Rovers - genuine question
Would you rather them sneaking up via the playoffs to play them - and hopefully pummelling them - twice on a much bigger stage or stay down?
I would, of course, have picked the latter at any point in the last 47 years of supporting Burnley but part of me would like to me back up there next term with our main rivals in a dog fight with us.
I'd be interested to hear your views and hopefully not piles of abuse for ruminating a scenario with those idiots as a PL club!

The longer they stay down, the bigger their financial woes will become.
Not sure why anyone would want to see them promoted...

I’d hate for them to go up.
The longer they stay where they are the bigger the gap between us becomes.

Stay down without a doubt.
Although seeing them promoted and then the Venkys taking the money and running would be funny.

I wouldn't want to see them go bust though, as much as we have a rivalry, football means just as much to someone supporting them as it does to you or me supporting Burnley.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 3:54 pmThe longer they stay down, the bigger their financial woes will become.

Football League mediocrity will do.

I'm still hopeful they will be drawn into the relegation battle; and lose it.

Stay down. Don’t want them anywhere near Premier League money for a good while yet. The way they lorded their money over us for 20 years they can suffer for another decade yet!

Re: Rovers - genuine question
No question - down. Ideally Rovers would be in League Two, narrowly avoiding relegation every season with just enough hope for the next season until their dreams of rising out of the bottom tier are crushed again by Christmas as they realise it'll be another toil in the bottom league. There are buckets for donations before and after every home game - which is played at Darwen's ground. Ewood is now a carpark and finally at full capacity.

Re: Rovers - genuine question
As much as it's good to stuff them again.
The bad points are
If they got promoted their owners have far more money than us if they wanted to have a real go at it.
We have been picking up the casual fans in the mixed towns for the last few years. That could change.
With a better academy and premier league football we wouldn't be able to compete with them at all on attracting youth.

They need to stay down.
Brereton-Diaz leaving on a free, what will next season hold with such a poor squad and no real goalscorer?

Re: Rovers - genuine question
Definitely go up. If I’m answering the question directly.
For me, there is no point in a rivalry if you never play them. Derby days are the best. The build up, the anticipation, the atmosphere and then when you wallop the b’tards it’s the best feeling.
So long as we always win and finish above them, I’d always favour being in the same division.

I have a different take on this. Derby's are much more feisty if there's been a long period of separation.
I wouldn't want to play them twice every season. It's better when it's year's apart. Otherwise it just feels like a yearly process.
Fans from Manchester, London and Liverpool don't get that.

There was one of them at Stevenage v Orient today. I told him his shirt offended me and he needed to get out and not come back! Good hearted banter of course although he muttered something about Dingles as I walked away!

Down.
Then down again to the 4th tier until a fateful day on 9th May 2027. The scenario is such that they have to beat Orient at home on the last day to stay up or face oblivion whist Darwen Utd take over.
And they bloody lose. 2-1
