Re: January transfer window rumours.
I read today that Vincent Aboubakar has had his contract terminated to make way for Ronaldo in the Al Nassr squad.
You would imagine his (previous) contract would be large to say the least and perhaps his demands would be out of reach but an interesting proposition on a free transfer, surely.

A surprising lack of transfer gossip around us at the minute. (incomings)

SSN banner saying we've enquired about Semenyo at Bristol City.
I don't know if they have any more knowledge, or just regurgitating the rumours.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
From Sky Sports re. Semenyo
‘Burnley have inquired about signing Bristol City striker Antoine Semenyo.
Bournemouth have also watched the 23-year-old but are not thought to be strongly interested at this stage.
Bristol City value him in the region £12m – even though he is technically out of contract in the summer.
His contract has an option to be extended by a further year.
Semenyo has six caps and a goal for Ghana.
He has scored four goals in 21 Championship appearances so far this term.
This could be a move more neccesary if Manchester United's interest in signing striker Wout Weghorst on on loan intensifies’
Not sure why the Weghorst thing has anything to do with it.

The club need to seriously consider flipping the recruitment strategy on its head and signing players based on their reveal video potential. Perhaps come up with the video concept first then identify suitable targets.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 12:22 pmI'm not even interested in the transfers, just the transfer reveal video.......

1: Man U might be paying a nice sum, which could help fund a bid for Semenyo
2: The Weghorst to Man U transfer could massively reduce the chances of him being here next season. Which means we need another striker

Only 9 of those 21 have been starts.
8 goals 12 assists last season in 31 (23 starts).
22 year old, has pace, power and skill.
12m probably a touch steep still imo, but probably is the going rate these days in the Champ.

Good player for sure. Never really felt there was a Prem player in there tbh, which has been proven to be the case at Forest (so far).
I’d rather we bought than loaned anymore now - and think we’re at our Matchday loan limit in any event?

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I think the Championship prices are crazy. Coventrys valuation of Gyokeres being another example.
When you look at how many goals Armstrong scored in the championship you realise how easy it would be to spend big on a complete duff! Eze, Olise, Benrahma, etc - have hardly set the world alight either.
I watched Anderlecht play Union SG last night. The quality on display was unbelievable compared to the Championship. There’s just no way I’d be spending £12m-£20m on a Championship striker when there’s options in that league (and Europe generally) at half or a third of the price.
Incidentally, Verbruggen started and despite conceding 3 late goals (he could do nothing about) looked absolute quality. Easy to see why we wanted him. Couple of outstanding saves, commanded very well (albeit was rarely under any pressure when doing so) and his kicks were HUGE. One landed near the corner flag

Yeah see what you’re saying. There are more technical players in that league I’d say. Prices in the Champ are daft, I saw Rovers are still demanding 15m for Diaz despite him being out of contract in the summer. I rate Gyokeres but not sure I’d be splashing the 18m Coventry supposedly want.NewClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 6:52 pmI think the Championship prices are crazy. Yes, mental, especially since they have Fabio Silva. I watched to see how Verschaeren played but it was Verbruggen that caught the eye. Anderlecht looked very disjointed. Don’t see us spending 12mil on a striker even if most of it is in add ons, rumours of forest bidding 15mil plus toffolo for gyorekes which could ultimately move surridge further down the pecking order which might mean a sale of loan late in the window

I agree. I think Benson, Zaroury, beyer etc. are proof that the talent is out there in Europe for a fraction of the price. The more I think about it the more I think there’s no way we’ll sign a striker from the championship. We have proven we won’t be held to ransom for championship players with Ohare, obafemi and wiles.NewClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 6:52 pmI think the Championship prices are crazy. Yes, you don’t want the big clubs taking your top players for peanuts and being bullied, but overpricing them means they will run their contracts down and they will start downing tools, losing value or walking for nothing.
I’m not sure how you resolve it really, perhaps let your season ticket holders decide via a vote

The possible deal for Hjalmar Ekdal, keeps getting closer. As a swede living in Norway I follow the news from sweden on a daily basis. He today says that it would be really awesome to join Burnley. The fee has been reported as EUR 3 000 000.
He also played yesterday the full game as Sweden beat Finalnd 2-0.

Sounds promising, have you seen him play much?mikaelj wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 8:55 amThe possible deal for Hjalmar Ekdal, keeps getting closer. As a swede living in Norway I follow the news from sweden on a daily basis. He today says that it would be really awesome to join Burnley. The fee has been reported as EUR 3 000 000.
He also played yesterday the full game as Sweden beat Finalnd 2-0.

Yes quite a bit. He i s a late bloomer in a way. He played for my favourite swedish club Hammarby until 2020 but didn't get a sniff in. The sold him to fierce rivals Djurgården for around £ 60 000. From then he hasn't looked back. A cultured central defender who is good with both feet and in the air. Could be a shrewed signing i think. May take a while to settle but for the price I think he is worth a punt.

In addition, I'm confident that we could achieve promotion and almost certainly the Championship title too, without our buying anyone. If the Weghorst to Manchester United deal happens, then come June he'll be back in our fold, either to add to our squad, or sell on to fund a replacement striker that we do fancy.ArthurNohair wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 7:53 amI agree. I think Benson, Zaroury, beyer etc. are proof that the talent is out there in Europe for a fraction of the price. The more I think about it the more I think there’s no way we’ll sign a striker from the championship. We have proven we won’t be held to ransom for championship players with Ohare, obafemi and wiles.

I’ve only watched a YouTube video but he looked quality - so surprising to hear he’s a late bloomer. Hoping this comes off, but with THB’s injury I’m also hoping we keep McNally, who I thought looked good against PL opposition.
