Kompany/Churlinov
Let’s not be using this thread as a means for slating folk, but more just looking for discussion, cause y’know, it’s good to talk.
For me: Not entirely sure I agreed with the decision to start Churlinov in this particular fixture. From VK’s post-match presser he seems well aware of the old Stoke mantra and it indeed turned out to be a bit of a tricky one for him.
There were a few little flicks that exhibited good control and nous from DC but he was on the out(off?)side looking in for most of his time on the pitch. I’m sure there’s more to come from him, any road.
I’d have assumed Tella, fresh from his goal and just half an hour or so’s action may v Brum may have been a better option to start. In my mind his pace could have stretched the defence for an hour and then DC could have come on and brought his ability to work with the ball in tight spaces against tiring defenders.
Easy as that says I, expertly, as I tuck into my 4th cherry vodka and cherry coke of the evening and brush pastry crumbs off my dressing gown.
What do you lot reckon?

I reckon stoke tried to shithouse us in the same way dyche teams used to shithouse everyone else.
Seems we have learned how to manage it. Bringing really good strong and clever legs on to deal with the last half hour is a real pleasure to see.
We’ll know more after sheff Utd at home.

Re: Kompany/Churlinov
We have a big squad and this close run of games between Boxing Day (the 27th in our case) and the New Years Bank Holiday is clearly a moment we need to utilise it as it’s game game game in quick succession.
Churlinov did no worse tonight against the right back/right CB than Zaroury. Sometimes you just say ‘fair play’, Stoke handled our left hand side well. Maatsen also barely got onto the overlap due to their hard work.
Plenty of time for Darko (and Twine) to get opportunities in games more suitable for their style.

Kompany on Churlinov after the game
"I am fairly relaxed, you have to play players to see them. I knew it was going to be a tough test today and physically he got through it and I am sure there will more to come from him. It was a difficult first half for everyone and so it is difficult to assess him objectively."
Spot on as usual

I’d not seen that part of the interview Vegas, thank you for posting that. that’s fair enough comment from VK and I suppose you could argue ‘when is the right time’.

Re: Kompany/Churlinov
It's just modern squad rotation. If you're going to make proper use of your squad so you can have your best players play, say, 150 mins in a week rather than 270 mins, you necessarily are at some point in all that going to have a weaker team on the field than you're otherwise capable of putting out, and if you're good enough you still get the job done.

Everyone thought Benson was shite at first but he is probably the best player in the league. Give him time

He has had a long layoff and needs competitive games, to tune up.

Re: Kompany/Churlinov
I just shake my head at people who pass judgement on anyone after 60 mins. The lad's in need of the game time, and will only improve. It doesn't matter if he doesn't measure up to Zaroury, or anyone else. We need all of our squad ready to play a part, that means using them. I'm confident he is a good player, VK knows what he is doing.

Re: Kompany/Churlinov
The gaffer said that it’s important to rotate the squad ( a non existent concept under Dyche) and that we should expect to see a fresh line up vs Swansea.
So expect to see Tella, Anas and Jayrod start with JBG probably in for Cork.

Re: Kompany/Churlinov
I wondered if he was starting as he's a bit bigger and a bit better in the air than the alternatives.

Re: Kompany/Churlinov
Benson first half at Watford, zaroury first half at Coventry, neither looked good and look at them now, churlinov has something about him that will come good.
Give churlinov, twine and bastien 90min against Bournemouth in cup

I fully trust Kompany in his choice of players and substitutions, he seems to have a better idea of what he is doing than anybody on this site thankfully!
