Great defender, but wrong age and can't play out from the back very well.

For those with short memories (yes, even by UTC standards) we signed him when he was a ball playing CH from Brentford

I think he'd fit into our system perfectly fine

I’ll have to check the date because I keep thinking we’re in May when I read this board!!! Everton are not down yet and we are not up.

I’m grateful to Tarks for the part he played in a great era, but looking forward to a new one.

Is it as simple as whether he’d be the best defender in our team? What if Kompany didn’t feel he’d be as effective on the ball as a lesser defender?

It’s not dissimilar to the Muric discussions. There are probably safer goalkeepers out there, but are they as effective during our spells with the ball.

Next season we will need an out and out defender and a keeper who's capable of making save after save.

It won't all be about keep ball in the big league.

When and if we get promoted, next year we will have played 8 of the last 10 seasons in the Premier League.

For me that makes us an established Premier League club, the caveat to that is that we have a new owner and management team (the manager and assistant both played at the top of that league though), plus new players with little experience at that level.

So I can see arguments both sides but when promoted I would argue we are a bigger draw than (say) Forest, Bournemouth, Fulham and Brentford. Time will tell.

It would be good to see him joining up with Ben Mee at Brentford.
I reckon THB will do another season loan with us in the Prem.

He was brilliant for us and we certainly got our monies worth, regardless of him leave for free.

Like a rock in defence, and could also play a bit too. When he first arrived there was talk he might fill a gap in defensive midfield if needed, and he’d played in a good footballing side at Brentford. Dyche coached it out of him and got him thinking defence first.

His wages and age would definitely make him a non-starter for us again though. Move on.

I can see where you’re coming from but in terms of being established m, we are effectively back to square one, once promoted.

Premier League regulars, yes. Established no.

As for Tarkowski - in the top three centre halves I’ve seen in my time watching Burnley. I don’t think I’d want him back though. We’ve all moved on.

Virgil van Dijk is a year older. Would you turn him down as being too old for us?

'Established' means nothing anyway. Stoke, West Brom and Sunderland were all 'established' Prem clubs. A load of injuries, the wrong manager or an owner tightening the purse strings and you're gone. It'll be Leicester or Southampton next.

And yes, I'd have Tarkowski back because he'll be a very good Premier League defender for another 2 or 3 years yet, and the idea he couldn't knock a pass into midfield or out wide is ridiculous. Did anyone even watch him play?

Come on Spijed, you must be aware that the club has gone through a big change over the past few months where we aren’t offering contracts to aging players, and are instead focused on bringing in talent with likely sell on value/profit? Tarks does not fall into that category.

VVD, on a side note, is nothing like he was prior to his injury, and even Liverpool fans are questioning whether they need to think about moving him (and others) on and bringing younger players in.

Aside from the top 6 + probably Newcastle now (replacing Everton), there really is no such thing as established. The other 13 clubs just scrapping to survive, 1 or 2 bad transfer windows/bad managerial appointments and it's relegation.
