It was a petty thing but straight red should be 3 matches out.

Wouldn't be as bad if Blackpool could keep hold of the ball. No pressure on them and still finding white shirts.
That's why they're going to get relegated.

Congrats to Blackburn on being 3rd, 25 games in and having a minus goal difference. I don’t think that’ll ever be repeated.

Oh! dear all going pear-shaped for Rovers early in the 2nd half, conceding then having a man sent off.

Sheff Utd the only side that remotely look like lasting the pace alongside Burnley.

Now 2-1 Boro who we made look ordinary a couple of weeks ago.

He hasn't brought anyone on to replace Buckley. They are short in midfield, or defence if one steps into midfield.

I’m finding it hard not to have at least a tiny tiny tiny bit of sympathy for Rovers for that red card… oh my days that is never ever a straight red.

It’s incredibly harsh but it’s the old adage - don’t do anything silly that gives the referee a decision to make.

But yeah, we’d be bloody fuming.

Not sure how there can be any complaints there. Hitting your opponent in the head with a ball is a red card offence.

Agree, that's very dangerous, could have easily sent the boro player rolling to the floor with concussion.

From watching a bit of Blackpool and Sheff. Utd., I can't help but feel that the quality of football that we have now, week and week out, is of a totally different level. I'm giving up on this game. It's just too painful to watch.

Who said it was dangerous? It’s violent conduct which is a red card offence.

Not at all. It’s ridiculously soft, and stupid, but that’s the player’s fault and it’s violent conduct. And violent conduct is punishable by a red card. Let’s see if they get the suspension overturned on appeal.

Not unduly bothered if Sheff Utd win, the main thing is the 11 point gap to 3rd is maintained and we'll still have a game in hand.

It's not yet getting into uncatchable territory, but it ain't that far off given our relentless form.

Not sure how it can be considered ‘violent’ as there’s zero aggression in the throw. If he’s absolutely whizzed it at him full pelt then fair enough but that’s not the case.

Blackpool are absolutely awful. That second goal was laughably pathetic. McAtee runs through unchallenged from his own 18 yard box.

As I type that they’ve got one back though.

We were still a very new team and made several mistakes. They drew 3-3 at Bramall Lane too.

Thing is, that’s the type of minor ****-housery that could feasibly lead to a massive brawl, so I can understand why/if the laws of the game (which I’m no expert on) would deem it a red card offence, as a kind of preventative measure.

The name Patrick Roberts (scored for Sunderland) rings a bell, like he was destined for big things and a big club bought him for big money or something?

I suppose it’s difficult for officials to have a bar where an action such as that becomes violent. It’s why players are sent off as soon as they raise their hands to their opponent’s head/face. I suspect the difference of views here is that most people would agree that it is a very soft offence to be sent off for, but on the flip side by the letter of the law it is a red card offence, and that is why I would be very surprised if an appeal was withheld.

Sunderland going great guns under Mowbray, now 4-1 up at Wigan who could well be heading straight back to League 1.

Ours to throw away though no matter what others do as long we keep putting the points on the board we'll be fine.

It does illustrate exactly how poor Bruce was doing to have that West Brom squad in the relegation zone.

See my post above to taio. I don’t think the level of force is particularly relevant as the action was in itself violent.
