Re: He's Unbelievable
He’s a tit.
Forget about his footballing ability and the debates that surround that. His ‘big character’ that people bang on about just means he’s a complete pr**k.

Re: He's Unbelievable
Translated from Turkish and taken out of context. Perhaps the wrong bit of 'train...' was used in the translation and he actually meant that he wasn't satisfied with the railways?

Written by a no doubt aggrieved Besiktas fan page, unsourced, translated and out of context. Happy to hold my counsel on this one.
Re: He's Unbelievable
Another misunderstanding, I'm sure.
Re: He's Unbelievable
This was the quote I saw.
He’s just very outspoken isn’t he.

Re: He's Unbelievable
Are his comments much different than Maatsen saying that everything is more professional at Burnley than Coventry? Those comments didn’t seem to attract any criticism on here.
Re: He's Unbelievable
He maybe ultra professional, but he has shades of Ronaldo about him (and I don't mean his ability), in which he makes everything about him at whatever cost.

From the outside looking in I can't see Kompany wanting him. He'd be a headache.

Re: He's Unbelievable
Just playing devil’s advocate for a bit because it’s a lazy Sunday, but is such a driven personality always a bad thing? Maybe explains why the Dutch have punched above their weight in terms of footballing talent? I dunno. WW is clearly a bit haughty but ten Hag is clearly not one to suffer fools and happily took him on. Quote above appears to have changed too and could be interpreted in a few ways. Anyway I’m ambivalent about it - he’s probably leaving, we’ll hopefully get a good fee but if VK wants to keep him, happy with that too.

It's quite humorous how he upsets people sometimes you need to rise above & take the adult stance.
Re: He's Unbelievable
These are the Maatsen quotes
"This club has just come back from the Premier League, of course. Everything is a bit more professional. You notice that everyone is focused on a return to the highest level."
The Weghorst ones are available to view on this thread.
One player has no doubt insulted their previous club and the other has managed to say something informative without being insulting.
If you want to argue they're the same, fine. I don't and won't agree. I'm happy to leave it there.

Re: He's Unbelievable
I’m not saying they’re the same, I just can’t really see why one would attract criticism and not the other. I don’t think Coventry fans took too kindly to Maatsen’s comments. I also don’t see what Weghorst has said that is insulting to his former club.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 11:47 amThese are the Maatsen quotes

Re: He's Unbelievable
It reads to me like he was texting his agent about having a bad day in training, not that training is rubbish. It just so happens that while exchanging messages, the ManU offer came through.

Re: He's Unbelievable
Don't see anything wrong with this quote to be honest.
Seems like a lot of people looking for any opportunity to bring his character into question. Not saying he's an angel, but this is scraping the barrel a bit. If anything he's telling it like it is rather than pandering the feelings of anyone. Clearly the Besiktas tweet has taken what he said out of context (if we believe the original quote).
Besiktas are hardly the epitome of honesty and sportsmanship...
All this of course doesn't mean you have to like him.

Laurie Lee speaks about his encounters with some students in Amsterdam who were fluent in five languages as learning English too quickly so they are likely to drop a few verbal bllks as a result.
Who wouldn’t tell the story of having an off day at training, freezing cold, kebab for tea - again- and then your agent rings you to say MAN UTD want to sign you.
I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Stories about his attitude at Wolfsburg
Stories about leaving Burnley
Stories about the move from Besiktas
There’s a bit of a theme. Why not just keep your gob shut or be respectful to where you’ve just been handsomely paid. Not that difficult I wouldn’t think, unless you are on an ego trip.

Re: He's Unbelievable
The fact he's played for 4 clubs in under a year should tell you something...
Re: He's Unbelievable
Imagine if he, as (technically still) one of our center forwards, got convicted for drink driving?
Re: He's Unbelievable
Taken in isolation these comments they might not garner any interest, coupled with other comments and story's from other clubs it does start to build a picture up of him. As Keith Lard would say, no smoke without fire.

Got to be something going on behind the scenes.
Good enough to play for Holland, one of the better sides in world football, at a World Cup.
Good enough to start for Man U
But we don't want him at Burnley.
Something is wrotten somewhere

He wants better training sessions. He sees ways his Burnley team mates can give him better service. I’d say he’s neither arrogant, nor outspoken, he just wants to be at the top of his game

Re: He's Unbelievable
The Dutch are historically famous for their bluntness which often, like the Germans, is taken as arrogance. Bit like Burnley folk, say it as tha sees it!
And, let's not forget the English are accused worldwide of being "Arrogant" as, apparently, being the best shouldn't mean you have to believe it.
