Yep cos football clubs fans forums after a defeat is a really good representation of what the fans really think. Have a look back at this forum after the Sheff Utd game and tell me what the Burnley fans thought of Muric, THB, Beyer and Maatsen.

A little too pessimistic for me.Spijed wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 10:53 pmGood strikers will want good wages though and unlike any other position in the team will be very difficult to get one that's gone under the radar.
Scoring goals tends to get you noticed and any player scoring at a good level will probably cost more than 15m in today's market.
Take Dodi Lukébakio. Full Belgian international. Can play wing or number 10. In the top 10 scorers in the Bundesliga with Berlin, valued at about £12m. Meant to be on about €50k per week. Not a number 9 striker but a good example of the calibre we may attract with Kompany as boss.
I take the point that a main striker tends to cost more, but there is value in these markets - and loads of talent. Look at Bayer, couldn’t even get in the team very often over there.
We can do better than Gyokeres, Kompany is the game changer, but I’d have him if £10m was the price. Not £15m+.
Re: Gyokeres
Tin hat firmly on … in this system … we have a better goal getter, he’s warming up for next year in Cheshire after a holiday in Turkey.
If Wout comes back, appreciate his departure was questionable at best , then I hope the fans back Vinny to stand by him. Everybody deserves a 2nd chance and we aren’t all born clarets believe it or not. For Wout it appears country came first.
However in the case that he comes back and bags a sackful . If that meant we didn’t need a forward and could use the money to turn some of these loans permanent … it would be a thank you and silver lining to the whole situation from me.
Just a thought …

Was there a possible penalty in that incident? From the top of the JMU (as far away from it as it is possible to be admittedly) it looked like Muric caught Gyokeres and he stumbled but stayed up before fluffing the chance.maccclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 11:11 pmI thought Beyer had him pretty much under control all afternoon; he never got a shot away
That he didn’t even manage a goalward poke from the 3 or 4 opportunities in his meander across the box after the back pass suggests he has a way to go before he will be comfortable in the Prem. Plus everything Coventry did going forward was about getting the ball to him, which he won’t get in the Prem.
His petulance with ref and teammates in the second half was reminiscent of Bendtner.
It’s a no from me.

Re: Gyokeres
Gyokeres is obviously a good player and would definitely improve our team, but is he worth north of £12m ?
In my opinion no.
I think VK could get better value elsewhere.
If A Pace wants to splash in excess of £12m for the player then that's fine but at this present time a gamble.

Re: Gyokeres
He played well, and he’s a decent player no doubt but to me he just smacks of yet another player like Andre Gray, Neil Maupay, Glenn Murray and a host of other strikers that look great at champ level but cannot output at anywhere near the same rate in the PL.
That’s fair enough and no slight on them, that’s the level of players we have to buy but what we know now is that there is definitely much more value to be had for the price they are asking.
Is Gyokeres going to be noticeably more value than Obafemi for the extra 10/12/15 million they want for him? Not on your life is he.

He’s by some distance their best player and it looked to me like they build their whole team and play around him.
Personally thought he was the best centre forward I have seen in the championship this season and that he also has the physique and strength to play in the Premier League.
He should have scored yesterday and probably should have taken his shot earlier than he did when he was through but his finishing in the rest of the season has looked excellent.

I was surprised by their opinion of him as he looks strong and direct- but he doesn’t seem to be highly thought of as a finisher. It seems Godden is the one they rate. Cashing him in for the money they want would help them strengthen their squad. Looks good enough to me but not for the money they’re wanting
Re: Gyokeres
Aside from Gyokeres, I thought Gustavo Hamer in centre mid was excellent yesterday for the most part. Some too long distance passing and all their good player went through him. Out of contract after next season so I wonder if VK might take a look in the summer (he’s specifically mentioned him in a couple of press conferences).

Re: Gyokeres
He did play well, however he also fluffed his big moment when it came, and if we splash £12-15m on Gyokeres then that means we'll have less to spend on other areas, CM for one where we will need at least one upgrade as Brownhill & Cork still don't convince me at Prem standard, and Cullen is untested at that level.BigGaz wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 11:59 amHe played well, and he’s a decent player no doubt but to me he just smacks of yet another player like Andre Gray, Neil Maupay, Glenn Murray and a host of other strikers that look great at champ level but cannot output at anywhere near the same rate in the PL.

If as reported we can snap Obafemi up cheaply then I'd rather we brought him in, and with Kompany's track record of scouting bargains in Europe I'm sure he'll produce a few more rabbits out of hats yet.
Re: Gyokeres
We will need more than one forward. If we go up and the right forward is available for £12m-£15m we should spend it. Goals are the hardest thing to come by in the PL.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 2:48 pmHe did play well, however he also fluffed his big moment when it came, and if we splash £12-15m on Gyokeres then that means we'll have less to spend on other areas, CM for one where we will need at least one upgrade as Brownhill & Cork still don't convince me at Prem standard, and Cullen is untested at that level.

Hope I’m wrong, but IMO Obafemi is not the answer. He just looks a big immobile lump, he was awful when we played Swansea at the Turf, reminds me of Akinfenwa at Wycombe. They’re having our pants down at £3m.

It’s probably best not to judge a player off one game.
As for a big immobile lump, he’s quite short and quite quick.

Reckon you’re thinking of a different player if big immobile lump is what springs to mind, he definitely isn’t that. Yeah, he had a stinker at the Turf, but it’s not like some of our players haven’t chucked in the odd one either.Claretitus wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 3:13 pmHope I’m wrong, but IMO Obafemi is not the answer. Watched him in the South Wales derby earlier this season and he looked dangerous and I think the goal he scored is a good indication of what VK thinks he can bring. Rapid run in behind the back line and finished well.

Re: Gyokeres
Watched the replay of the game and I don't think Gyokeres looked great. Not Premier League material and looked very lacklustre.
Re: Gyokeres
Because he has never been a striker from what I know, came from Brighton as a left winger, now turned into a centre forward but you can see the winger in his game.

Muric actually did well to realise that the back pass was short and decided to retreat, otherwise Gyokeres would have gone round him and slotted it into an empty net.

Re: Gyokeres
Yes, after a storming loan the season before which led to Berlin overpaying a bit, but my point was that he would cost about the same as Gyokeres, and is the calibre I think we could attract (or more to the point, Kompany could attract). I’m not saying we could get him or want him specifically, but if we threw the net out for players of that calibre, particularly Belgians, I bet we would get one or two, and they would be better than Gyokeres (who does have potential and may prove me wrong on this in years to come).
The prices Championship clubs are demanding is OTT. I’m actually amazed we may be getting Obafemi for only £3m. Maybe the big price buys have to wait for the summer.

Re: Gyokeres
Assuming Wout Weg will go ? - Gyokeres in the summer would be a near zero cost deal.
Personally (assuming we go up) - I'd be happy with either.
I'd be annoyed if the money again vanishes and we don't invest. Loans are patching up our squad right now. (very well)
...and our sales are paying for the owner loans...

Cov seem to be broke and in dire need of reinforcements, having a peruse of their forum, they are crying out for a squad. They are so short, I read that they had 2x keepers on the bench.
It would be an ideal time to sell VG, in order to get a few bodies in.
But thats mostly wishful thinking

I think we will sign either of the forwards we are linked with if we are serious about going up and stopping there and nothing would surprise me if we get both to replace the ones that we have and if we get a decent fee for Weghorst if we sell him.

Re: Gyokeres
when you look at the Bosnian lad we are linked with for 3-5 million he looks serious quality, no way we pay silly money to Coventry for Gyokeres when there will be way better value out there. We are trying to do a Brighton/Brentford and they (in the Championship) didn't spend silly money from memory and Brighton have made so incredible signings for fees that even Wigan could afford - our scouting network is seemingly unrecognizable to what it was a year ago, they've already brought in some gems.
