Ryan Shawcoss on Commentary said he was Stokes best player. He also asked if Stroud had ever refereed before.

Just plain Useless.
Not sure where these championship referees have been found. I feel sorry for division one and two teams as they must be even worse.

Inept. So many identical fouls that resulted in no yellow cards for Stoke players.

He was bloody hopeless. Had no idea when to play advantage and not, blew up incessantly for barely anything, gave bookings out that never were and (bias speaking here, maybe) seemed the definition of a Homer.

I am still trying to work out if the law has changed over how far away a player should stand at a free kick. Every one we had away from their box they were about 2 yards away.

How do they allow these people in the middle.
I looked up the word “inept” and I kid you not this is what it says word for word.
“inept”
adjective: inept
having or showing no skill; clumsy.
"the referee's inept handling of the match"

He kissed the ball on the way out of the tunnel and tried to take centre stage from there.
Absolutely pathetic officials again tonight.

Non-attender so fyi.
I’ve often thought him decent but tonight he was appalling. No complaint over any of our bookings but they should have had many more. Allowing them to stand 3yds of our FK takers and doing nothing about it was shocking. He repeatedly pulled the game back when we had advantageous positions. Just not his night. Thank goodness we escaped with a win.

I watched on the sky red button so won't score. But he was as bad as they come in this league. Shocking.

Another win papers over the fact that we had yet another shocking referee.

After some we’ve had recently, he was an improvement but I remain astonished that he was ever a Premier a league referee.

Precisely what was going on there? Allowed to stand wherever for most FK's

Didn't see the game so obviously can't offer any mark BUT ! Stroud has been around nearly as long as Trevor B****y Kettle and has always been as bad as Kettle whenever I've seen him live or on TV.
Absolutely no surprise to read the comments on this thread

I feared the worst when I saw Stroud was the ref tonight. The guy is clueless. Appalling performance, he missed so much, and let so much go, it was just bizarre. Another in a long long line of buffoons.

Just watch every game you can from PL downwards and nobody ever retreats the 10 yards and the officials do nothing about it.
The Laws of the Game are being ignored throughout football and nothing is being done because the authorities say that it speeds up the game.
I am now awaiting IFAB to come up with a scheme whereby they can scrap 90% of the Laws and just tell officials who they want to win.

You can see why they don’t have VAR in the Championship- the referees make so many clear and obvious errors they’d struggle to finish a game

Thought he was fine, personally. Probably got the Benson decision wrong but other than that he got most things right I thought.
The problem with this feature is its increasingly becoming a hook for people to air their contempt for referees, rather than judge a single performance objectively. Eg, the fact Stroud was once a PL ref, and whether he deserved to be or not, is irrelevant to how he did last night. Elsewhere he's described as a "homer" (I mean, come on) and wanting to be the centre of attention. Its all emotional nonsense rather than reasonable analysis.
The two main criticisms made seem to be his use of advantage (hard judgment, because it involves guessing how play will develop) and the fact Stoke ****** about a bit at set plays to slow them down - something we did for 5 years in the Premier League without really being pulled up.

Whilst I would like to think that this is not the case, with most people submitting ratings, Spice, I do have concerns about how some use the feature. Rating a ref 3,3,3,3 for example, does seem ridiculous, as even the shockers only make a handful of very bad calls.

Indeed, John. He got one big decision wrong last night- and personally I can understand that call too as Benson stumbled on a couple of yards and the linesman looked to have the better view - Stroud appeared to look to the lino for help but didn't get it.
Its all become a bit daft. Which is unfortunate because when it was done sensibly it was an interesting feature. As I say it's become a reflection of the general hostility towards referees rather than a rational exercise.
