Has Seelt been near the PSV first team? According to Wiki he's only ever been in their reserve/U23 side (Jong PSV), who play in the Dutch second tier.

seems strange considering he was on our bench todayHedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 9:08 pmEgan-Riley to be included in a deal for the lad from PSV according to a post from a PSV fan site on twitter

It seems strange even if he wasn't. But it does happen when you sign players and you change your mind so who knows.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
If its a fan post it might be speculative- there's a report somewhere that PSV might want Egan Riley that I've seen which speculates on the possibility of a swap but there's no suggestion Burnley are willing.
I'd be really surprised if Egan Riley went anywhere. He looks to me like a player Kompany is trying to mould, probably into a midfielder. That takes a bit of time but the glimpses so far have looked positive to me. It'd be no surprise to see him deputise for Cork in the upcoming games and every now and again a player comes into his own after promotion- presuming we see this through, Egan Riley could easily be that sort of player.

At 20 VK might feel Egan-Riley needs game time. Dutch football could be a good education for him and if it helps in getting a player in that VK fancies I’m all for it.

If Egan-Riley leaves I bet it’s only a loan, no way we’d be letting him out for good I don’t think. Only just 20 is it? Brief appearances he’s had he looks like he has a good future in My opinion.

I’d be surprised to see him go, we seemed to pounce for him last minute before he joined Coventry if I remember rightly . I might have that wrong but it rings a bell for some reason .

Hope we get it wrapped up early doors this week and he can make the bench for Friday.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
£3m for Obefami is a pretty sweet deal if it comes off. Certainly saved ourselves a lot of money from the original asking price, hope it happens and he proves his worth to the club. VK obviously thinks he's the striker we need so that will do for me.claretandy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 8:06 amNixon reporting that we are close to agreeing a 3m deal for Obefemi.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
As you say, would be a decent price and would obviously trust Kompany and his brilliant track record so far. That aside, while ok at this level, I struggle to see how Obefemi would be good enough for us next season which is what we are now planning for.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Whoever we get up front, it’ll be good to get someone who constantly tries to get shots off from around the 20 yard/metre range. Obafemi ticks that box.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Not sure if you missed Kompany's interview but he said any signings are not PL planned. He wants players for the here and now, who are also happy to keep playing in the Championship next season if that's the case. Regarding PL, he's only 22 and by all accounts has a lot of potential, not sure why he should be disregarded as not good enough (even as a squad player).

I did miss Kompany’s interview because I was at the game and went out straight after. As I alluded to, I will trust Kompany but at the same time will offer my own view.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 8:49 amNot sure if you missed Kompany's interview but he said any signings are not PL planned. Re: January transfer window rumours.
Whatever Obafemi may or may not have done to be out of the Matchday squad recently for the Swans, getting him for reportedly £4-5m less than we offered for him in the summer is kind of great.
If he scores us 5-6 before the end of the season his championship stock will be high, so a resale if we go up and he doesn’t make the grade is always in the shadows so no worries with that. Couple that with his age and the influence of his coaches VK and Bellamy who had his own attitude during his career, they may well iron him out

If obafemi is to come in, the games he starts we would be a player down when defending our box, jay rod and barnes are important when defending corners

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Maybe it’s to give us a genuine 442 option instead? Barnes and Jay are too similar so never going to start together. Tella could play there but I think he’s more effective cutting in from the wing.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 9:35 amIf obafemi is to come in, the games he starts we would be a player down when defending our box, jay rod and barnes are important when defending corners

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Obafemi would provide an excellent sub option for 20 min much like Benson, but through the middle rather than side. Raw pace when chasing a win for that key period. I imagine that’s in VK’s thoughts.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Would expect our new centre half signed Friday to be starting in THB's absence, and he is both tall and strong aerially, making us better at defending corners. Whatever happens I would expect Barnes to be in the team for at least part of the game

Regarding Seelt, looks exciting, but very young to step into the Championship. I can't see him starting this season, I hope I'm wrong, but I also can't see what he would gain from playing for our U23s. If he is one for the future, we'd be stifling his development bringing him here, now.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Obafemi gives us pace and power up front
Barnes gives us Power, Jay gives us craft, Tella gives us pace but Obafemi would add an extra dimension
Course, it is completely unknown whether he'd be able to do it in the prem, but we have to get there first

Trouble is if he develops too much we won't be able to afford him. Re: January transfer window rumours.
Whatever Kompany says I've no doubt he'll be planning for the PL. That's what good management is about. It would have to be a catastrophic decline not to go up now. If Kompany wants Obafemi he will obviously be trusted by the supporters given his brilliant track record in the transfer market. In the absence of him signing it's reasonsble to debate the merits of Obafemi - I've only seen him a few times but looks limited, but Kompany may see him as a great fit for our system which is obviously a consideration rather that just taking a narrow view of the player's abilities, which is all I've done. The level of transfer fee would obviously be a factor too if it might be a third of what we'd have paid last summer.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 10:44 amObafemi gives us pace and power up front

Re: January transfer window rumours.
If we can get Obafemi for 3-4m that represents fantastic business, yes there's doubts about whether he can make the step up to the Prem, however we do still need to get there, and even if he doesn't make the grade at that level we'll be able to make a modest profit selling him back to a Championship club, or in the event of relegation he'll provide the goals to fire us back up.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Obafemi for the price rumoured is a great deal. There's a player there, and not so sure comments on his attitude are warranted. Taylor didn't want to play for Leeds when we were trying to sign him, Tarkowski for Brentford likewise.

I see Obafemi as a Gray type of player.
At 3m in this climate, that is excellent business. Definitely something different. I think we need that. I like the idea of Jay, Barnes and Obafemi to chose from. Plenty of options for different situations.

Obafemi didn’t really get many chances at Saints in the PL but did ok when he got the odd opportunity.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 10:58 amIf we can get Obafemi for 3-4m that represents fantastic business, yes there's doubts about whether he can make the step up to the Prem, however we do still need to get there, and even if he doesn't make the grade at that level we'll be able to make a modest profit selling him back to a Championship club, or in the event of relegation he'll provide the goals to fire us back up.
Pace is pace no matter what level of football you play at and he will add something that we haven’t had for a long time so when we go away to difficult venues we have someone who can run in behind, stretch the game, alleviate the pressure and also be a threat. This is one thing that was sadly lacking for our final few years in the PL.
Without getting too far ahead of ourselves and as others have said, we need a team for here and now to make sure we give ourselves the best chance of winning promotion. Then we can talk about what we might need going forward.

As you say £3m isn't much at all in grand scheme of things and if we can secure Obafemi at that price it feels sensible. Kompany will definitely have one eye on next season and recognise it's an area we need to strengthen two or three times over beforehand.JimmyRobbo wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 11:23 amI see Obafemi as a Gray type of player.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Read somewhere that whilst at Southampton Tella was one of the top 5 quickest players in the PL. If you look at the goal he scored recently where Charlie Taylor put him through and he ran from the half way line he had the speed to get himself fully infront of the defender and from there there was no chance of being caught. No other Burnley player would have had the speed and strength not to get stopped
