around the pitch against such athletic midfielders.
Re: Man Utd v Burnley match thread
Sounds a bit like we created some good chances but couldn't put them away. Maybe we do need a striker in the window.
Re: Man Utd v Burnley match thread
Pleased with that performance. Some really good play from us and missed some big chances (that you have to take at these places). Lots of good individual performances.

Not unhappy with that. Many really good displays and moments, that deserved a goal. A few things that need cleaning up if this team is to stay together for the PL. Speed of thought and speed of pass being the top two.

Decent enough display just lacking that real quality when it mattered, but no disgrace losing 2-0 at Old Trafford.

Very good shout. Have we been linked with anyone of that ilk since Kompany has been here? Alan Pace was talking about finding a new striker. Sell Barnes to Mousehole FC and that would be good.

Re: Man Utd v Burnley match thread
Good competitive game that, no disgrace we held our own for large parts, missed some glaring chances, couple of sloppy mistakes and a moment of real quality was the difference. Shame we were missing a few key players but a good experience for the team.

Re: Man Utd v Burnley match thread
The fact that we weren't 6-0 down by 20 mins leads some of the bigger nobheads on here to think that we were somehow still in it.
The level of bottling, complete lack of skill, responsiveness and pace from the likes of Brownhill and Cork and just basic mistakes from the likes of THB shows the gulf between the two sides.
This was a bang average man utd team yet we couldn't get near them, furthermore when they decide to break, they leave out entire team standing in their wake.
Go on about VK and his great job etc but go to the thread about how we will fare in the PL and at this rate, it's plain to see.
Thank **** VK didn't play muric. Clearly trying to keep his morale up, it would hav been a 5-0 today so at least he's avoided this trauma.
Oh well, back to the championship....

Decent showing with half of Kompany’s preferred XI missing/rested
Re: Man Utd v Burnley match thread
We could have got something from that game, which is both a positive and a negative.

It would have been different with with AZ, Tella and jrod in the starting line up if possible. But I’m not too dismayed. The championship is the money game.

We played well. Brave performance but the better team won with their quality. Losing Benson is a concern. Good to see we’re going toe to toe tactically against teams like Man Utd though

Tarky’s ears is the same poster who was writing off Kompany and his style of play a few months back. Thick as pigshit.
Thought we did alright there. Should’ve scored at least one. Some silly things to work on but lots to build on.

Just ignore that tarkys head fellow. He’s like this every time we don’t win 5-0. Really odd bloke and I don’t understand why he bothers, clearly can’t handle any emotion, doesn’t seem suited to football.

Re: Man Utd v Burnley match thread
To be honest a decent showing for the most part, although I did think a few of our key performers this season didn't have there best showings. On another day we could have got a result, Barnes had three big chances alone and Churlinov one. That being said, Man United weren't at there best either.

If your a big club player you can scythe players down Antonio ,or you can deliberately kick a player twice Fernandes ,and not get sent off, forgot how many prima donnas there were at Old Trafford.

Re: Man Utd v Burnley match thread
Positives:
Benson looks great even at this level.
Beyer and Maatsen both looked surprisingly comfortable against international forwards.
Midfield had a good game.
Negatives:
A striker has to be a priority on promotion.
Thought Harwood was quite poor and Brownhill looked miles off it.
Enjoyable game and a lot to take from it. Think it’s quite clear the areas we need to improve on if we get promoted.
