Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Seems very fanciful even for the Twitter loons . Though hope he does well anywhere, as we need a good fee ,though he was mainly awful for us .
It’s a top fee and good riddance we need though ,not misty eyed whimsy about “ what he’d be like in this team “

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
You would hope not. I would image he would have to be recalled which would bring an end to any agreement with them.
I wouldn't be surprised though, if we had to pay them to end the loan deal early.

How does this work if true? UTD to negotiate with us, not Besiktas right?

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
He makes sense as a decent, short term squad option for United. Despite what some on here would have you think, he has plenty of ability. I said the other week I’d have him back here in a breath. This should hopefully be a boost in terms of value - if he puts in a decent stint, it’ll appreciate markedly.

Mercato, Athletic, GFFN etc etc. All decent sources, nothing from Tavolieri or Romano yet though

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
He had a few nice touches here and there, playing for a manager who didn't want to use him properly it must be said, and properly ran himself into the ground against Everton at home, but other than that he didn't really do much more for us in the second half of the season than Chris Wood did for us in the first.equinox wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 7:06 pmThey signed Ighalo not long ago and Weghorst is a better player than him.
Weghorst is a good, well respected player you know, people need to see beyond their utter disbelief that someone didn't want to play in the Championship, which let's be honest is a terrible standard.

We'd end up with their current Neil Wood.

Andy Jones reporting it makes it pretty much certain.
edit: certain in the sense the talks have been had, not that any deal is yet done, I should add.

Besiktas would have to agree to break the deal and considering he's doing decently there I'd be surprised if they would.

Wait...
Who loaning him out? Us or Beskitas?
Can a loan club loan a loanee out to another club?

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
We'd basically be compensating them, so the calculation would be something like: any extra over the 10m euros Besiktas were to pay that we believe we can can squeeze out of UTD in loan fees and buy obligations over and above what we would need to give to Besiktas in compensation for terminating the contract we've signed with them.KefkaClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 7:19 pmBesiktas would have to agree to break the deal and considering he's doing decently there I'd be surprised if they would.
Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
We recall, compensate Besiktas, then loan him to UTD. He isn't Besiktas's to loan anywhere, his registration is with Burnley so only we can sell or loan him anywhere.Hurstwood_Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 7:22 pmWait...

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Besiktas were going to pay 10m euros in the summer. If UTD ask to loan him from us, we'd need to recall him from Besiktas. I'm totally speculating, but it would seem reasonable to me that for us to tear up that contract with Besiktas they'd be entitled to compensation, if not for the recall then certainly for ending the buy-agreement. So say (totally hypothetical figure) we compensate Besiktas £2m euros. If we can get a buy clause of, say, 15m euros from UTD then we get 15m minus the 2m paid to Besiktas, so 13m, which is 3m more than we would have got from the original deal. But I'm making assumptions all over the place, namely that UTD want him in the summer, and not just until the end of the season.

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
I remember last season saying he was a good player playing in a bad system. He was never a target man, but because he’s over 6ft 2 Dyche insisted on playing him like that!
There were so many on here last season saying they didn’t rate him…just shows how clueless a lot of football fans are.

Bear in mind ten Hag will know a fair bit about him.
Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Hmm, same buy clause as Besiktas. Maybe we squeeze out a loan fee from UTD that covers any compensation to Besiktas?RVclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 7:33 pmhttps://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/stat ... _Kq6vpscYQ

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Based on our precarious position when he signed, I would have thought he and his agent would have inserted a relegation release clause into his contract at the time
Another possible complication ?

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
got nothing much to do with how many but who follows
Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
He's similar in so many ways (except overall ability lol) to Edin Dzeko, and that might work at UTD under ETH, but at City Pep couldn't wait to move him on, and given we're like City 2.0 I'm not sure he fits in to how we play now. We could do with a more fluid forward, like a Burnley-tier Firmino.

It’s also being reported on Sky.
Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
I’m wondering if it’s more a case of a beer for both parties sort of deal. We recoup the majority of the fee (perhaps a bit more than with loan fees?) and we all move on?No Ney Never wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 7:48 pmAm I the only one who thinks 10m in today's market for a player with his ability seems cheap?

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Or it is just a ploy to break the beskitas deal and get him back in our squad
Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Age and demand playing a big part, I think. We don't want him, nobody in the PL wanted him, only Turkey wanted him at the time, and he's not getting any younger. If we can get our money back we can breathe a sigh of relief, because he's contracted for a few more years and he'll add very little compared with how that money could be spent elsewhere. No Ney Never wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 7:48 pmAm I the only one who thinks 10m in today's market for a player with his ability seems cheap?

Seems to me Besiktas can't afford to pay the transfer fee at the end of the loan we agreed, so he is going elsewhere.

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
It’ll only be a loan to Man Utd if it comes off, it’s in the written press that Man Utd will not sanction any permanent transfer this window.
If we can get a mandatory obligation to buy for, say, £10m, then that would look to be a pretty decent deal for us.
Besiktas’s clause to buy him is an option, not an obligation. I’m sure we’re only looking at a deal which is going to help us one way or another - bigger loan fee, obligation to buy or an option on a Man Utd youngster, for example.

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
I’d love this to happen, with or without any fee.
His only “crime” was in an interview for his cultural straight-forwardness to not dress up that he could move to a nation’s leading league in order to preserve his World Cup interests.
Mismanaged, misunderstood by our own claret-spectacled bigots, and an amazing opportunity for him to give those of you who gave him crap the opportunity to rub it back in your faces. And I include Roberts in that too.
As a select few have said, he would murder the Jay-Rod/Barnes role in this Kompany team

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
I wouldn’t necessarily include an option to buy.
He’ll still only be 30 in May/June and a good spell at United will see his value rise above £10m.

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Looked superb when we pkayex on the ground for him for a few games but i'm wary of his character.
Might be nothing but it was notable how none of his Besiktas team mates came to celebrate or 'say goodbye' with him in the linked goal celebration.
Not worth the risk bringing him back into our camp in my view.

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Absolute win/win this if it happens. Gets him fully up to speed with English football just in time for next season - and maximises our chances of getting a good fee for him if he isn't to be a Burnley player next season.
I reckon he'd do well in this system next season if he's with us.
