Players we sold in the last few windows

Post by Ric_C » Sat Jan 21, 2023 10:59 pm

Thought it would be interesting to see how they are all doing based on the TV over the season and fans reactions on twitter

Pope - 10 million. we knew it was a steal at the time. Is playing phenomenology and is even closer to playing for England

Mee - Looks a great free transfer for a Brentford side comfortably in the top 10. Fans love him

Tarkowski - fans are turning on him, saying he's no better than Keane and can't play in a three or with Coady in a two

McNeil - 20 million - Done nothing of note for Everton. Fans hate him and there are rumours he wants out

Wood -25 million - Newcastle fans think he's rubbish. Got bad reviews off Forest fans today.

Collins - 20 million - Mixed reviews from Wolves fans. Still raw and has a mistake in him

Cornet -17 million - Done ok but has been injured for most of the season (bit like with us)

Long - Been disastrous in his first few games for Brum apparently

So a few things to come out of this. I think we got good money for a lot of these players, and choosing the right club is very important 🙂

Oooof, £92m in incomings from a team that if last season's performances are the measure, would probably lose to this current one. We've done alright there, I reckon.

Basing that statement in part off the FA cup win against Bournemouth, which I think is a useful indicator of how this team might hypothetically stack up against last season's.

When you look at it now,it’s been incredibly good business. Was worried at the time about losing so many of our ‘big’ players.

Can’t argue with any of the OP but feel for Tarks. Watched all of todays match and he was left of a back 3 first half, spent most of that as a LB and was a duck out of water.
Totally wasted on that side, in that team.

Especially when you look at Mee and how well Brentford are doing. There's a cigarette paper between Mee and Tarkowski in terms of ability.

To just think JT was hailed by some last season as the answer to evertons woes, SD got the best out of him & it worked but elsewhere massively overrated I think he contributed to bowens goal today & others where he's been completely anonymous, mee & JT complimented each other so well.

Tarks, and Keane before him, is suffering from having a clueless manager at Everton, with a poorly set up team that's now devoid of confidence.

Sticking him on the left of a back 3 is just plain stupid.

Everton are going down with Lampard in charge, he's well out of his depth

Moshiri attends his first Everton game since 2021, leaves the ground without speaking to Lampard, and when asked in the car park after the game if Lampard will be sacked, responds with the words, "not my decision," implying it's a board decision, and then it's reported a board meeting is to be convened.

Safe to say, Lampard is done.

Unlike Keane, at the start of the season, Everton fans were crediting him (and Coady) with being the foundation upon which they could rebuild their Premier League status. Keane was getting pelters from day one.

The club is rotten and it's rotting from the head - the fans aren't turning on Lampard by and large, they're going after the board which includes club legend Graeme Sharp! As it stands, they look doomed.

Even Keane won them round for a while after a very dodgy start and Tarko was getting rave reviews from most of the Evertonians I know earlier this season.

I think you have to ask questions about the coaching at Everton. Keane and Tarko were both highly capable players when we sold them - Everton seem to have ruined them somehow.

Yeah I know what you're saying - there was no way Keane was going to be able to slot straight into a back 3 that were expected to play a high line and then on today's evidence, they're hanging Tarky out to dry too. But then Everton are a bizarre experiment. They've had managers that are either World Class or Best in Class (Ancelotti, Koeman, Benitez) and players that are World Class or apparently Best in Class (James, Richarlison, Digne) and home grown talent (Gordon, Davies) and legends on the board (Sharp) yet they appear to have completely and utterly fornicated any route they have gone down, to the extent that they are arguably worse now than they have been at any point in their top flight tenure!

Very different players for me. Tarkowski has much more ability on the ball. Mee is more of a ‘they shall not pass’ kind of defender. Of the two, only Tarkowski could play in our current side.

I agree….he doesn’t know what he’s doing.
I watched a bit of their game today, he stands on the sidelines mumbling and making vague gestures with his hands. Meaningless.

I was impressed by McNeill's tracking back yesterday. How many times did he put in a telling tackle virtially as the last man?

We will owe some of that £95 million to the selling clubs-Collins Cornet and maybe Wood

Collins could yet improve at Wolves, and Mee and Pope choose wisely, as for the rest none are exactly pulling up trees at their new clubs are they.

Missed Pieters & Lowton off that list.

Pieters doing well at WBA, hudds seem to be picking up the odd point lately.

Did any of them have choices when they left? My understanding is the clubs they are at now were the only clubs who had any real firm interest in them, apart from JT as a free agent & more sought after than mee could have probably brokered a deal elsewhere from everton but the package on offer was the best he was going to get. Choices didn't really exist.

Yeah good point. Both very good pros, but in hindsight, we were paying relatively large wages to players at the end of their careers.

Also Lennon retired and Bardsley went to Stockport (fair play to him)

As for Dale Stephens, not actually sure where he went?

They're actually suffering more because they haven't got Ben Mee beside them to cover, cajole and direct them through their matches

It's nice to think the money we got for Wood paid for this and the summer's Transfer window, thanks Newcastle 😂 for helping to build this fantastic young squad

I watched the full match and what was stranger to me was Lampard selected Mykolenko and Gray left side but both played so far forward Tarks was isolated. He was badly at fault for the first, diving in when it was easier to see him down the line , and then his confidence dipped.

And maybe also suffering from not playing in a Dyche system and playing alongside Ben Mee

Went from where; here? I didn't realise that Stephens had ever actually arrived; I just assumed he was doing the working from home thing even before Covid made it popular.
