Obafemi didn’t really get many chances at Saints in the PL but did ok when he got the odd opportunity.

Pace is pace no matter what level of football you play at and he will add something that we haven’t had for a long time so when we go away to difficult venues we have someone who can run in behind, stretch the game, alleviate the pressure and also be a threat. This is one thing that was sadly lacking for our final few years in the PL.

Without getting too far ahead of ourselves and as others have said, we need a team for here and now to make sure we give ourselves the best chance of winning promotion. Then we can talk about what we might need going forward.

Agree with this. Not sure if we were ever willing to pay the muted £9-10m. If we were ever bidding at those levels, Swansea will be kicking themselves now.

I'd far rather have Obafemi at three or even four million than Gyokeres at 4 or 5 times that: I think he's better than either JayRod or Ash the bash, so with those two as backup we should be stronger and ensure promotion. Whether he can make it in the EPL is unknown, but the same can be said of Gyokeres and we know neither JR or AB are. What we do know is that he's fast and he would look even faster coming on after 70 minutes, so why spend £15 million on what's likely to next season be the man who comes off the bench to replace a tiring Weghorst? We could of course get really lucky and find Obafemi relegating Weghorst to the bench.

Being a Swansea player I would think Bellamy has followed his progress. Tella might also have given VK feedback as they were at Southampton at the same time. Just read it myself - Andy Jones article today titled "Burnley and Vincent Kompany still want a striker as promotion push powers on".

It says for that particular section, after talking about Obafemi:

"Burnley sources, who wish to remain anonymous to protect their identity, have indicated privately that they have a No 1 target in the position (striker) who they are excited about, watch this space".

Bit harsh on Twine/Churlinov given they’ve been injured for most of the season. Bastien has been a good squad option. The others seem more medium term than short.

Applies particularly to Twine who has managed around 30 minutes all season, McNally who had a good game v Bournemouth but kept out by Charlie Taylor on Saturday, and Egan Riley. I fear that Bastian and Churlinov may not prove to be first team material and in Bastians case he has had chances to impress but Churlinov only started one league games. I know it's a novelty to us but it's called 'having a squad'... When you have a decent-sized squad, you are always going to have 4 or 5 players disappointed with the amount of game time they get, even with players that are talented and would walk into most teams in the Championship...

Two of those players have also been injured for most of the season... Having a few players from a large and competitive squad not getting into the team is of absolutely no detriment to the manager and his eye for a player...

If it becomes a habit over time and we end up having to sell these types of players consistently at a loss, then that's a different story!

Not at all, aren't there three Premier League clubs supposedly made offers for him? Nixon linked us with him a few weeks ago but I've not picked anything up on that since although Coventry have said he's going nowhere. I was impressed with him on Saturday.

I am not writing anyone off, at all, but how are they going to break into this side short of a spate of injuries as if we go up (I will still say 'if'...) we will most likely be looking at an even higher profile player, which makes their pathway even harder.

To put another way, if we sign (as expected) a striker this window - at least one - then Twine will probably drop off the bench at that point. A bench Churlinov wasn't even able to get on the other day. It's nothing they've done wrong whatsoever, it's a circumstance based on their injuries and the form of the rest of the side in their absence. I dearly hope they get an opportunity to impress and thoroughly take it, as (particularly with Twine) I am very excited to see these two players. Twine has had a few setbacks even now he's fit, he came on against Boro and we went down to ten men and he was also getting brutalised, so he got subbed off. Against Coventry he was stripped and about to come on then Beyer scored. These little things cannot be helped, and are not his fault. Bastien is a different one as he is 27 this year, and was probably recruited as a rotational/backup option to begin with. He has done fine in this role overall.

Should we go up however, the bench grows to 9 in that league, which might be where the likes of Twine and Churlinov are still able to be involved. I think the likes of McNally and Egan-Riley perhaps do need loan moves though following the arrival of Al-Dakhil (And possible signing of Seelt from PSV). Let the lads get games.

I don't think any of VKs signings could be classed as a failure, for the reasons stated above. Some have just had players ahead of them who are performing exceptionally well. If we were at the other end of the league I'm sure we'd see a lot more rotation than what we have done. As it is, the side is virtually picking itself - you don't change a winning team. The fact that Tella hasn't been getting starts just shows the levels we're at currently.

Bastien might well be impressing like mad in training, but it wouldn't matter if Cork, Brownhill and Cullen are also impressing for instance

He needed to develop a squad and only 11 players can start.
Given the turnover in players and what we are seeing in front of our very eyes every week at this stage I would describe VK as an incredible judge of players.
Twine has picked up several injuries and that is just bad luck. And I think on this one VK and his team did not have to do much work based on Twine being the best player in division one last season and scoring and assisting a shed load of goals. The other ones cost very little and as said we needed a squad of players and cover in all positions.
Egan-Riley can cover 3 positions at least
Bastien looks decent to me and he cost virtually nothing.
McNally is young. He’s done fine when he’s played. Again we need 4 players at least who can play centre back.
Churlinov - again cover for the wide positions and could play down middle too.

So for me all these show more than good judgement of squad players who can cover multiple positions and most still have room to develop and potentially break into the team or cover injuries, suspensions etc.

But the ‘incredible’ judge description is definitely appropriate when it comes to THB, Zaroury, Benson, Beyer, Cullen, Maatsen, Tella etc.
If you can recall a more incredible set of signings in effectively one single transfer window in the history of this club then please let me know.
