Roberts
Re: Roberts
Only human to have one eye on the world cup, but yeah I agree with those saying he should have just kept it to himself.

Re: Roberts
I like honesty from players. Any one of us in the same situation would be the same. Careful what you wish for, or we'll go back to the usual insipid "game of two halves", "tough place to come but we give it 110%" bs

Fully agree, he probably means he wasn’t at the races and now realises in hindsight the reasons why

It's good too as we now to drop him in the weeks immediately preceding Euro 2024

Certainly understandable, but some things are better left unsaid.

Re: Roberts
This is exactly why footballers give bland generic answers to questions.
A hint of honesty, from a Welshman talking about representing his country in the 1st world cup in his lifetime and every chance it will be his last chance too distracted him.

Nothing wrong with a bit of honesty. can’t fault his effort, commitment and performances since he’s been back.

Its his job. I'm sure many of us aren't supposed to post on here during work hours, for example

Re: Roberts
Sorry, meant deleted my post - nothing wrong with honesty but quote implied he wasn’t putting the effort in. Anyway, never mind! I think a few other players would’ve had some serious heat if they’d said similar.

Re: Roberts
I don't think they would at this point in time, given we're top of the league and flying. But I'm sure a couple of mistakes and there'd be enough folk using this as a stick to beat Roberts with.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 3:05 pmSorry, meant deleted my post - nothing wrong with honesty but quote implied he wasn’t putting the effort in. I have no issue with that quote from him and I have no issue with his performances for us pre and post World Cup.

Re: Roberts
Absolutely, Burnley, I don't think Kompany had either, leaving him out for the games in the run up to the WC.

It doesn’t look good because it isn’t good , why try and make excuses, remember who pays his wages .

Re: Roberts
He was in the same boat as any English or Welshman due to play in the WC, and fully understandable
Would rather read things like this than listen to players coming OOC saying they are giving a lot of thought to their revised contract, and then just move on at the end of the season

Re: Roberts
Good to see he's a normal human like the rest of us.
I'd call him a liar if he said it hadn't been on his mind

Re: Roberts
Bit of a silly comment really… He could have simply said he’d not been happy with his form.
Quite how long he’d had his eye on the World Cup, I don’t, but based on most of his performances, he’s been thinking about the World Cup since he arrived with us.
Hopefully his performance in the last game will become much more of a regular occurrence as that’s much more like what I was expecting from him.

Re: Roberts
Just watched his press conference on Clarets+, that tweet has unfortunately misquoted him (probably for the sake of getting within the word count)
The actual quote in full: "Before the World Cup, perhaps I wasn't playing as well as I would've liked and things weren't coming off for me, I did have half an eye on the World Cup thinking: 'I'm not in the team, I'm not playing well, am I going to miss out on the World Cup?' But now that's done and dusted, I'm back and whenever I do get the chance to play, luckily for me Vitinho has been out so I've been playing so all I can do is try my best..."
No surprise they've deleted that tweet, but you can't delete the screenshots...

Re: Roberts
Yep this is exactly what I was referring to and thought would be the case with my initial post on this matter. Poor by the admin team tbh as their paraphrasing was miles off what he’s said.highamclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 4:51 pmJust watched his press conference on Clarets+, that tweet has unfortunately misquoted him (probably for the sake of getting within the word count)

Fair play. That does read differently to what the club put out.

Good job it got deleted. Connor would be rightly very disappointed with that paraphrasing.

Re: Roberts
Good to see that Connor Roberts shares the same sentiment as Wout Weghorst: important for both of them to represent their respective countries in the world cup.highamclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 4:51 pmJust watched his press conference on Clarets+, that tweet has unfortunately misquoted him (probably for the sake of getting within the word count)

Re: Roberts
Fair play Connor. Like a lot of others I admire his honesty and I don't feel there was any need to delete his quote. He has been fantastic since he returned and on recent form he is the number 1 choice at right back for me even when Vitinho is fit. I was a little worried how he would be at Swansea on Monday returning to his boyhood club for the first time since he left. My fears were unfounded as I thought after an initial 10 minutes where he looked to be a little overwhelmed playing ultra safe, he put in another very solid performance against the club he loves and supports. Very professional.
