January transfer window rumours.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm already incredibly pleased with our dealings in this transfer window. Any more incomings are a bonus.

It’s a pretty radical change to previous January windows. Imagine the plaudits of the last two windows if the chairman was born in Burnley!

Not that I doubt the sources, but I found it odd that Foster played tonight if a deal has been agreed. It seemed a little risky

That is very strange that he played today.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Really disappointed that we have done business in what is generally considered an over-priced January window. More importantly, it also adds weight to the argument that we bought the league. I've not even heard of these players.

Sorry, I know it was childish - just a bit giddy about our window. It makes total sense to be recruiting in this window for a few reasons. We have a lot of loanees and the uncertainty that goes with that. We probably aren't paying the full PL tax/premium that selling clubs look to extract. It also gives us time to assimilate young players that will be facing enough of a test (hopefully) in the PL without having to get used to a new country and framework. Finally, we are, arguably, at peak attractiveness for new signings: come join the promotion effort and get your reward of playing in the highest profile league in the world.
It's pleasing to see forward planning and I am excited to see the new players when we need them. Twine's contribution last night was a good reminder though of how difficult it is to break into this side.

Other news.
Everton bid £15m for Ndiaye of SheffU. Might not stop their promotion push but would certainly aid our title push, especially as they are under transfer embargo.
I suspect they’ll hold on to him.

Sheff Utd would have to be crazy to let him go at this stage

Looks like we have agreed to pay the €10m wanted by Westerlo.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m over the moon with how the season has gone, but until that debt is repaid to the club (and even after that) it’ll always leave a bitter taste. That’s not to say I’m completely blinkered in my view. The change in transfer policy and speed at which we appear to be closing deals is really impressive.
Pace must be thanking his lucky stars he managed to bag VK and his team. But that only counts as his second best deal he’s made here. The first was getting a premier league club for £15m.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Sad Foster's going, I hope we (Westerlo) can get a replacement in, loan or buy, although I suspect we'll concede our battle for Europe and reinvest in summer. I'll still check in on here from time to time to see how he's getting along, if you'll have me
Another short interview with our manager:
"Westerlo got a point in their game away at Zulte-Waregem, thanks to an assist from Lyle Foster, who still played the match.
Vincent Kompant wants to bring Foster to Burnley, and a deal is close or possibly already done.
A €7+3m bid? Even Westerlo can't refuse that. "At that moment, we as Westerlo ARE a small club." manager De Roeck states.
"He hasn't said his goodbyes in the dressing room, no. If he and the club stand to gain from it, we can't stop him.
If the deal is done, it's a sign we signed someone with incredible quality and talent, and helped him improve so that others would spend big money on him. I know the chance is very real that he'll leave soon."
GVA
Lyle Foster gets his way, and Westerlo the jackbot. The South African striker moves to Burnley, who will pay around €7m with €3m in bonuses for him.
Vincent Kompany's club has been interested in Foster's services for a while now, but Westerlo wanted to get the most out of it.
The paperwork still needs to be finished, but now that the aforementioned money has been offered, he will have played his last match on Belgian soil last night. Only the medicals could still prevent a signing.
Foster declined to comment after the match, but after the bus ride back to Westerlo he confirmed the transfer to his teammated and personally thanked them for the nice period in 't Kuipje.
Foster was a Westerlo player since july 2021 and will become their record sale.

He’s 25 at the end of this season. They want around 20m for him.
This isn’t a player that’s going to be worth 40m ever. He’s a good player but I’m not sure he’s anywhere near as good as recent strikers that have stepped up and been successful. (Mitrovic, Wood, Watkins, Ings, Toney)

If we could get a CM in as well, then we'd have a hell of a squad and that should be more than enough to get us both over the line and have a decentish squad to start the summer transfer window as well

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Not entirely sure we need a CM now tbh. Brownhill and Bastien are more than adequate at this level. Brownhill dropping back (if needed) also allows more game time for Twine, who surely we need to be developing in time for the Prem.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 8:39 amIf we could get a CM in as well, then we'd have a hell of a squad and that should be more than enough to get us both over the line and have a decentish squad to start the summer transfer window as well

For us to make a profit on Gykores he would have to hit mid double figures for at least two seasons. This is something he is just managing at championship level.

Obviously it would be on the same sort of idea that we've signed the CH and ST this window, get them used to us and some game time for next season
We are going to have to do a big job in the summer anyway, and if we have the funds, and we have the target, would make sense to get them in now

That’s your opinion but I think you’re way off the mark, mitrovic has got to the age of 28 before proving his worth in the premier league so you have contradicted your own opinion there, wood was sold for 25mil at 30.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 8:22 amI just don’t agree.

Gyokeres will not cost 20 plus on the summer it will be 20 at most with a year left on his contract, especially at a club with no money

Don’t forget, if the model is working, we don’t need to profit on every player, you will require a few to stay longer term. A certain level of continuity will be important too. Thinking of th3 likes of Cullen here.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
There’s absolutely no chance anyone is paying 20m for him either. 12 months left on his contract in the summer, Cov need to cash in early in the summer and rebuild their poor squad. I’d definitely take him for between 10-15m.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I think that’s the issue when discussing Gyokeres… the £20m gets bandied around like it’s set in stone and he’s worth nowhere near that much. £10m yes, maybe £15m to a desperate Prem club in Jan, never £20m.
Personally I hope we stay away from these inflated Champ players and keep looking to Europe.
