Seems unlikely if some of the figures being quoted are true.

Has he still got his iPad? He may need that if he is sulking on their bench? ;)

What sort of precedent does that set? Ridiculous.

If Wout joins Man Utd he could play for his fifth team in less than 12 months.

I don't believe Weghorst has made that offer. Not only because the figure could be more than his annual net pay but it just gives Besiktas, who hardly need it, even more encouragement. If he was daft enough to say it I could see Besiktas squeezing Man U for as much as they could possibly get and, no matter how high, knocking on Wout's door for another €0.5m because he has said he will contribute. It would be quite funny and I would have a sneaking admiration for Besiktas if we weren't impacted by how it plays out.

Similar admittedly, but not quite the same. Perez was contributing to his transfer fee.
Weghorst is offering to compensate a club, but that club doesn't hold his contract.
There are pitfalls all over this... if it's even true.

Besiktas have been playing Johnny Big Man even since before WW went there. Since he has been there there has been numerous tweets saying they are not obliged to buy him, and if they wanted they will get the transfer fee down to what they wanted to pay, not the reported €10 million. I hope it gets sorted and goes to Man United and scores plenty, then we get a massive fee for him in the summer.

can't see him having the mentality to want to do that, though I would personally like to see him in our set up. For him it's like a football equivalent of Love Island.... he came to the wholesome chick in Burnley FC because it checked a lot of boxes.... but when it came to it the lure of the new, hotter chick, Besiktas, was enough to draw him away from the fuzzy warmth..... and then the really hot chick arrived - a proper head-turner, the kind of opportunity you wouldn't ordinarily get. He's just not going back to that original chick

Turkish journo on Twitter (over a 100k followers) is reporting that Weghorst is willing to pay the loan termination fee out of his own pocket if Besiktas refuse to budge.
Is this the termination fee they deny exists? :?

just on a point of technicality...... is WW "registered" with us currently, or just with Besiktas? I'm assuming the latter, because can't you be registered for three within a season, but only play for two of them?

Is it possible that the fee Weghorst has supposedly offered to pay the personal penalty should he effectively quit his job? This would be in his contract with Besiktas and be different to a termination fee in the contract between the two clubs.

That’s a fair point.

He’s probably been sensible enough to ensure he had an escape clause even if we weren’t.

Will Besiktas have a contract with him? Surely the contract Besiktas have is with us and we have the contract with Weghorst?

I'm almost certain that Weghorst will have entered into a contract with Besiktas, he's effectively under their employment, working at their place of work and representing their brand etc. That said I'm no employment lawyer.

Presumably players' contracts include a termination fee, if Wout decides to walk away from Burnley for example he would need to compensate Burnley. What happens if he decides to walk away from his loan agreement at Besiktas? I expect in this case he would be breaking the terms of his contact with Burnley but without an agreement with Besiktas there is nothing to protect them.

I suspect it's Weghorst that's looking to terminate the agreement more than anyone else. Nowt dumber than a club holding on to an unhappy player

It doesn't really matter whose contract is with who. Basically the position is that Burnley have a contract with Besiktas to loan Weghorst to them, and one or other club has a contract with Weghorst to pay his wage; if Man United want to sign him, then they need to work out a deal whereby Besiktas get something, Burnley get something, Weghorst gets something. How the money swills around the pot is not all that relevant. It's just a matter of United agreeing to pay enough to make everyone happy.

Weghorst is the one with least clout because he can't break his contract and keep playing. Besiktas have clout because they have the player at present but with the downside that he (allegedly) doesn't want to play for them any more. Burnley have clout because we're win-win - if a deal can't be agreed then our original deal still stands.

Would be insane / weak if we 'lost' here.

For me, this just brings more certainty / competitive tension to getting the 10m Euro Buy Option paid, whether that be by Besiktas (now unlikely), or Man U.

Any deviation from this (like early release costs), Man U should pick up.

Previously we were at the behest of Besiktas, who come across as poor players (not due to this part of the situation, but due to the initial noises of trying to get him very cheap if we did not go up and were more desperate).

As pointed out, Besiktas also now have the issue of an unhappy player if they dig their heels in.

Going by our recent transfer dealings, Pope fee aside, nothing to suggest Alan Pace et al are poor negotiators. Opposite in fact.

I gave Weghorst a bit of slack when he wanted his move to Besiktas so he could play at the world cup, although I'd hardly call the Turkish league better quality than the Championship. I possibly expected him to come back next season had we gone up and put himself back in the Premier league shop window. He pretty much engineered his own move there sulking and stropping and now he's trying to engineer his own move back to the premier league. The guys an absolute clown and to be honest I'd not want him anywhere Burnley FC ever again.

The compensation Wout will have said he will pay will be the rest of his loan fee for 6 months, whether he can do that is a different matter.

I said on another topic about this guy that I wouldn't want him back anytime soon and a few posters I remember saying that they would I wonder if they have changed their minds now after he wants to cut short is loan move to want a move to Man Utd on loan . I just hope Pace can get the best deal for our club and get rid of him as he's a bad apple In my eyes. UTC 👍

Yep.

We would do well to 'lose' here. I just think the 'win' is getting the final fee from Man U is far more reliable than those theives at Besiktas. Again, comment based on what came out of their Chairman's mouth a few months ago.

Karma here with what's happened / happening.

I just don't see how we lose here

He's either on loan at Besiktas or Man Utd, and his wages are covered and we get a loan fee either way

The ideal solution is to sell him to Man United or Besiktas this window to fund a replacement

Surely no way back for him in Turkey now. Knowing how partisan the crowds are at ‘The Big 3’, you can’t imagine they’ll be best pleased at Wout trying to bail on them early. Besiktas are just putting what they need to put in the media to strengthen their position and ensure they get the maximum out of this from United. I would be shocked if this didn’t happen at this point .

Agreed. There has to be some benefit for us to warrant the hassle.

Best case scenario we get a higher loan fee or better yet a permanent transfer at a higher fee than previously agreed with Besiktas (even though I'd put money on them wanting to renegotiate this if the Man Utd thing didn't crop up).
Absolute worst case scenario is we put him in the shop window at a higher calibre club for a summer sale.

If we're having to do a lot of the groundwork on United's behalf, you'd like to hope they might sling us a player on loan come the summer.

The guy hasn't said anything about leaving Besiktas but he's a clown for engineering a move to Man United? There's no evidence of that at all.

Man United are one of the biggest clubs in the world, most people born in the 90s will dream of playing for Man United. It's an absolute dream move that will come around once in Wout's career, he should be absolutely desperate to take it imo, I'd question his ambition if he'd rather sit in Turkey than sign for Man United.

The Turkish league is a graveyard shift (Dele Alli is a case in point). I don’t think you can blame him, or anyone in his position, for wanting out if Besiktas for a team like Man Utd.

You mean no evidence other than him waving and saying bye bye to the fans ?
Other than the owner coming out with a number of statements about wanting compensation if he leaves to go to United ?
And other than every single major media outlet reporting this as one of their main transfer news stories since the weekend ?

It’s pretty safe to assume that neither Burnley or Beskitas instigated this move. Which leaves all the evidence pointing to both Wout and United. Which one of them approached who first is irrelevant really as it’s clear they both want it - and of course why wouldn’t you not want it if you are Wout ?

This guy’s arrogance knows no bounds tbh.

Stropping at Watford
Poorly worded leaving message when going to Besiktas
Mouthing goodbye to Besiktas like some kind of Disney love message when you are under contract with months left
Suggesting he will pay his own way out of a contract after said love message to his loan club (reminds me of Richard Gere paying Julia Roberts for the love that developed in that financially motivated relationship)

The last person we need added to our wonderful team and back in our club is this guy. Bad apple doesn’t even scratch the surface.

Burnley fans are so funny.

Next season when Burnley are promoted, we will sign some new players, with most signing a relegation clause contract.
Either that or Pace will desperately try and sell them to balance the books like he did the last lot.

Here's 18 months warning for the drama queen's to process it, if we get relegated again.

Of course the nonsense written about him being a bad apple for wanting to go to Man Utd should also be taken into account when we are interested in a player. Any player that is at another club and we show an interest in should be avoided if he expresses a wish to join us as he is clearly a bad apple also.

It's like reading comments from dumped immature teenagers at times

There is no doubt he is like the man he is replacing at United for being self absorbed. Personally I found it fascinating how no Besiktas players ran over to him when he scored, probably they found out that day before the game. If I recall there was talk of upset back at Wolfsburg as well. Then we have his fallout with Roberts, the sulk on the bench, the arguments with Messi, the anti vaxxer stuff before he joined us. This is a guy who is guaranteed headlines one way or the other.

No way will he be Vincent’s cup of tea, even though he is good enough to score a few goals.

What I find amazing though that this story demonstrates is how United are like we were - a side refusing to buy anyone in case it affects the sale value (bizarrely, after they spent £200m last summer). We’ve done our story on that to death, but imagine those United fans, you think you follow the world’s best team and your main target is a guy who couldn’t get in the Burnley team at the end of last season. Quite astonishing how far that club has fallen. Their fans are lapping it up too (for now), sounding like they are loving this loan, I find it all rather amusing.

He is desperate for this move and sources now suggesting he is even prepared to dip into his pocket to pay Besiktas part of the loan compensation fee

Calm down we haven’t been promoted yet
