Its obviously looking good at this point. But with so many games yet to play if we have injuries to key players or suspensions our lead could be eroded and become vulnerable to a team having a decent run in.

Winning promotion at Ewood truly would be a once in a lifetime football experience. You'd die happy being able to remember a moment like that.

Win 8
Draw 2
Lose 3
gives us 26 more points making it a running total of 79, very possible we could be promoted at B@stards

That match and result tonight had promotion all over it.
Re: We're up
Virtually no chance that 82 will be enough to guarantee promotion with 7 games left. You'd be relying on no-one else having more than 60 at that stage, and surely someone's going to get 25 or so points out of the next 14 games.AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 10:52 pm13 games up to and including the game at Deadwood

Re: We're up
Made it my new-year's resolution last year (so, technically this year???) to do more of this bold, brash, over-confident declarations about football lark, and I was like, "we're down, it's over" back in about March or something, so I've got a 1/1, 100% perfect record on this, trust me, I'm gifted at this.CombatClaret wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 11:22 pmOP needs to see his doctor. I also said that whoever beats France wins the World Cup. Now, in fairness, I said it in the first half of the final, but still, I was technically correct.

I don’t think we will, apart from defeat on the opening day, Reading went on an unbeaten run until Feb, losing against Luton, then undefeated again until the end of the season. We were a bit sticky at the start of the season and that were the opportunity was lost.
There’s 116 points available at the moment though

Do feel the next two are massive games (before a tougher run). If we could win those while the team is fit, get to the ~60 pts mark mid Jan, and it’d be done.

Re: We're up
Ignoring the 3rd place team because they are in a false position, we are 16 points ahead of the play-off places. With 21 games to go, that equates to a 0.76 points per game ("PPG") advantage.
If we assume the best of the rest manage a PPG of 2.00 for the remainder of the season, we need 26 points to go up, at a PPG of 1.23. By way of example, 7 wins, 7 draws and 7 defeats gives us 28 points (1.33 PPG).
I can normally find a reason to be fearful but not this season. Unless...one of Hurstwood_Claret's algorithms says otherwise!

The team in third have 63 points they could get. We are 14 points ahead. Therefore any combination of points we gain and points they drop that add up to 49 and we are up on goal difference add another point to be sure to be sure.

25 points from 14 is an 82 point season. Not unreasonable to hope a rival fails to get that tally. 22 sides have failed to do that so far, over 25 games (I actually think WBA and Boro will, but it is not “virtually no chance”).dsr wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 11:19 pmVirtually no chance that 82 will be enough to guarantee promotion with 7 games left. I'm not saying there is virtually no chance that another club will get 82 points. I am saying that there is virtually no chance that 82 points will be mathematically certain of promotion with 7 games to play.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Sat Dec 31, 2022 1:04 am25 points from 14 is an 82 point season. Very confident but I'm waiting for the points gap (currently 15 with GD) to equal or exceed the games left (21) as it's pretty much done then.

Until then we continue to be as professional and as focused as VK seems to insist upon.
Talk of promotion and the title is natural enough but we should be doing that with some class, not carping about we're going to do this and we're going to do that.
Leave that to the Rovers and the Derbys of this world.

Re: We're up
We’ve got 53 points. We’re probably going to need at least another 30.
It’s looking good, but we’re thin through the spine of the team and the threat of injury to a few key players means it’s way too early for some of the nonsense that’s been posted on there these past few weeks.

Spot on, especially with a more difficult looking run coming up through Jan - mid Feb. I’d hate to not have Jay Rod available for that (plus Cork with a 2 game ban coming up).agreenwood wrote: ↑Sat Dec 31, 2022 9:05 amWe’ve got 53 points. We’re probably going to need at least another 30.
